Chapter 5 Choosing Rings

Kyle's POV;

"I don't like her. Fire her" i tell Penelope who is sitting on my desk watching me pace back and forth. "Why? She's super nice and on the way here she showed me some designs of previous wedding she planned." She defended "but i still didn't want her around me" i say in defeat.

"She won't,after..." She used her peripheral view to look at my expression. "After..what?" I say looking at her frowning.

"After tomorrow. She will bring a couple of ring designs for us to choose for our engagement that is in two days."

"Fine. But after that. No more" i say and she nods. We are interrupted by a knock on the door. "Come in." I yell and the door opens to see my father.

"Penelope!" He noticed her and smiled at her. "Father in law!" She replied to him and they hugged.

My father has always been fond of Penelope even when we were teenagers.

My father wanted to match make me with Winter Simpsons but he changed his mind and picked Penelope instead.

"I'm glad to see you two together. How are the preparations?" he asked, his smile never leaving his face. "We hired a wedding planner to help.“ i pitched in observing the both of them.

He makes me sign some documents and he leaves but not before saying bye to Penelope. And then she left as well.

That girl had Alexis face. She did look more mature but that face looked really familiar. But her name is Mackenzie. Maybe I'm over thinking this. Alexis is in Glendale,at least that's where i saw her last.

I was interrupted by another knock on the door. I didn't answer. The person knocked again. "Just get the fuck in!" I scream at the door and Lisa comes in. "What do you want"

"The list you asked for sir." she put it in my hand and i go through the list.  There were fifteen people on this list. They are getting too comfortable here, i should teach them a lesson. "Out of the fifteen i want you to fire five and leave the rest ten." She looked surprised at my words but didn't say anything and nodded.

The huge pile of work that were on my desk were remaining just four. Which means that i can take a break. I decide ti go home and take a nap. If eight years ago you told me that I'd be a businessman wearing a suit and waking up six to go to the office, i would have laughed and punched you in the face. But yet, here i am a businessman.

I went to my bed and decided to take a quick nap. I lay on my bed for at least thirty minutes but when my eyes opened up abit, it was dark. I checked thr time on my phone and it was saying, 2:30AM

Whrn my eyes sight that, i got more comfortable on my bed and sleep.

I woke up feeling heavy because i slept for some long. But the shower i took relaxed my body and made it feel light. I get dressed for the office. My engagement is tomorrow and I'm going to work,but i told myself after selection of rings I'd return home to rest.

I went to work after Penelope told me she was already on her way with the rings.

And as i expected the office was full, they all decided to come early today. I chuckled at how much power i had.

It wasn't long before Lisa brought my coffee and informed me that i had no pending work. I was relieved.

Currently, I'm sitting on my desk waiting for Penelope. She freaking told me she'd be here by two and it's already two-thirty.

"Sorry!" I hear as my door opened and i see Penelope looking at her gold- plaited watch. "She has to do something." She gestured at Macy who was behind her carrying a bag.

I should have known it would be her that'd make Penelope late.

"Whatever. Let's just get this over with." I murmured.

They sat down and she brought out a box containing different types of ring. They were nearly arranged. The first ring was a simulated Sapphire sterling ring

The second was an authentic titanium ring

The third was a 10karat pure gold ring and the last one was an exquisite Emerald ring.

All the rings were beautiful, but it was left to Penelope to decide. "What do you think babe?" She looked over to me. Shocked that she called me babe for the first time ever, "I like the 10karat pure gold for the engagement because it will look beautiful on you. For the wedding i guess the emerald cut one"

She looked at the ones i said she smiled. "We will take the two he said. Now excuse me while i call my mother and tell her that we've found the rings."

She left the office and it was just the both of us. She left her head down at all times. "Do i know you from anywhere?" I broke the silence filled room.

"No. I don't think so." She answered, adjusting the glasses she had on. "Look at me." i ordered and she shrugged. "I prefer having a conversation while looking at the person's face." I told her and she slowly lifted up her face.

Those eyes. Green and sparkly just like... No it can't be her..can it?

"What's your name again?" I asked. "Mackenzie Poiner." She replied quickly. And then the door opened again and Penelope came inside. "I will give you a cheque, follow me."

"No. How much do they cost?" My voices stopped them from walking further. "$100,000. Because the emerald was imported." Penelope replied and i took out a book and signed on a page and tore it out. I handed it over to Mackenzie and she took it. "Thank you." She smiled.

It can't be that Alexis has a twin sister and didn't tell me.

Penelope took her and left. When they both left i called Mason, Mason is a well known private investigator. The number wasn't reachable. I kept trying but to no avail.

Why am i thinking of someone else other than my fianceé. At least she didn't leave me. Unlike some others.

I left my office for the day and went home. My father also left the office early and came home. He hired a designer to get me a customised suit.

"I don't like it.....no....not....not this...hell no..i don't like this one either." After trying like ten different suits, the designer was slowly getting tired and so was my father. But i want something exciting and cool.

The designer sighed and held up one creamy suit that had patterns on it. I smiled, "why didn't you bring this out sooner. I will take this one."

He breathe in a sigh of relief and handed the suit over to me. My father was thrilled at the fact that i finally picked a suit.

We showed my mom the suit and she was impressed. We heard a honk outside and i looked out the window and saw Emily's car. Of course she wouldn't miss my engagement or my wedding.

"Kyle!" She squeled and came to hug me. I smile as i hug her back. "How are you?" I asked her and she hit me. "Forget about me, you will get engaged to an amazing girl. Remember what i said when you were in high school?" She had a grin on her face as i remember exactly what she's talking about. I nodded my head.

FLASHBACK

My mom made us stand by the door as Penelope and her father made way to our door.

Emily nudged my arm and whispered, "my future sister in law is coming." I laughed as it was funny. "I'm never getting married,so joke's on you."

"I told you so!" She teased. "Okay you were right." I finally tell her and the grin on her face increased.

Dinner was filled with laughter and talks about my engagement and plans for the wedding.

My phone started buzzing and on the caller ID showed Ashton.
