Her movements woke Ethan, who opened his eyes and glanced at her, his hand wandering.
Clara's face turned even redder.
"I... I have classes today," Clara declined tactfully.
Ethan looked at the clock on the wall; it was only seven o'clock. He bit her ear and said, "There's still time."
Clara and Ethan went downstairs for breakfast.
Ethan walked ahead, and Clara followed him with a flushed face. When they reached the dining room, most of the Logan family was already there.
The Logan family had strict rules: as long as they were not traveling, everyone in Riverton had to come home every night, no matter how late, and have breakfast together every morning.
This rule was set by Julian.
Everyone in the Logan family had to follow it.
Clara followed Ethan and greeted the elders one by one before sitting down to eat breakfast.
With Julian present, the atmosphere at the dining table was very pleasant, with harmony among brothers and sisters-in-law.
After breakfast, Clara went back to her room to get her textbooks, preparing to go to school.
She was stopped by Grace in the downstairs living room.
Grace didn't like Clara. She always thought Iris wasn't good enough for Ethan, and if the beloved Iris from the Everett family wasn't good enough for her son, then Clara, the neglected second daughter, was even less so.
"Clara, you're in your first year of college, right?" Grace asked with a smile.
Clara nodded. "Yes."
"You need to study hard. Now that you're part of the Logan family, you represent our family's reputation," Grace said with a smile.
Clara's heart tightened.
She knew Grace didn't like her.
"My expectations aren't high, but you must get straight A's in every exam," Grace said with a smile.
Clara nodded. "I understand."
"Spending one or two hours commuting every day affects your studies. I think you should live on campus. That way, you can have an extra one or two hours each day to study," Grace said with a shallow smile that didn't reach her eyes. It was a fake smile that showed no flaws but was clearly insincere.
Live on campus?
Clara's eyes lit up.
She wanted to live on campus.
Living on campus meant she wouldn't have to be with Ethan all the time.
Although Ethan hadn't tormented or retaliated against her, being alone with him made her feel scared and anxious, under a lot of pressure.
Clara left the house in a good mood. When she reached the door, she saw a Mercedes parked there. Not knowing who was inside, she planned to leave and take a bus to school. But after taking a few steps, the car honked. Clara looked over as the window slowly rolled down.
"Get in," Ethan's cold voice carried a hint of displeasure.
Clara hesitated for a moment before walking over and bending down to speak to Ethan through the car window. "I'm going to school."
"Get in," Ethan's voice grew colder.
Clara had no choice but to open the car door and get in.
As soon as she sat down, Ethan started the car.
Clara remained silent, not daring to ask where Ethan was taking her. Even when Ethan was in a good mood, she didn't dare provoke him; when he was in a bad mood, she dared even less.
However, gradually, Clara realized they were heading towards her school.
As they got closer to her school, Clara hesitated but finally spoke up.
"I want... to live on campus," Clara said.
Ethan frowned. "Live on campus?"
Seeing Ethan frown made Clara nervous, but she mustered up the courage to nod. "Yes."
Ethan didn't respond but clearly wasn't happy; his expression was dark and frightening.
"Our courses are quite intensive now. Commuting every day wastes over an hour that could be used for studying," Clara said.
Seeing that Ethan's expression hadn't improved, she grew more anxious.
She didn't dare say it was Grace who wanted her to live on campus. If she mentioned her mother-in-law and Ethan questioned her about it, Grace would think she was stirring up trouble between them, making her situation in the Logan family even more difficult.
"I... I'm your wife now. My grades can't be too poor; it would embarrass you and the Logan family," Clara said.
Hearing this, Ethan's expression softened a bit but he still didn't speak.
Clara felt she had said everything she could. Facing Ethan always made her nervous and cautious; she couldn't say more.
Thus, they remained silent until they reached Clara's school.
Ethan parked the car at the school gate. Clara opened the door and got out. Standing outside the car, she bent down and said to Ethan, "Thank you for driving me. Bye, I'm going to school now."
Ethan didn't respond.
Clara glanced at him before turning and quickly walking into the school gate as if something terrifying was chasing her.
