Iris looked at Ethan with red-rimmed eyes, tears glistening pitifully.
Ethan acted as if he didn't see her.
Iris's current behavior was truly off-putting.
Previously, when Iris was dating him, she was a normal, elegant lady—graceful, gentle, and kind.
But now, was she trying to play the pitiful card?
Ethan said to Clara, "Go ahead."
Clara glanced at Sophia and Iris, then obediently went upstairs to pack her things without saying a word.
"Ethan..." Iris looked at Ethan with tear-filled eyes.
Ethan looked at Iris indifferently. "If possible, I would prefer you call me brother-in-law or Mr. Logan."
Iris's tears instantly streamed down her face. She looked at Ethan, biting her lip and holding back her sobs, looking very pitiful.
Sophia, feeling heartbroken, hugged Iris's shoulders. She said to Ethan, "Ethan, Iris truly loves you."
Ethan looked at Sophia with a slight sneer and asked, "Loves me enough to end up in another man's bed?"
Sophia's face turned very unpleasant.
She hadn't expected Ethan to be so blunt.
Did he really have no feelings for Iris at all?
"Sophia, I am now Clara's husband. What do you mean by saying my wife's elder sister loves me? Are you hoping I'll reciprocate her feelings? Have you thought about what would happen to Clara? After all, Clara is my wife now," Ethan said coldly.
"Clara is my wife."
These words made it clear that Clara and Ethan had consummated their marriage.
Sophia's face turned dark with anger.
Despite her repeated warnings, Clara still didn't listen to her.
"Clara doesn't love you," Sophia said dryly.
Ethan laughed.
"Sophia, it seems like you're trying to break up Clara and me. I'm curious, what benefit does breaking us up bring to you or the Everett family? Do you think that if you break us up, I'll accept my wife's elder sister? Are you treating your daughters like commodities for me to choose from?"
Sophia looked at Ethan with both anger and shame.
"Sophia, let me make it clear: if it weren't for Clara, the Everett family and the Logan family would have no connection by now. As for my wife's elder sister... even if she threw herself at me, I would find it repulsive," Ethan said coldly with a hint of mockery.
He truly showed no mercy to Sophia and Iris.
Iris was already in tears.
Sophia was so angry that she felt faint.
She had never been humiliated like this in her entire life.
She never expected to be humiliated by her own son-in-law today.
"Ethan, I'm sorry... It's my fault... I'm sorry..." Iris apologized through her tears.
Ethan ignored her. He sat on the sofa, crossed his legs, and played with his phone. He didn't want to talk to Iris; he only said so much to make things clear once and for all, to crush Iris's unrealistic fantasies.
Iris kept crying while looking at Ethan, but he didn't acknowledge her, not even sparing her a glance.
His complete disregard hurt more than his harsh words earlier.
Iris deeply regretted her actions.
Why had she been so foolishly tempted by Alexander Barber?
...
Clara took out a suitcase and started packing.
She didn't plan to take all her belongings with her.
Her relationship with Ethan was still uncertain.
Although they had held a wedding ceremony, they hadn't registered their marriage. Without a marriage certificate, their relationship wasn't legally protected. If Ethan decided he didn't want her anymore, he could easily discard her.
The Everett family had angered Ethan. She always believed that Ethan married her partly to get through the wedding and partly to take revenge on the Everett family. She was simply a tool for his revenge against the Everett family and her sister.
This 'tool' would eventually be discarded.
Clara packed some seasonal clothes and daily necessities into her suitcase and went downstairs.
At the top of the stairs, she glanced at the living room below. Her mother, sister, and Ethan were sitting on the sofa. Her mother was whispering something to her sister while hugging her shoulders. Ethan sat nearby with a cold expression, looking at his phone.
The atmosphere was clearly terrible.
The suitcase made a rumbling noise as it was dragged across the floor.
Ethan looked up and saw Clara standing at the top of the stairs with her suitcase. He frowned slightly. "Is that all you're bringing?"
Sophia and Iris also looked up.
"I packed some clothes and daily necessities. There are too many things; I'll pack more later," Clara said.
Ethan glanced at her, nodded, and said nothing more. He went upstairs, took the suitcase from her, and carried it downstairs.
Facing such a 'gentle and considerate' Ethan left Clara feeling at a loss... She could feel her mother and sister staring at her. She followed Ethan downstairs with a heavy heart.
Seeing Ethan being so gentle and considerate towards Clara made Iris cry even harder.
"Clara..." Iris forced a smile and said to Clara, "You should be good to your brother-in-law... Ethan. Don't let my presence cause any rift between you two."
