Clara glanced at Ethan quietly, just as Ethan looked at her. She was caught in the act.
Clara stiffened, her face turning red with embarrassment as she quickly averted her gaze. She wanted to say something, but her lips moved without words.
"Go take a shower," Ethan said.
Clara looked at Ethan in surprise. He was telling her to take a shower?
Clara started, "I..."
Ethan repeated, "Go take a shower."
Clara tried again, "We..."
Ethan insisted, "Go take a shower."
Clara fell silent.
Ethan commanded, "Go."
Clara finally relented.
She noticed Ethan's slight frown, sensing he was getting annoyed.
She still felt a bit afraid of Ethan.
Obediently, she went into the bathroom, undressed, and started the shower.
The hot water warmed her body and soul, rejuvenating her. She had felt like a puppet all day, led by Ethan.
Now she felt like herself again.
As she showered, she pondered what to do next.
Ethan was a man with complicated thoughts she couldn't fathom.
That morning, after receiving photos of her sister's infidelity, Ethan had left in anger, deciding not to marry her sister. Clara had no choice but to stop him because if Ethan didn't marry her sister, it wouldn't affect the Logan family much, but it would be a disaster for the Everett family.
Even if Ethan didn't care about the betrayal and didn't retaliate against the Everett family, his friends and relatives would surely seek revenge on his behalf.
Clara couldn't understand why Ethan suddenly decided to marry her instead.
A knock on the door interrupted Clara's thoughts.
"What... what is it?" Clara stammered nervously.
"You've been in there for half an hour," Ethan's cold voice came from outside.
Clara replied, "Girls take a long time to shower."
She felt a bit guilty.
After a moment of silence outside, she turned off the water and listened carefully. Hearing nothing, she sighed in relief. She looked down at her reddened skin, dried herself with a towel, and realized she hadn't brought any clothes, not even underwear.
Clara looked at her wet clothes on the sink with despair. How was she supposed to go out?
She searched the bathroom and found some items on a shelf next to the sink.
Upon closer inspection, she saw packaged condoms, stockings, underwear, and other embarrassing items.
Clara was surprised. How long had it been since she stayed in a hotel? They even provided these things now?
She unwrapped the underwear and put it on, then wrapped herself in a towel. Standing before the mirror, she wiped away the steam and saw her reflection—bright eyes, flushed cheeks, and fair skin.
Blushing, Clara adjusted the towel.
She looked quite appealing now.
But Ethan wouldn't be so shameless as to make a move on her, right?
After all, she had saw him as her brother-in-law for over a year.
He wouldn't be so shameless as to make a move on his sister-in-law.
He wouldn't!
Clara reassured herself that Ethan wasn't lacking women. A man like him could have any woman he wanted. He wouldn't stoop so low as to go after his ex-fiancée's sister.
She should have faith in Ethan's character.
Taking a deep breath and steeling herself mentally, Clara opened the bathroom door and peeked out cautiously.
Ethan was sitting on the bed in a bathrobe, looking at his phone. Hearing the door, he looked up toward the bathroom.
He saw Clara peeking out like a thief.
Ethan chuckled softly at her behavior.
Seeing Ethan, Clara clutched her towel nervously and hesitated before stepping out.
"Brother-in-law..." Clara called out with a red face.
Ethan looked at her and said calmly, "I'm not your brother-in-law; I'm your husband."
Clara's face turned even redder as she awkwardly replied, "Brother-in-law, don't say that... I know it's my sister who cheated on you. Marrying me today was just a temporary measure."
Clara felt genuinely embarrassed.
She wasn't really familiar with Ethan.
Though Ethan was engaged to her sister, he rarely visited the Everett family. When her sister and Ethan went on dates, they wouldn't bring her along as a third wheel. Clara was busy with her college courses while Ethan was busy with work. In over a year since their engagement, Clara realized she had only spoken to Ethan a handful of times.
They were barely more than strangers.
Ethan looked at Clara. He knew what she was thinking, but it didn't matter. She could think whatever she wanted; he would do what he intended.
"Come here."
