Yelling and Step-father

Steven's P.O.V

"Yeah, we've gotta talk to you both too", her dad told Asher and me in a serious tone. We both looked at each other and we hesitantly came out and followed Jen to her home.

"JENNY!" a high pitched baby voice came and I looked at the small figure that approaches Jen and crashes her into a hug that made her back hit the ground. Everyone chuckled and I couldn't help but smile at their affectionate bond.

This is the first time I saw her smile, real smile in the entire day.

"I'll just go and change, make yourself comfortable people", she told us before she left and Asher and I, we sat down on the sofa.

"Sorry for today's commotion," he dad told us, "and sorry if she even behaved weirdly after the incident, today is a rough day for her and also, thanks for whatever you did today".

"He's back, can't you see those blue eyes and that hazel hair, the same looks, dad, he is really back", Max told pointing in my direction.

Do I know him?

Just then Jen came down wearing something comfortable.

"Jenny, you tell dad, tell him that he is back, can't you also see it?" he asked her. She just looked at him with a small smile and told

"Baby, his name is Steven, it's not him, he isn't coming back to us", she told him in a sad tone. He came towards me and just sat on my lap playing with my hands.

"Jen, can we talk?" he father asked her and she nodded and they went inside the kitchen with Roth's mom too, because the house wasn't soundproof and maybe they were talking loudly, I could hear them talk.

"They don't know? Do they?" I heard the voice who was apparently her dad.

"Nope, they don't and I don't even plan on telling them", she says and just when I look up from my lap I catch Roth looking at us both in horror.

They talk for a while and I don't pay much attention to it because I respect their privacy. I just look around the house, their house isn't as big as mine but it a comfortable. There are some pictures of the three of them and there are some just like the ones on her phone covers.

A smile plays on my lips as I look at those pictures. She wears a smile on her face, a really genuine smile and it really suits her.

"BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THEM TO DIE", Jen yells and suddenly I hear sobbing, I had this urge to go to her and Roth rushes to the kitchen too. Asher looks at me.

They come back after some time and I see that both Roth and Jen have red puffy eyes but they smile when they look at something or rather someone in my lap. I follow their gaze too and look at Max already sleeping in my lap.

"He really likes you", both Roth and Jen say at the same time.

"Jen, help Steven take Max to his bed please", and with that, I pick him up and follow Jen upstairs. While going up, I do notice that there are pictures of Jen and a lady who would apparently be her mother because of the similar looks.

I place him in the bed and Jen tucks him in his bedsheets and places a kiss on his forehead. She really cares for him.

"Who was he talking about?" I ask her.

"Just someone who looked like you, when I saw you for the first time too, I thought you were him too", she tells me, and with that, we leave the room.

"Jen, you have an appointment day after tomorrow, and before you argue, I won't be listening to you at all, I know things will get worse now", her dad says as we come down. I look between them, really confused about what they are talking about.

"So, I assume you would be having a lot of questions Steven and Asher", he asks us. We both look at each other and I just keep quiet.

"Come on, it's not like you won't have any questions", this time Roth's mom tells us.

"Umm... I just... wanted to ask who Corey is if he is your dad?" I ask and they all look at Jen and she just smiles.

"So, basically, he is my step-father, and Corey is my biological father, well Corey just doesn't deserve to be called as my father and dad here, has done a lot of things for me so I gave him the title of being my father", she told us with a smile. So that means she lives with her step-father. So is Max her step-brother too?

"And no, Max is not my step-brother," she continued.

I looked at the grandma clock that was there on their wall and it showed that the time was 6:45.

"You both can wait for dinner, today Julie and I were preparing something special for Jen and Roth, the more the merrier", her dad told and so we went and sat in the living room whilst they prepared food for us.

"So, what was your dad talking about, I mean the appointment", Asher asks her. She looks at Roth and they look at each other as if communicating with their eyes.

"Nothing that important", Roth answers for her in a tone that clearly indicates that they don't want to talk any further about that topic. After that, we went onto Netflix and then started watching some movie that Roth had picked for us, but Jen had gone to her room for some reason and so it was only the three of us watching the movie.

The next hour had been really boring because I was the least interested in the movie that was being played and my mind kept wandering back to Jen. Why was she in her room? Why wasn't she with us?

"You know, you can go to her room as I can clearly see that you keep looking at the stairs", Roth tells me and I turn my head towards her with a sheepish smile on my face.

"Yeah bro, you could definitely go there in her bedroom but no funny business", Asher tells me. He did not just say that.

"Oh really, well guess what lovebirds, if you both wanted privacy you could have just asked me, why make excuses", I fire back with a smirk on my face and Roth blushes while Asher just scratches the back of his neck.

Ha! Take that Asher. In your face.

With that being said, Roth excuses herself informing us that she is going to check on Jen while we all know the reason was because of my earlier statement.

"I was finally getting to spend some time with her other than school and you couldn't keep that mouth of your shut huh?" Asher tells me in an annoyed tone making me chuckle. Damn, someone's whipped already.
