CHAPTER 9

Theia

"Hey, get up!" I crouch to his level, hitting his hand and moving away quickly like staying any closer would burn me to the ground.

I repeat this two more times before kneeling beside him and placing both my hands in his shoulder, tapping him endlessly. Unfortunately, none of what I need made him open his eyes.

"You can't be here, get up." I began to panic, already imagining my mother back at the house.

I brought out the watch and saw that it was still working. But just to make sure, I moved closer to him and placed my head on his chest, trying to listen to his heartbeat and it was unbelievably slow.

When his heart didn't beat, I feared that he was already dead. But when it eventually did, I sighed in relief, hoping that wasn't his last heart beat.

His breathing was steady but slow. I hadn't expected anything less, not after his heartbeat.

"We had nothing in common anyway." I rose to my feet and walked away, looking at the watch every second only to check if it still worked and it did.

He seemed to know something about the watch and from what he had said, there was probably more of his kind.

I couldn't really tell, all I can do is guess what his words meant. But whoever "them" was, they definitely could lead me to my father.

"Ugh!" I groaned, stopped just before I jumped over the wall and got out of the school.

No one else could get to know of his existence. His annoyance that I did, proved that.

I needed him and alive if I must find my father. I hated that my life was beginning to gravitate toward someone I was just meeting, especially someone as arrogant as he was.

But I couldn't help it, I had to endure it. At least until I found my father. Until then, I can't leave him lying unconscious on the field of a human school.

Reluctantly, I turned around and soon, found myself walking back to where he laid. I checked his heartbeat and breathing once more and they had only worsened.

Quickly, I pulled him off the field, grateful that I had enough upped body strength. But my gratitude didn't last for much longer as his weight rested on me, making my legs quiver.

I staggered, trying not to fall to the ground as I held him in my arms. The school gate was locked as expected and I had no other choice but to jump over the wall with him.

Firstly, I pushed him onto the wall before climbing onto it myself. The school walls weren't so high so I pushed him down without the fear that he might obtain a fatal injury.

Once he was on the ground, I joined him, cussing silently as I took him in my arms once again.

The walk back home seemed longer than the walk to school and by the time I had gotten home, my clothes were drenched in sweat.

The people of Brilfield never really cared what happened during the odd hours as long as it wasn't robbery, murder or any other punishable offence so I was reassured that my neighbors were sure to keep their mouths shut.

I couldn't go through my window this time so I just used the back door. I could only hope that my mother wasn't back home, waiting in my room for my arrival.

Luckily for me, she wasn't home yet. Sighing relievingly, I dumped his bodu on the bed and locked the door.

I ran a bath on him, trying nothing to look or touch places that I knew human men wouldn't appreciate girls that weren't their wives touching or staring at.

I wore him my dad's clothes before shoving him under the bed. I made sure I hid him properly, trying to fit his long legs under my tiny bed. Seeing that my plan wasn't going to work out well, I covered him with my dirty clothes.

When I was done, I walked to the door to see if his presence under my bed was noticeable.

"That should do the trick." I mumbled, satisfied with my handiwork.

I took a shower and tucked myself in bed, momentarily checking on my guest and the watch. It was still spinning but not as crazy as it was when I was at the school.

The fact that it was still spinning only meant it had a connection with Mr Colorful eyes. I mentally patted myself, thankful that I hadn't stubbornly left him on the field.

I fell asleep soon afterward, the constant ticking of the watch like a lullaby putting a baby to sleep.

When I opened my eyes, I wasn't in my room any more.
