Chapter eight

"Do you understand?" Zayden and my grandmother watched me as I tried to process the information. It was overloading and I was desperately trying to filter it all through but I knew one thing for sure, my wolf was feeling a sense of peace I have never felt from her before.

"So you're telling me, were bound together for life. Me and you." He nods amusement dancing in his eyes.

"A-nd I have to live with you and marry you a-and have a family with you?" He nods. I could feel myself start to hyperventilate; this was all so new. Too new.

I did not even know my kind could have mates. I was on the verge of a panic attack but my grandmother seemed more than excited about it all and this Alpha just seemed to speak as if he has rehearsed this interaction.

"Yes, in a week I will come retrieve you and bring you here." Involuntarily I nod, what else could I do? This man seemed completely determined to make this plan happen and I know nothing about the world of the wolves or how their laws work.

Looking over to my grandmother she was smiling but tears brimmed her eyes.

"My baby, I love you." She pulled me into a tight embrace, and I felt a tear fall from my eye. "I love you too grandma." She smiled at me wiping my tears with the pads of her thumbs.

"Can you give us a moment dear?" She looks to the man but he is staring at me, I quickly avert my gaze. Nodding I stood, stealing one last longing glance at Zayden I left the office.

A sob inwardly broke through my chest painfully as I walked the confusing corridors. I did not want to go back to the ball, I did not want to leave my grandmother I did not want to leave my home.

I need some air, I stumbled out onto a balcony. I took deep heavy breaths as tears fell more freely down my face.

This cannot be happening.

"Are you Danielle?" I turned wiping the last if my tears I looked at a guy who looked almost exactly like Zayden except his hair was cut short and his beard was thinner, like he just started to grow it.

I nodded. What did he want with me?

"I'm Jayden, your grandmother and my brother have requested you at the entrance." He smiled warmly and I nodded, I followed him through the maze-like hallways.

"So your Zayden’s brother." I mumbled to myself studying his features, he looked young. Like he had a lot of innocence hurried inside him.

"Twin to be exact, so you must be the mysterious mate." I feel my cheeks blaze at his words. "I'm hardly mysterious." I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. Our little talk came to a screeching halt when we finally reached the entrance.

My grandmother was smiling saying her goodbyes to Johnathan, I could feel Zayden’s piercing gaze on me, so I turned to him.

"It was nice to meet you." I say awkwardly holding my hand out for a shake. He chuckles.

"I'll see you soon my love." His smooth plump lips meet my cold hands and this time I welcome the sparks.
