Chapter 12: The Feeling of Being Homeless

After tutoring Benjamin, she hurried all the way and finally arrived at Grandma's Kitchen.

Louis had already ordered the food.

She sat down, and Louis asked, "Are you tired?"

She took a few gulps of water. "What I teach others is what I already know, and I'm sitting while teaching, so how could I be tired?"

"You silly girl, don't you ever complain?"

"I'm not suffering, Louis. Don't always think that I'm the only pitiful one in the world. Actually, I'm doing quite well." She smiled and ate happily.

"Eat slowly, no one is going to take it from you."

She laughed, "You can't take it from me anyway; I'll eat it all."

"Yes, eat it all. If it's not enough, I'll order more for you. Look at you, you're so thin. If Carolyn were still alive, she would be heartbroken."

When Louis mentioned her mother, she sighed, "Louis."

"Alright, alright, I won't say anymore. Just eat."

Louis occasionally picked food for her. They exchanged smiles and she felt very happy.

At that moment, a shadow appeared beside them, blocking their light.

Keira turned her head and when she saw the woman's face standing beside her, her appetite vanished instantly.

Louis stood up with a frown. "Nora, why are you here?"

"Louis, you really have nerve. You come back from abroad and don't even look at your own sister but come to visit an illegitimate child first."

"Shut up."

"Did I say something wrong? She is a bastard. She is a disgrace to our mother, yet you treat her so well."

Louis said sternly, "Nora, watch your mouth."

Nora snapped, "Louis, after all, I am your real sister. How can you yell at me for an outsider?"

"Who taught you to be so rude?"

"How am I rude? Just thinking about how our mother was pointed at because of her makes me want to kill her. It's already merciful that I haven't."

Keira clenched her fists tightly and stood up, matching Nora's height.

"Miss Serrano, please speak respectfully. First of all, I don't have a father, so don't force your father on me; I don't care for him.

Secondly, I haven't spent a penny of the Serrano family’s money or eaten a grain of their rice. Even when my mother was sick and hospitalized and needed money to save her life, I didn't beg from the Serrano family. So really, no one in the Serrano family has the right to criticize me."

Her words made Nora's face turn pale with anger. "Your existence is a disgrace."

"That's your opinion, not mine. I am proud to be my mother's daughter."

She took a deep breath, grabbed her bag, pulled out an emergency thousand dollars from it, placed it on the table, called out "Check please," and turned to leave.

Louis took a few steps to catch up with her and grabbed her arm. "Keira, listen to me. Nora, she..."

"Louis, don't say anything. Leave me some dignity. I'm going back now. Call me if you need anything."

With tears in her eyes, she smiled at him before pulling her wrist free and walking away quickly.

Louis turned back and glared at Nora. "Are you satisfied now?"

With that said, he also left the restaurant.

Keira walked along the roadside for several hundred meters before finally sitting down by the road.

She liked watching the traffic because she envied that others had a place to go.

She took a deep breath. "Mom, I miss you. I miss you so much."

In the congested traffic, Harrison spotted Keira by the roadside immediately.

The car was stuck in place for ten minutes; he watched her for ten minutes.

She looked like a motionless puppet with her head down, staring at the ground.

He opened the car door and walked towards her.

A pair of black leather shoes appeared in front of her. She frowned and looked up with tear-stained cheeks.
