Chapter 9

I don’t think there was ever a time in my life that I have wished for class to last longer. Their prying eyes were laser beams, sharp and almost painful. I could just feel their burning desire to question me, and their need for answers. There was only a few minutes left of class, and I was sitting there contemplating how to make my escape without having to talk to them. I had a feeling that it wouldn’t matter how quick I was this time, they were going to demand answers and hunt me down.

My answer came in the form of my frantic ex boyfriend throwing the door open.

“Please don’t embarrass me.” I quietly begged over and over.

"Dakota!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, while I sank down into my chair hoping he wouldn't see me. His eyes scanned the room until he found me. “I know you’re in here. I’m not going anywhere until I speak to you.”

Knowing I lost this round, and wanting to end this quickly, I sighed and stood up. "You do know that this is a small class right? You did not have to be dramatic and over the top? What do you want, David?" I spat venomously.

He runs up the aisle and drops down to his knees. "David can we please talk about this in private?" I harshly whisper at him.

He either didn't hear me or ignored me, but I'm willing to bet it was the later. "Baby I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for you show up there and see that."

That was the worst thing that he could say to me right now, and it immediately infuriates me. My hands instantly ball into fists, and I send my right one flying at him successfully connecting with his jaw. "Oh?! You didn't mean for me to walk in on you and your slut? You didn't mean for me to ever find out? Or was it that you didn't mean for me to save your ass and in your office with Gray?" I furiously ask.

It seems like this school is just going to get a front row seat to every bit of my drama. Every single one of my personal and private moments of my life since I've come here has been on display. It's really starting to tick me off, not to mention how embarrassing it is. I don’t even want to tell my brother my story let alone a bunch of strangers.

"None of those. Well I do wish you hadn't have walked into see that, but I am sorry. It won't happen again I swear." He begs while rubbing his jaw.

I scoff, "and you call yourself a leader. Here you are on the ground begging me to come back to you when it was your stupidity that got you here in the first place. Get up before you make TBH look weaker than you already are." I know that was really harsh, but it was also the truth. If any of our rivals were to see him like this they'd instantly know his greatest weakness. Not only is he putting the gang's life in danger, but he's making me a target. I also know that the quickest way to get him out was to take a direct and fatal hit to his ego. He never handles that very well. He must either understand what I'm saying or he got embarrassed because a second later he gets to his feet.

"We will talk about this at the house tonight Dakota." He says before leaving the class.

I'm quick to try and follow; key word being try. Some body reached over to take a firm grip on my hand, and I'm fairly sure that I can guess who it is. Turning to face Devon with a glare I rip my hand out of his. "You should never touch me unless you have a death wish."

"I just want to talk to you, Dakota, but every time I try you run off." he sadly responded.

"Has it ever occurred to you that I run off because I want nothing to do with you?" I sneer.

"It has, but what I don't understand is why!" He says angrily raising his voice.

"Seriously! You don't understand why?” I ask him in shock.

“Obviously. I wouldn’t be asking if I already knew.” Devon responds with attitude.

“I am going to need you to calm that little attitude down real quick. If anyone deserves to have an attitude it is me, and I can assure you that if you continue this way I will never speak to you or give you the answers you are looking for.” I scoff at him.

“Please then dear sister, enlighten me. What have I done to make you absolutely hate me? I have been trying and trying to come up with a reason and can’t come up with anything that would warrant this kind of treatment from you.” I can’t tell if that was genuine or if he was being sarcastic, but I decide to cave and give him a short and not so sweet version.

“Well then let me just clue you in a tiny bit. You promised that you would never leave me behind, and you did. You completely abandoned me when you got here. One random day you just decided to stop calling, and that my calls weren't important enough for you to answer any more. I tried calling you for months! Months Devon! You never answered or called me back. I can understand that you went to college and have been living your best life, but some of us didn’t have that luxury. Some of us needed help. Some of us had to deal with a lot of horrid things, and could have used their brother to talk to, but you couldn’t even give me that.

Just like you promised to never hurt me, but you broke that promise to." I sadly said, then quickly left.
