Chapter 9

KNEELING DOWN TO CHARLOTTES HEIGHT I FIRMLY grasped her forearms. "Why, Charlotte?" I spoke in a rushed tone. She looked scared, good she should be scared. Me, Bellamy, Clarke and Finn were in the tent trying to keep Charlotte away from being killed.

"I was trying to slay my demons! Like you told me." She defended herself, looking at Bellamy. I snap my head up to Bellamy remembering the time we were in the cave. Before Bellamy could even talk I do it before.

"No!" I yelled louder than I intended. "He didn't literally mean it that way, Charlotte. You can't just kill people." Bellamy pulls me up away from her, she's now frightened by me but I couldn't care less at this point.

"What the hell is she talking about?" Clarke demanded standing closer to Bellamy.

"Sh-she misunderstood me." He stuttered.

"Bring her out, Bellamy!" Murphy's voices echos outside the tent. I saw the pain of regret in Bellamy but most importantly I saw the terror of Charlottes eyes. She's just a kid.

"Please don't let them hurt me." I crouched down again calming down.

"I won't let them hurt you." I softly let out as I watch the little girl cry, now regretting my harsh words from before.

"If you guys have any bright ideas, speak up." He waited for an answer but no one answered, "Now you stay quiet." Bellamy spoke up to everyone.

Finn was agitated so he raised his voice at Bellamy. "Those are your boys out there."

"This is not my fault. If she had listened to me, those idiots would still be building the wall." He pointed at me, just as I thought he couldn't be more of a jerk than before he blames me for doing the right thing? Maybe if he didn't let Murphy get hanged this wouldn't happen.

"My fault? I don't regret telling people that one of our own people killed our friend. Maybe if you didn't let Murphy get hanged he wouldn't be this pissed!" I retorted, pissed at him.

"You want to build a society, princess?" Murphy uses my own words against me. The anger in my eyes were noticeable when he used that nickname. "Let's build a society. Bring her out." An idea shot in my mind as I looked at Bellamy.

I let go of Charlottes hands, before I could do anything she stopped me. "No! Please, Isla."

"Don't worry." I smile delicately. I pushed Bellamy out the tent hoping it would make some sort of distraction so we can take Charlotte out. Finn and Clarke both express a wired expression, "Are you coming or not?" I said walking out of the tent behind us secretively, protectively holding Charlottes hand.

In the distance I could hear the anger out of Murphy, talking badly about a kid. This dick has no standards. We were walking trying to find a place for Charlotte to keep away from that psychopath.

"It's going to be night soon." I said walking aimlessly around the woods. Charlotte warps her hand around Clarke, but she didn't take it lightly.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" She rudely hollowed at Charlotte, "Just because we saved you doesn't mean you're forgiven. Got it?" She shouted.

"Clarke, take it easy. She's just a kid." I stepped in front of Charlotte.

"She killed Wells." She eyes down at me, "You killed someone, Charlotte. Ended his life. Did you stop to think about that for even one second?" Clarke stepped closer to Charlotte but I help protect her as if it was my duty. "Look at me! You can't just kill someone to make yourself feel better." She grasped onto her.

"Back off." I warned, a voice echoes in the woods and it was Murphy.

"Charlotte!" Murphy howlled, "Clarke, Isla and Finn can't save you."

"Girls, I found a place. Get in." Finn opened a bunker. I let Charlotte go through first, following behind. The bunker was pitch black, going through my mini backpack I carry and use my light. Clarke and Finn did the same, this place looked like a home made to prevent a nuclear weapon from coming. Charlotte clutched on me as I wondered around the place.

"What is this place?" Clarke wonders.

"For now, it's home."

A sudden gasp from Clarke woke me up. "She's gone." Clarke panicked, I grabbed my backpack leaving the bunker immediately. How did I not realise she left? Finn voice echoed behind telling me to slow down but I couldn't. What if Murphy got to her and killed her?

"Charlotte!" I yelled her name in the endless forest. Finn and Clarke caught up with me, Finn noticed trails of small footprints but also much bigger ones. She's not alone.

"Someone else was here." Finn took my words. A young voice roars over in the distance screaming Murphy's name.

"No.. no." I muttered running to that direction. If Murphy gets to her I will never be able to forgive myself.

Racing through the woods, the screams become clearer. It was hard to run in the dark, but I managed to run as fast as I could. I saw a tall figure at the end, rushing towards to the figure my vision became more clear seeing Bellamy and Charlotte together.

"Thank God." I let out a huge sigh. A gang of army approached with pitchforks, Murphy's glare was deadly I could say but I wasn't afraid.

"You can't fight all over us. Give her up." Murphy aggressively shouted. I protected Charlotte even more.

"Over my dead body." I gritted my teeth, furious by the sight of Murphy.

Finn and Clarke comes out the trees. "This has gone too far." Clarke stood between Bellamy and Murphy.

"Too damn right." I pushed past Clarke towards Murphy. "Murphy let her go and we can talk about it." I say hoping we can make emends. This backfires as Murphy twirls me around, my back stuck to his front with a knife to my neck. Pressing my head further against his dirty cheek.

"I'm sick of listening to you talk." He harshly spat.

Bellamy stepped closer, pissed at what's happening, until Murphy points him back, "Let her go." The fury in his eyes was visible and makes me feel less tensed that he cares about me, his eyes never leaving mine. "I will slit her throat." He threatened pulling the knife closer to my throat. I tried not to breathe deeply so it wouldn't stick in.

"No, please." Charlotte cried. "Please don't hurt her." I felt Murphy smirk run up against my cheek, I hated that feeling.

"Don't hurt her? Okay, I'll make you a deal." My eyes run back to Belling telepathically trying to tell him it's not going to be a good idea. My eyes quiver by the action Bellamy did holding Charlotte closer. "You come with me right now, I will let her go." Murphy's face falls down to mine.

"Charlotte, don't!" I ordered her. "It's okay." I cant let her get killed, I wont let him do that.

Charlotte tried pushing past Bellamy but of course he stops her. "No! No, I have to!" She wails as Bellamy holds her.

"Bellamy, don't let her go." I shouted but Murphy gripped me tighter.

Charlotte finally gave up, and I felt easy. "I can't let any of you get hurt anymore. Not because of me. Not after what I did." She stopped, eyes travelling everywhere.

I had a horrible feeling about this.

"Charlotte?" I questioned worriedly.

"I'm sorry.." She weeped, Charlotte fell off the cliff, horrified by what I witnessed. Murphy was even shocked he let me go.

"Charlotte!" I wailed running down the edge of the cliff. Bellamy hheld my waist preventing me to fall. The ground was covered in fog, tears flowing down my cheeks I turned around to see Murphy. Bellamy practically ran over to Murphy holding him against the tree.

"Bellamy!" Clarke shouted, but he ignored her. He pushed him on the floor continuing punching Murphys face. "Bellamy stop! You'll kill him." Good, I deeply thought watching the fog where Charlotte went into. I thought even more that actually we are the problem, running up to Bellamy I shove him to the side.

"Bellamy, stop!"

He stood up pointing the finger on me. "He deserves to die." I look down at Murphy at his bloody face.

"We don't decide who lives and dies. Not down here." I yelled.

"So help me God, if you say the people have a right to decide..."

Clarke walks in between us. "No, we was wrong before, okay? You were right. " She peers up at him. "Sometimes it's dangerous to tell people the truth. But if we're gonna survive down here, we can't just live by whatever the hell we want. We need rules."

Bellamy expressed a confused face. "And who makes those rules, huh? You two?" He looks down at both of us.

"For now we make the rule." I chimed in. "And he definitely wont go unpunished." I glared down at Murphy.

"So what do you do?"

"We banish him." I decided, not within seconds of my decision Bellamy already goes against it. Bellamy pick Murphy up to the edge of the cliff. "Bellamy, what the hell are you doing?"

"If I ever catch you near camp, we'll be back here. Understand?" He threatendd, I relax knowing he wont kill him. Bellamy flared throwing him on the floor like some rubbish. "As for the four of you, you can come back and follow me, or go off with him to die. Your choice." He walked away past me, wiping the bloody hands.

The camp remained silent and followed Bellamy behind. Despite what happened, I was proud of what he did, I really did underestimated him at the start but now he's just a caring person who feels empathy, unlike some. I felt eyes at my side, swerving Finn smirks walking closer to me. "I'm proud of you, Isla." He says softly.

"Why are you so proud of me?" I said as I wiped my leftover tears on my face, not in the mood to talk.

"You're not so much like your dad." Was the last thing he said before walking away. That's the Idea, I don't want to be like him.

Its been an hour.

Surrounded with Octavia, Monty, Clarke, Finn and Jasper frustration grew when Monty threw Clarke's wristband. We were so close to getting the Ark but instead he fried it. All of it. Everything was growing horribly wrong.

I left the drop ship running to the tent. Thankfully it was empty. I scream in agony letting my emotion out as threw the table. Bellamy rushed inside the tent, clearly distressed. "Hey. the whole camp heard you." I ignored him letting my tears out. Footsteps of his feet coming closer my body leans on his chest as I weep.

The comfort Bellamy gave was sure needed, his strong scent of men burning my nose but I liked it. His wide hand brushing my back feeling his head resting on mine. "It's all going to be fine." He comforted. Bellamy lifted my head to face him although my vision was a blur I could still see him. His thumb wiped the tear that left my eye.

"We're dead. The Ark can't hear us. Grounders want to kill us and we're all turning against each other." I softly cried. "I can't be here anymore." I weeped. Bellamy lifts my head up to face him, he looked guilty.

"Don't say that." He hardly lets out. "What happened to Charlotte is not your fault." I scoffed, moving away from him.

"Really? It didn't seem like that when I told you." Bellamy flickered his eyes up.

"I didn't mean it." He huffed. "You did whats best for your people. Remember?" He walked closer, heart beating faster.

His finger lifts my chin.

"I wont let anything happen to you," I stare deeply into his dark eyes. "I promise." What's funny is that he meant it.

There's something about him that made me believe him..
