Chapter 10: The Logan Family

Although she was smiling, tears kept streaming down her face.

Seeing Clara like this made Iris feel very distressed.

Even though their parents might not be very fond of her, her sister had always been kind to her. The occasional care and concern from her sister were the only warmth she felt in this family.

Clara looked at Iris, who was crying silently, and moved her lips, but she didn't know how to start speaking.

Sophia glared at Clara. She had a lot to scold Clara about, but she didn't dare to do so in front of Ethan. There would be plenty of opportunities in the future since Clara was her daughter, and it was her duty to educate her.

"Let's go," Ethan said calmly.

Clara glanced at Ethan and then said to Sophia and Iris, "Mom, sister, I'm leaving."

Sophia remained silent with a cold expression, while Iris nodded tearfully.

Clara followed Ethan out.

As they walked outside, she turned back and saw through the floor-to-ceiling window that her sister was crying in their mother's arms, and their mother seemed to be comforting her softly.

...

The Everett family lived in the northern part of the city, while the Logan family resided near the western part, about a forty-minute drive from the Everett residence.

Ethan drove while Clara sat in the passenger seat. The car moved smoothly along the road.

Clara thought about the Logan family.

The Logan family's relationships were quite complicated. Because of her sister's relationship with Ethan, she had learned a bit about them. Currently, the head of the Logan family was Ethan's grandfather, Julian. Julian had two sons and a daughter. The daughter was already married off, and both sons had their own families.

The eldest son was Fabian Logan, and the second son was Samuel Logan.

Fabian had a son and a daughter, and Samuel also had a son and a daughter. Ethan was Samuel's son.

Ethan was neither the eldest son nor the eldest grandson, yet he was now the vice president of Logan Group. Once Julian retired, Ethan would take over as president. Julian was already in his seventies, so retirement would likely be within the next few years.

Compared to the Logan family, the Everett family could only be considered moderately wealthy. Yet even in this moderately wealthy family, there were constant power struggles between her father and her uncle. Her father was currently the general manager of the company, while her uncle was just a department manager. However, her father had no sons, while her uncle did...

If such power struggles existed in a moderately wealthy family like the Everetts, they would be even more intense in a trillion-dollar group like Logan Group.

She had heard and seen stories of parents, siblings, and spouses turning against each other for wealth.

Clara thought about it for a while and decided that it would be best for her to remain quiet and invisible within the Logan family.

She didn't want to get involved in the Logan family's power struggles. But having married Ethan, her identity meant she was destined to be drawn into those conflicts.

She hoped Ethan would let her go soon.

The Logan family's residence was in an older villa community with dozens of villas. Despite its age, it wasn't dilapidated; instead, it had a refined sense of history.

The Logan family's villa was located at the deepest part of the community and was the largest house there—a five-story European-style villa.

Ethan parked the car in the garage and got out. Clara took a deep breath before getting out as well. Standing by the car, she looked at the red-walled, black-tiled villa with nervousness in her heart.

Ethan took Clara's suitcase and walked ahead. Clara followed him.

"Mr. Ethan, welcome back," the butler greeted respectfully and then addressed Clara, "Lady Clara."

Clara nodded awkwardly.

In this modern society, being called "Lady" felt very awkward and outdated.

But this was the rule of the Logan family.

Nowadays, even ordinary wealthy families might only hire a couple of maids or nannies. But the Logan family had servants, including a butler, gardeners, cleaners responsible for hygiene, laundry staff, and a cooking team of over twenty people—more than some hotel kitchens.

Even more exaggerated was the Logan family's security team. They had fifty to sixty security personnel, most of whom were retired special forces soldiers. Whenever members of the Logan family went out, they had dedicated protection.

Clara had heard all this from Iris.

She found it all too exaggerated.

This kind of setup made it seem like an ancient noble family.

Clara followed Ethan into the house. This was her second visit to the Logan family; the first time was after Ethan and her sister got engaged when their family came to pay a New Year's visit.

The villa's interior was naturally luxurious but not gaudy—elegantly luxurious without losing the status of being the top family. It was very beautiful.

There was no one in the living room. Ethan took the elevator upstairs, followed by Clara and then the butler. The elevator stopped on the fourth floor. Ethan stepped out first, followed by Clara.

In their room, the butler set down their luggage.

"Mr. Ethan, Lady Clara, please rest for now. I will call you when it's time to eat," said the butler respectfully.

Ethan didn't respond. Clara smiled and nodded, "Okay."

The butler left.

Ethan took off his suit jacket and pulled off his tie before starting to undress.

"..."

Clara hadn't expected him to start undressing so suddenly. Caught off guard, she saw his back covered with crisscrossing scratch marks.
