PRESIDENT ORDER TEARGAS

As I and Pete walked out of the president's office. Many things were on my mind.

And one of that stuff was what the president said to us about using teargas on the youth. I just couldn’t imagine that.

“Do you think it is the right thing to do,” Pete said. I paused. He also did.

“I don’t know what to think, whether it is right or wrong,” I said.

“I don’t think sending them away with teargas is the main option, we just need to convince them that the president is in a critical meeting on the matter,” Pete said.

“You know that they will never believe that, those youths are not stupid,” I said confusingly.

“Let's try to convince them once more. Maybe they will listen,” he said. I was dejected.

He pulled me alone. And we came to confront the youth.

As we get to them, they all keep quiet. I stared at them all one after the other.

“The President is currently in a critical meeting with some top officers when they have concluded on what to do. He will do a press release,” I said.

But the shouting of “no” rented the air. I was in dismay, I knew that Pete also felt the same.

“We are not evacuating here until the president appears to address us,” a man who appears to be their leader said.

“The President is very busy right now,” Pete said.

“Busy to preside over the country, why did we vote for him?” another man said.

“He should step down if he is busy,” another man said.

There was an affirmation of “Yes” from the others.

“Silence!” I shouted. They were all silent.

“He doesn’t insinuate what you all believe, he meant that the president is in a meeting to find a lasting solution on this matter, as a citizen, you were supposed to wait for his decision, rather than coming here to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the white house. There are other ways to display your voice than coming here. You are supposed to be in your various jobs as a citizen of the country. You are a future leader,” I said. I could notice that their faces were soft.

Just then there was a tear gas explosion. The youths dispersed like a flowering plant.

Then there were gunshots. Two youths fell. I dragged Pete inside the white house building.

We hurried up to the president's office. He was on call.

“Yes, I will do that,” he said. He stared at us before he dropped the call.

“Your excellency, why do you order the security to spray the teargas,” I shouted at him.

“Go and ask the security, for your incompetence, you are both fired,” he said.

I and Pete stared at each other. We are speechless with a lot of astonishment.

“You want to sack us?” I said.

“Yes, please leave all the government possession, which is in your care, with your department head,” he said.

We both stared at each other.
