Theia
"What the hell?" I gasped, freezing on the spot.
I held the watch closer, looking around for signs of anything strange but there was none. Slowly, I rose to my feet, still with the watch in my hand.
When I turned to the right, the hands spin even faster and even when I turn to the left. This left me confused on what direction to take.
I kept the watch back into my pocket and got out of the library. Occasionally, I would check it to see if it was still spinning, and it was.
My mother soon finished with the arrangements for my resumption and I was given my admission letter to resume tomorrow.
Usually, there were no such things like Brilfield College. Only elite schools ever took entrance examinations to test the mental capacity of the student. Anyone who failed twice, was never allowed to sit for the entrance examinations.
But in Brilfield College, students were admitted based on the financial capacity of their parents. Whoever could not meet up to their standard, was never admitted. Their standards weren't too high anyway, students seeking admission were almost never not admitted.
"Thank you, mother." I said to her, breaking the silence.
She turned to me as we made a turn into our street, "Thank you for choosing this."
I always wondered why my mother thanked me for choosing to attend College. She took care of the bills, if there was anyone that should be thankful, it should be me, to her.
As we passed by, my mind drifted back to what I had seen last night. It was terrifying but enchanting. It wasn't something I was supposed to see, I was very sure of that.
But whatever it was, it's definitely something that could lead me to my father so I am willing to take the risk. I was tempted to bring out the strange watch to see if it was going crazy but I had to restrict myself.
I couldn't answer questions my mother was definitely going to ask.
Immediately we had gotten into the house, I headed straight for my room, locking the door once I was inside.
I took out the watch and much to my prediction, it had stopped working. The fact that it worked only when I was outside the house was insane.
It only started working last night when I was close to that colorful thing but stopped when I returned home. But now, started working at Brilfield College.
"Could it have...?" I mumbled to myself but shook off the thought immediately.
There was absolutely no way it could possibly be in Brilfield College. It wasn't like anything I've seen and I'm sure no one in Brilfield College had seen anything like that, too.
"So if it were in Brilfield College, someone would have definitely noticed it and raised an alarm. Maybe the watch continued working from yesterday's encounter."
I wanted to tell myself all of that but I knew better. I couldn't get to see what it was so there was a possibility that it was going to blend into the school. Moreover, the watch had stopped working when I returned home yesterday.
"Theia?" I heard my mother's voice but it sounded afar off.
"Theia!" I heard her voice once more but this time, it sounded closer.
"Open the door, Theia!" Her voice was clearer now.
"Open the door right now, Theia!" My eye lids flung open when I heard her yell my name.
I rolled off the bed and staggered to the door, unlocking it. There was an angry look on her face that melted down to something that looked like worry once she looked at me.
"Are you okay?" She asked, holding my face.
"Yes, I am. Sorry about the door." I apologized, guilt eating so deeply into me over the fact that I had to hide so much from her, especially when it concerned my father, her husband.
"Theia, are you having nightmares again?" She asked and I nodded slightly, hugging her so I wouldn't have to look into her eyes as I lied to her.
When my father disappeared, I continued having terrible nightmares about his death. Sometimes, I felt like the police wouldn't have stopped their search for him if I had never said anything about him dying in my dreams.
All of that had stopped a long time ago. But right now, I needed something else to say to her; lie to her about and I couldn't think of anything better.
"It's fine, you didn't have to shut yourself inside. I know it's hard but you have to move on." She patted my back and I sniffed.
She hadn't moved on, I know she still saw him in her dreams too but would never admit. She was only saying this so that I could forget about him.
But I couldn't, especially not after my progress on his search.
" Off to the field?" I asked her, disengaging from the hug.
"I could stay if you want me to." She smiled at me but I shook my head, I needed her out of the house.
"It's fine..." I tried not to sound so desperate to see her walk out of the house.
"... I'll be fine. I can just read some books in preparation for tomorrow." I smiled, hoping I could convince her.
"That sounds nice. I'll be home even before you fall asleep." She kissed me before leaving.
Once she was out, I rushed into my room and changed into the clothes I wore last night.
I gazed into the watch when I got out, using the dim streetlights but it wasn't working, not yet.
When I eventually got to Brilfield College, it began spinning even faster than it was earlier today. The school gate was locked so I had to jump over the fence. It wasn't so easy for me as it was my first time doing anything like this but the thought that leaving would mean not ever seeing my father, scared me so much, it helped me to keep going.
When I turned to the right, it stopping working but when I turned to the left, it resumed working.
This helped me know what direction to turn to. Eventually, I ended up at the school field. I looked down at the watch and it had gone berserk, spinning faster than I had ever seen it spin.
I walked into the field but there was nothing. Nevertheless, the watch continued spinning. I looked around, straining my eyes to see through the dark but there was really no one.
".... I'll be home even before you fall asleep." My mother's words echoed in my head, making me turn around to leave, disappointed.
I had barely left the field when I heard a screeching sound behind me. I turned around only to see a pair of striking blue eyes staring at me....no
... staring at something behind me.
"You shouldn't be here."
