CHAPTER 8: Another Peaceful Day
3 months go by, and Zia was still the boss of the slums.
The other 5 children kept everything under check, even expanding their information network to other kingdoms.
Zia has instructed the general to not do anything rash.
In order for her to know the future, she can't allow any deviation to the world's plot.
That means preventing the whole fiasco in the first place is not on her list of priority.
What she'll need to do, is have a sure fire way of saving the doctor from that situation.
He'll be accused of poisoning the King.
If the future empress tries to save him, she'll only be dragged down.
Therefore the general and her have made a plan.
He'll be slowly replacing the palace guards with his own guards. To help keep watch of the imperial palace.
Then when the doctor is finally accused of treason, they'll reveal the real culprit, effectively clearing his name.
It's the perfect plan!
Zia was relaxing when suddenly Drew storms into her room. "Zia, Zia, come Quick!"
Zia immediately notices his alarm. "What's wrong? What's happened?"
She shoots off her seat like a rocket.
Drew races out of the room, leading her along the hallways. "It's something big! We're all in trouble!!"
Drew stops in front of double doors. Zia knew that behind these doors was the courtyard.
Drew gestures for her to go first.
Despite the lack of information, Zia was confident in her abilities.
Whatever problem it is, she knew she could handle it.
Without even bating an eye, Zia pushes the doors open.
However, what she saw wasn't what she was expecting.
"Surprise!!!"
The other 5 children leap at her, giving her a bone crushing hug.
"Congratulations Zia, this day two years ago is when we all met you!" They grin at her.
The Overseer was flabbergasted. If she didn't recognize their voices in time, she could've almost killed them!
Drew comes up from behind her, giving her a friendly tap. "Come on, what are you waiting for? We have cake!"
The twins scream in delight as they race towards the table with food. "Quick, Quick Zia! Make a wish so we can eat!!"
They looked at her with sparkling eyes.
The Overseer was startled by what was happening.
A celebration?
For her!?
She felt all strange inside.
Noah smiles at her troubled expression. "Look, she's so touched that she doesn't know what to say!" He laughs at her expense.
Ava smile gently, as she guides Zia to the table. "Come on Zia, it's not so surprising, is it? Afterall, we all decided to start celebrating these things last year. The only difference is that now we are surrounded by food!"
Drew grins. "Right? I still have what you gave me!" He shows off the elastic beaded bracelet around his wrist.
Zia nods mechanically. She didn't know how to feel about this.
Afterall, the Overseer is not Zia.
She never met them two years ago, or went through the hardships they have all together.
She never has celebrated this strange event like they say.
Still, she didn't care.
She's selfish.
So she'll enjoy this moment happily on her own.
"Come on make a wish!!" The twins whine.
Zia claps excitedly. "Okay!" She grins. "I wish for us all to have our goals achieved. I wish for myself, to never be bored again!"
The kids laugh and cheer as they begin to cut the cake.
Zia has never tasted something so delicious.
It was fluffy, beautiful to look at, and tangy on the tongue.
She was in love.
The kids then began to hand her their presents.
Zia was confused, however she did as told and opened each one.
Noah gave her some new clothes. "It's practical and stylish. Wear them well." He grins.
Zia nods smilingly putting them aside.
The twins had given her their favourite superhero doll. "Here, you can have this! We're growing up now, so we don't play with dolls anymore." They puff out their chests with pride, trying to look bigger than what they were.
Zia holds the action figure affectionately. Looking at the wear and tear, she can tell they treasured this alot.
Ava smiles politely as she hands over her gift.
It was a book, about how to behave like a lady. Ava grins. "I'm not saying you're unruly... but that's exactly what I'm saying." She gives everyone a cheeky smile.
Who knew the quiet Ava had it in her!
The Overseer smiles deeply. She already knows the correct mannerisms for a noble lady. However she was a street rat, thus she must act as such. Still, Zia gives Ava her thanks.
Lastly it was Drew's turn. "Open it, Open it!!" His eyes shine with excitement.
The Overseer was curious, just what exactly could his gift be?
She unwraps it, only to reveal a bracelet.
He grins. "This is a very expensive bracelet! See the shells on its exterior? They are called sea shells, and come from the beach. They smell like the beach as well."
The twins were curious and stood on their tippy toes to sniff it. "Wow, he's right!! It smells salty!" They look at the gift with awe.
Drew laughs. "Right? Hey, after everything is settled down, let's all go traveling, just the 6 of us. We can visit places we've never seen before, like the beach, or-or the mountains!"
Everyone grins, imagining what those places would be like. Fantasizing about the future together.
It was a heart warming scene. Everyone spoke so much that the sun was even setting, basking them all with a warm orange glow.
It was as if they were in their own world. Their own bubble. Where they could freely speak their minds and connect their hearts without any worries.
Just as Zia thought it was the end of another peaceful day, there was a ruckus at the front gates.
"Miss Zia, is there a Miss Zia over here!?" A man wearing a panicked expression shouts at them from afar.
Zia frowns as she slowly stands up. His clothing immediately let her know who he was.
The gates were opened allowing the panicked visitor in. "Miss Zia, the general has sent me. He says it's an emergency!! The doctor is in trouble!"
Zia frowns.
So soon!??
A cold breeze blows past everyone howling like the wolves.
The children shivered. "Zia, it seems important. You should go." They egg on.
Zia nods. "Okay I'll see you guys later then. Oh, and thank you for today. It was fun!" Zia grins before hurrying on the carriage the knight had brought with him.
The kids were frozen by her smile. It was so genuine, so beautiful, they all felt happy that they celebrated.
It was truly worth it.
Zia sighs.
It seems that tonight she'll have to play hero.
At least she's prepared everything with the general.
Things shouldn't go astray if she plays her cards right.
