Brave

Dreadful Monday morning, why must a weekend only be two days? I entered the school building and made my way through, walking up to my favorite spot when I noticed that I had a visitor. And he was standing with his back against the wall, smoke between his lips and head down as he stared at his phone.

I walked up to him, took the cigarette from his lips, and placed it between mine. He looked up from his phone, first, he looked pissed off but then it turned into a full-blown smile. "Morning, Adams." He greeted slipping his phone into his pocket, I blew out the smoke and handed him his cigarette back to him.

"You do know my salvia was all over." He said putting the cigarette back between his lips.

"I know, I can taste you. Hmmm, all minty." He just shook his head at me blowing out the smoke and held the cigarette out to me.

"I like the fact that you are not afraid of me."

"Is there a reason why I should be?" I asked dropping the bud and stomping on it. "With you, I'm not too sure. I am basically still figuring you out."

"I'm not that hard to figure out."

"Here comes your friend." He just smiled at me and then pointed out looking over my shoulder, I looked over my shoulder and saw Daphne making her way over to us.

"Hey, Daph." I greeted.

"Hey." She said with a pitiful wave. Brandon looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

"What's wrong?"

"Well, since you." Daphne started, poking Brandon in the chest. "Broke up with Clarissa, my life has turned upside down. Clarissa has been home every single day." Daphne said with sigh.

"Bad?" He asked trying not to smile.

"Oh, hell it is bad alright. She has been on my case, keeps on bugging me and picking on me."

"Just lock your door like you always have." Brandon said with a shrug.

"You know that they are siblings?" I asked him.

"He knew alright because when he came over to bang Clarissa, I was always there across the hallway listening to them going at it." She said scrunching her nose up in disgust.

"So, you heard the pelican noises." Daphne looked at me weirdly while Brandon cracked a smile and let out a throaty laugh.

"If you are suggesting my sister is loud then you have no idea. One time I had enough and slipped in my earphones and listen to music. I heard her over the music."

"Sounds painful, I just have to listen to her voice in class and that is already enough." I said placing my arm over her shoulder. She dropped her head on my shoulder and let out a sigh. "I need to get away from her."

"Well, now is your chance as we have to get to class." I said releasing her and picking up my bags.

"It doesn't help because I have at least four classes with her."

"Sucks to be you."

"Tell me about it."

We said our goodbyes to Brandon who spotted his friends and left us to catch up with them while we walked over to the classroom.

"I sometimes wonder why my father married my mother. I mean she is just like Clarissa, an uptight bitch with a crap personality. Was she like a one night stand to him and his one-night stand went wrong so he had to step up and become responsible? And when things didn't work out, he left her." I watched her shake her head in disbelief.

"People at the cemetery must probably think I'm crazy for yelling at my father's tombstone." She said.

"Are you mad at him?" I asked even though I knew the answer.

"Yes. I am mad at him for marrying her, for dying and leaving me with her. He doesn't know what he did to me." I just nodded unable to think of a reply.

"You must think I'm pathetic."

"Not at all." I said shaking my head.

"When people leave us, we have to be left with their consequences."

"You got that right." Daphne scoffed.

We entered the classroom and started making our way to our seats when Clarissa caught my attention and I felt disgusted just admitting that. "What is your sister wearing?" I asked looking at Clarissa who was seated on top of a desk, her legs crossed while she spoke to the Jocks of our school.

"A thing she calls a skirt." Daphne muttered walking off.

A skirt? That thing couldn't be called a skirt. It looked like a scarf that she wrapped around her ass.

"I think she is taking the break-up hard." Daphne said from beside me.

"You think?" I asked lowering myself onto the seat next to her.

"I mean she is attractive, she can get any other man but she wants Brandon and I have no idea why."

"She fell in love with him." I told her, looking at her. Daphne's eyes widen for a second. "You really think so?" She asked trying to keep her jaw attach.

"What else would it be? Why would she act this way after being dumped?"

"But he only saw her as a bang buddy."

"You have met Brandon, he is attractive, funny, and every girl's dream on two legs. Why not fall in love with him?"

"You like Brandon." Daphne suddenly said making me look at her.

"How did you come up with that assumption?" I asked.

"The way you talk about him and come on. It wasn't even a day and he was already talking to you."

"You think he broke up with her because of me?"

"I just think you stirred something inside of him, maybe he has a heart after all."

"Don't be ridiculous." I told her.

"I'm not. I am just stating the facts. Why leave her after he met you? And why all of a sudden is he all around you and interested in what you do?"

"Maybe she didn't spark an interest in him and he only saw an easy girl."

"Yeah and maybe you spark interest because you are a complete opposite of her."

"Of course I am the total opposite of her." I agreed.

"And maybe that's why Brandon is interested in you."

"That's bullshit." I denied it.

"Are you denying that there is any chance of you and Brandon being interested in each other?"

"Basically yeah."

"Hmm, I never took you for a liar."

"Then you obviously don't me." She quirked an eyebrow at my comment but stayed quiet.

I kept on rejecting the thought of Brandon being interested in me, my life was too screwed up to let anyone in. Maybe everyone thought I had my life together when I didn't as everything was falling apart.
