(A/N now before all the mothers and pregnant women or previously pregnant women attack me in this chapter, can I please point out that I'm merely just a kid that has no knowledge of how a baby is delivered apart from my fair share of movies and series so if this isn't up to facts, well, this has been me warning ya. Okei? Okei.?)

Our Mole's POV (?)

"What is she doing here?" I whispered as I stormed towards the girl I call my sister.

"She's my friend."

"No shit!" He whisper-yelled, glancing towards the kitchen opening for any signs of Inéz.

"I invited her, big deal, bunny."

"Why?" I all but whined.

She snorted. "It's not that deep," she tried to reassure me but I shook my head, looking for a way out of this mess already.

"You do know that she's obsessed with me-"

"Like really obsessed. Crazy even-"

"So then why make me be the subject of this brutality?"

"Because you need to get laid," she points out like it's the most obvious thing.

"My sexual life is not up for discussions."

"Oh really? When was the last time you had sex?"

"Uhm," I say, wrecking my brain for an answer that's close to the truth.

"Six years ago?" She asks in a mocking tone.

"Six months ago," I correct her through gritted teeth.

"Same difference. You know, for a guy as good-looking as you, you sure don't flaunt it to get the women in your bed," she points it out like it's a bad thing I don't.

"Your point being?"

"If you don't use that massive Willy, it's gonna wilt."

"Who taught you Biology because I for sure didn't pay for that shit."

"Whatever, you still love me," she said confidently, giving me a tight hug which I immediately return as I kissed her forehead, grateful for her presence in my life nevertheless.

We were enjoying the silence until two things interrupted us: the annoying ringtone of my iPhone and the even more annoying voice belonging to Inéz.

"I got to take this," I say as I pulled my phone out and answered it. "Doctor Stamford, how can I help you?"

"Sorry to interrupt your day," the young nurse's voice said but I was more grateful to listen to her than Inéz who was practically eye-raping me from the doorway. "But there seems to be a situation here at the hospital."

I rubbed my temple, feeling like I already know what to expect next. "A lady in labor just got wheeled in and we're tight on Obstetricians right now."

"Right, is Doctor Lee there?" I ask because they said she'd be the one on call this weekend.

"No, she was sent out to the field for the Irish refugees. A couple of them were also in need of medical assistance."

"Alright, I'm on my way then. Page me the details of this lady," I say as I ended the call, rolling up my sleeve and kissing my sister good-bye. As for Inéz, I opted to give her a fist-bump.

This was why I never made plans at all.

I drive the car we came with and reached the city in forty minutes, taking me another twenty to get to the hospital. All the while I hoped and prayed for the woman to be okay with the contractions and whatnot.

"Doctor Stamford," the same nurse greeted me as soon as I walk out of the elevators and walked into the stuff room for my coat and other handy medical stuff.

"Hi Danny, lead me to her, would you please?"

"Right. This way," she said quickly, walking towards the room the new woman is currently occupying. "You read the page, right?"

I grinned, feeling slightly bad for not remembering a thing I read while I was driving. "Yes, I got this," I say to the nurse as I walk in and closed to door, turning around to face the woman.

Damn, she's flawless, the thought crosses my mind as I take a sit next to her and open my board, checking the pages about my new patient that were thankfully pinned there by the helpful nurse. Jane Scott.

"So, tell me everything you told the nurse," I say, keeping my cool. The last thing I wanted to do was make her feel uncomfortable. I sense she is nevertheless highly uncomfortable, therefore, I scoot closer to her.

"Is there somebody here with you?" I ask softly.

"My mother," she replies hesitantly, the fear evident in her eyes.

"And nobody else, right?" I ask because she looked like she wanted to add something. Instead, she shakes her head no. I could see the pain on her face but she was keeping strong. Also, the contractions must be getting closer by now. "Would you like her to come in with you? First-time mothers usually seek the comfort of a relative."

"She hates the sight of blood. We don't want you taking care of two uneasy women," she chuckled, instantly making me smile. I rest my head on my hand propelled by my elbow and almost swooned over the sound of her chuckle.

Who's woman is she?

"You mind if I check how far along you are now?" Again, she shook her head and so I get up from the stool and checked, as well as make sure her vitals are okay. "Guess you won't be needing an episiotomy," I smiled politely before walking out, my panic immediately coming out after closing her door.

"Okay, I need all the equipment as well as two standby nurses. Where's the anaesthetist? Fetch him."

"What about the hematologist? She was showing cases of possible sever tearing," Danny asks, instructing the people to wheel Jane Scott into the delivery room.

"She's already far enough," I say as I watch them wheel her into the surgical room, following right behind. As many times as I have performed this, no textbook ever prepared me for the real challenges doctors face in the surgical rooms.

We washed our hands and wore the rubber gloves, getting started on helping Jane Scott have a safe delivery. Once everything was done and the baby was ready to come out, I look up at the sweating beauty.

"Okay, now I'll need you to breathe in and push once as you slowly exhale. Can you do that for me?" I ask and she nods, doing as told. She screamed and held onto the nurse's hand with all her strength to push her baby out.

Just when she felt like stopping, the baby came out, with me holding her baby gently in one hand and the umbilical cord in the other while telling the nurse to cut it.

"Oh my God, that's my baby," she gushed, crying tears of joy when she was finally able to breathe. I smiled too, feeling a weird sense of pride towards the newborn. But it didn't last long when she realised something odd and reacted upon it.

"Why isn't she crying?" She asked, panic clear in her voice as she thrushes around to get her kid, the nurses trying to keep her still. That caused me to panic too because that's not a reaction I usually get.

I accepted the complementary blanket from the nurse and covered the baby, all the while ignoring Jane's panics because that'd make me panic too. I started pacing back and forth, trying to make the baby cry like she wants her to.

On instinct, I check the heartbeat with my index and middle finger and also the eye movements since she came out with eyes already opened. All was well but she still wasn't making a sound.

Oh God.
