Chapter 4: David and Lucy's friendship grew stronger

James is a forty-year-old guy who is a door-to-door Sales Agent. Unfortunately, he could not meet the targets, and the company demoted him to Sales Agent from Sales Manager. He could not bear the insult and began drinking the wine, but it became a habit within a few days.

Lucy went into her room silently as she prepared her mind mentally that her Dad was also not there for her. She used to have many hopes that she would sit beside her Dad and speak about various things. But, luck did not favor her. Her Dad became a drunkard, and she used to cry mentally for a person who would listen to her words and speak with her.

On the next day,

David saw Lucy walking on the road and got down from the vehicle. He ran towards Lucy but stopped when he saw an older woman crossing the street with great effort, and she did not see a car approaching her.

David ran towards the older woman and pushed her with great effort. He understood that death came to him as the vehicle came near David, but someone pushed him aside, making him fall.

David is surprised to see Lucy, who saved his life, but is shocked to see his Dad Benjamin, who got down from his vehicle shouting his name. He told Lucy to go away, but it was too late, as Williams saw Lucy who saved him.

Benjamin, a forty-five-year-old, is known for his ruthless behavior, especially towards poor and middle-class people.

David got up with fear and went towards Williams. He looked at Lucy and asked her to leave that place, as he feared that his Dad would blame her after he knew about her status. But, to his surprise, Benjamin laughed and congratulated Lucy for saving his son's life.

David became happy to see his Dad's generous behavior toward Lucy, but it did not last for a few minutes. Benjamin threw a dollar on the road and asked Lucy to take that. He got inside the vehicle and looked at David, who stood on the road.

"David, What are you doing there? Get inside." Benjamin shouted angrily.

David took the currency note from the road and tore it into two pieces, surprising Lucy and Benjamin. He took Lucy's hand and thanked her for saving his life.

Benjamin closed his eyes and asked the driver to move away from that place, as he knew the stubborn nature of his son.

After the vehicle left, David started walking and looked at Lucy, who stood in the same place as a statue. Lucy never spoke with any boy until then but felt that David was a nice guy she must not miss as he had a good character.

David went near to Lucy and assured her that he wouldn't do any harm to her and made Lucy laugh with his words.

Lucy is becoming close to David, and she starts speaking slowly with him. They share the food, crack jokes, and are waiting for the next day after the school gets over to look at each other. On Sundays, Lucy used to stay in the early morning at the meeting place as she used to go jogging with David.

It became a daily routine for Lucy to wait at the meeting place, and David used to walk along with her to the school. But, in school, they remained strangers, which surprised Ava, who had observed them for a long time.

One day, while everyone is going to their house from school, Ava calls Lucy, who is waiting for David. Lucy went towards Ava with fear. Ava gave her a marks sheet and told Lucy that she had failed the exam as she could not write a single word about the reproductive system. Lucy threw the paper down and left the school with a hateful expression. Ava took the report into her hands and looked at David, who came just then and searched for Lucy.

"David, Are you waiting for your friend?" Ava asked and gave the marks sheet to David.

David looked at the marks sheet and got surprised as Lucy got only 20 marks in Biology. He did not get any words to speak with Ava, as he knew that Lucy was a bright student in her academics.

David took a deep breath, kept the paper in his bag, and left the school. He doesn't know that another pair of eyes is watching David and Lucy's friendship.

Days passed by, and the final exam timetable came.

Lucy and David are studying with concentration and are competing with each other to score the highest marks. David tried to speak with Lucy about Biology but did not get the courage to talk with her. David requested Lucy concentrate on biology as she must pass the exams. However, Lucy's expressions changed whenever he spoke about that subject. David remained silent, thinking that Lucy was not interested in that subject.

Finally, the results came. Everyone is looking at the notice board with excitement. David went towards the girl's list and searched for Lucy's number in the top list. But, to his surprise, Lucy's number is on the B grade list, as she passed in Biology with just above pass mark. Her hatred towards Biology subjects made her stay in the B section in the fifth class and David in the A section, who passed all the topics in Distinction marks.

Their sections got separated, but not their friendship. Every day, David used to meet Lucy after school got over and shared his experiences in the class. Likewise, Lucy used to share her experiences, and their friendship grew with their age. David used to wait for Lucy without eating anything during the lunch period. Only after Lucy sat beside him he used to open the carriage.

Years passed, and Lucy completed her eighth class, but David failed the subjects. This incident shocked Lucy, and she tried to speak with David but stopped after seeing Williams in the school. She searched for David, but couldn't find him in the school.

"Lucy!" A voice shouted from behind her while she was looking around. Lucy looked at the person and was shocked, as her Dad James came to the school.
