11:57, Nadia: Jane, please give me a chance to explain. Nate is not to blame, AT ALL.

Jane sighed as she read the text and decided to hear them out just this once. It has been three weeks now and they still bother her. Surely they must feel terrible about themselves since they've been texting her nonstop. She looked at her phone when it brightened up with a call from Nate. She let it ring until it got cut to her voicemail. She knew that if she listened to his voice she'd be putty in his hands.

12:00, Boo-Boo: please pick up. I can't go on like this any longer.

12:00, Boo-Boo: I'll do whatever you need and want me to in order for us to work this out

12:00, Boo-Boo: I love you.

12:01, Boo-Boo: And I don't want to lose you.

12:06, Nadia: you're still a backstabber. I cannot believe you'd go behind my back and do that. I hate you.

She quickly send the message to Nadia before opening Nate's chat to type in a quick reply. She decided to change his contact name as well.

12:10, Nate: You think sleeping with my friend is something we can work out? You've really done a number on us, Nathaniel. Have a good life with that tramp.

12:11, Nate: Don't call her that. She has nothing to do with this. This is between you and me.

12:13, Nadia: I wish I could say I'm sorry but I know you don't want to hear that. I cannot bring myself to tell you how terrible I feel.

12:14, Nate: Ha! Defending the whore, I see. What did you even see in her?

12:14, Nate: Loyalty.

Her heart stopped beating. She stared at the text and felt like she couldn't breathe anymore. How dare he call her disloyal when all she has been was be the best girlfriend she could have been to him?

12:15, Nate: Shit! I didn't send that, Brian did.

She frowned even more upon reading that. If Brian has Nate's phone that must mean that they're together. Could Nate perhaps be doing this only because Brian forced him to? Doesn't he want her back?

12:16, Nate: wow, using your younger brother to apologise on your behalf?

12:16, Nadia: it's sad that you always want what I have. You can't seem to be content with your own life so you choose to live mine instead. Pathetic.

12:16, Nate: don't be dumb. He obviously took my phone while I was busy with something else.

12:17, Nate: I can't tell if these are even your own words. Or if this crappy excuse of an apology is even real.

12:17, Nate: whatever, man.

"Really?" She asked as she stared at the screen hoping he'll send another one saying it was his brother again. The feeling of rejection weighed over her shoulders and she blinked back tears. She just wanted to see how far she could push him. She wanted to know how far he'd be willing to fight for her. Wasn't she worth his time?

She clicked on Nadia's one and saw that she had read but didn't reply to her. She clicked it off and tossed it on the table, putting her sunglasses on so that no passerby will see just how red her eyes could be.

She was lost in her thoughts when a figure stood in front of her. She didn't have to open her eyes to see who it was. There was only one person with enough guts to walk up on the rooftop and disturb her peace.

"It's about time we had a little chat," Nadia said as she took a sit, removing her sunglasses and folding them inside her handbag. Jane just sipped on her drink and waited for Nadia to continue.

When she didn't, she reluctantly started, "What's left to say?"

"Apart from the fact that you're being stupid, no, nothing else."

"You're one to speak. Did he send you?" Jane asked with a little ray of hope in her tone.

"No," Nadia said with a scowl on her face, "I came on my own accord."

"I don't have all day," Jane said with a shrug. It infuriated her to see her ex best friend sitting across from her as if nothing had happened. As if their friendship of over ten years didn't end over a guy.

"Do you realise how badly he's hurting right now?" Nadia snapped.

Jane just gave a nonchalant shrug. "I wasn't the one who got caught cheating."

"But you drove him into doing that. Did you ever for once in your pathetic life make him feel appreciated? He never felt worthwhile when around you. You treated him like some shit beneath your shoe."

"Oh please, I gave that guy everything I could. I was the best I could be."

"Constant sex does not save a relationship."

"We don't need saving, we worked things out the way I always-'

"And that's exactly the reason why he turned to me! It's always your way or the highway! You want all his time and attention and yet you're never there for him. Never giving him the time of your day. So consequently, when I offer him a listening ear, what do you expect to happen?"

"Excuse me darling, but last time I checked, I was the one that cancelled my job offers from other countries to stay here with him! Isnt that me giving him more than enough time? I am the one who has to put up with a stressful job just so I'm close to him in the name of love! Unlike you, I actually know how to juggle my work and a man. One more thing, I'm not going to sit around waiting for a man to put food on my table," she lashed out. "If my sacrifices don't make him happy then it's about time we reevaluate our expectations from this so-called relationship which you have destroyed."

"Yes, he fucked me! So what?! You cannot change what happened!" Nadia seethed, anger building up on his behalf. Jane stared at her with narrowed eyes, feeling her anger double.

"What am I supposed to do? Pretend like I didn't see him shove his dick inside your vagina?! Or pretend like I didn't hear you chant his name as he shot his seed inside of you? What about the countless lies and kisses shared behind my back?!" Jane yelled, losing her cool. Her drink was long forgotten.

Nadia just stared at her for a short while, wondering why in the hell Nate even loved this woman to begin with. "You know what your problem is? It's not that he cheated on you, but it's because he chose me."

"Doesn't matter-"

"And now you hate me because I got the upper hand," Nadia clasped her hands, "You hate me because I finally have something you want. You cannot stand to see someone else happier than you are-"

"I have absolutely no interest in listen-"

"You will shut up and listen to me," Nadia warned with an accusing finger pointed at Jane and a tone that could install fear in anyone's bones. Jane never saw this side to Nadia and to be honest, she was quite scared of her now.

"You've always wanted to one-up me at everything. You're so filled with jealousy it's glowing all over your face, Jane. When are you gonna grow up and realise that life isn't a competition between us? I'm not gonna keep on fighting someone that's set on destroying every ounce of happiness I find.

I'm not in any way justifying what he and I did, but before you judge him, maybe you should take a look at yourself first. You have no idea how lucky you are to have a guy like Nate call you his. You have no fucking clue how painful it is to watch him love you through and through!

All you care about is your pride and social status," Nadia finally expressed her feelings, tears of agony and despair falling down her face but it was wiped away before it could ruin her makeup that took up most of her morning routine.

"Playing the pity party, are we, Nadia? You probably applied Vapour Max under your eyes so you can cry easier. Don't forget I use the same trick, best friend. I don't even know why you bothered spewing all these lies."

"You have no cooking clue how heartbreaking it is to see him come to my house drunk as hell and yet all he talks about is you? I swear if I could erase you from his mind I would because I know I can treat him much better than you ever will. And I don't care what you say because I have also fallen in love with him. Too sad the one he loves is too ashamed to go back to him," she spat, grabbing her handbag to leave but Jane's words stopped her.

"But you're my best friend. You're not supposed to fall in love with my boyfriend," she reasoned, trying to guilt-trap Nadia. Maybe if she realised her mistake she will apologize because quite frankly, Jane didn't want to let go of their friendship just yet. So much has gone into building it for it to be forgotten in just a matter of seconds.

Nadia took a deep, painful breath before turning to look Jane in the eye, "I was never your friend. You were simply someone I'd turn to when I was alone. Some people actually have standards when it comes to choosing friends, sweetie," she sassed with new found confidence, patting Jane's shoulder mockingly as she walked shortly before turning back around. "Oh, and let me remind you that you broke up with him so he's now your ex-boyfriend. Don't get it twisted. And I'll let you know right now that since he's your ex, I'll stop at nothing to get him in my claws again. Have a nice life."

Her words were like a reality slap to Jane. Nadia had never been so brutally honest to the point where they both cry. Jane was more upset that her plan to get her best friend back got ruined than that they will now most probably find solace in one another.

"His only mistake was loving you," Nadia whispered to herself as more tears fell down her face at her new reality. She lost both Jane and Nate. Why would she even bother living?
