"Lady Yanis, are you awake?"
Sophia's voice came from outside the door.
"Yes," Yanis replied, opening the door. "What's the matter, Sophia?"
As Sophia saw the hickeys on Yanis' neck, she hesitated to speak.
Yanis quickly tightened the collar of her pajamas, recalling the events from last night. "Sophia, I'll come downstairs after getting dressed."
Sophia nodded. "Mrs. Thompson is waiting for you downstairs."
Yanis acknowledged and returned to her room after Sophia left.
Her clothes were ready in the closet, so she quickly got dressed after taking a shower and went downstairs.
In the living room, only Catherine was sitting at the table, with Sophia standing by.
"Grandma."
Catherine looked up at Yanis. "Do you still have a headache?"
Yanis paused for a moment before gently shaking her head. "No."
"Zane said you were drunk and had a headache last night, so he asked us not to wake you up. I was concerned, so I sent Sophia to check on you."
Yanis hadn't expected Zane to say that, so she quickly replied, "I won't drink so much in the future."
Catherine nodded. "It's fine at home, but be cautious when you're out."
Yanis assured her.
"Bring some porridge for Yanis."
Sophia nodded and brought a bowl of porridge from the kitchen. "Lady Yanis, porridge is good for your stomach."
Yanis thanked Sophia and finished the porridge in front of Catherine.
Afterward, Catherine chatted with Yanis for a while, avoiding any mention of the divorce.
When Yanis was ready to leave, Sophia walked her to the door. "Lady Yanis."
Yanis turned to face Sophia and spoke gently, "Sophia, please don't call me 'Lady Yanis' anymore. Just use my first name or 'Yanis' instead."
Sophia sighed. "Lady Yanis, I believe Master Zane cares about you. Please reconsider the divorce!"
As a nurserymaid in the Lawrence family, Sophia was not in a position to say much, but after witnessing what had happened over the years, she couldn't help herself.
Yanis listened to Sophia's words and smiled. "Sophia, Zane doesn't care about me at all."
"But..."
"Sophia, as an adult, I need to face reality."
With that, Yanis hugged Sophia. "I'll be leaving now. My friend is coming to pick me up."
As she got up, Yanis messaged Bonnie.
Coincidentally, Bonnie had just parked her car in front of the Lawrence's Mansion. "Yanis."
Yanis turned to look at Bonnie sitting in the car and then glanced back at Sophia. "Goodbye, Sophia."
Though Sophia still referred to her as "Lady Yanis", Yanis smiled and waved at her before getting into Bonnie's car.
As soon as Yanis got in, Bonnie drove away, pressing on the gas pedal hard.
"Are you in a rush?" Yanis asked, fastening her seatbelt.
Bonnie responded as she merged onto the highway, "Did you have a fight with Zane?"
Hearing Bonnie's question, Yanis furrowed her brows and replied, "I didn't fight with him, and I can't bear to talk to him..."
"Yanis!"
Before Yanis could finish her sentence, Bonnie interrupted her, her expression serious as she asked, "When did Neve return?"
Yanis' expression froze upon hearing that. "You saw her?"
Bonnie snorted and spoke through gritted teeth, "I wasn't the only one who saw her. Everyone in Manches City knows about it!"
It took a moment for Yanis to recover, and she whispered, "I think she came back the night before last."
"And what now? What are you going to do?"
Yanis leaned against the seat, gazing out the car window.
After a long silence, Yanis finally said, "Bonnie, we're getting a divorce."
Bonnie couldn't help but exclaim in a low voice, "Has Zane gone crazy?"
"You were so determined to marry him before, and you even cut ties with your family. I thought he would eventually be moved by your devotion. I never expected him to be so heartless! What a jerk!"
Bonnie asked, "So, he's fallen in love with Neve again?"
"Not exactly. He's always had feelings for Neve even though she had been going abroad all these years. Now, they're finally together."
"And what about you? How much do you matter to him?"
Yanis remained calm, her voice steady. "I'm insignificant in his eyes."
Bonnie was incensed by Yanis' words. "I'll take you to confront him. I'll ask him why he's so heartless!"
"Bonnie, I'm tired." Yanis' tone was composed. "I just want to do what I want now."
Bonnie was furious. "You've been serving him like a nanny for five years, and all for nothing!"
"I chose this path."
"Nonsense! I..."
Before Bonnie could finish her sentence, Yanis' phone began ringing.
It was Zane calling!
Yanis looked at the caller ID on the screen and hesitated. Just as she was about to answer, Bonnie grabbed the phone and answered it angrily.
On the other end, Zane's voice was calm but expressionless. "Yanis, have you seen..."
"Of course! Everyone has seen Neve! Zane, you should be ashamed of yourself! Do you know what Yanis has done for you? Do you know how much she has suffered for you?"
"For five years, she's served you like a nanny, and now you toss her aside as soon as your first love returns. You're the most despicable man I've ever known."
Before Zane could finish speaking, Bonnie interjected, "Go find your first love! Leave Yanis alone! She's much better than you think!"
With that, Bonnie hung up the phone!
Yanis looked at Bonnie, dumbfounded. "Bonnie, you..."
Bonnie tossed the phone back to Yanis and declared, "He deserved it. You don't have to be so subservient!"
Yanis took the phone, but before she could say anything, it rang again. It was still Zane.
Seeing this, Bonnie tried to take the phone, but Yanis stopped her. "I'll answer it myself."
Then Yanis answered the call.
"Bonnie, give the phone back to Yanis!" Zane's voice was angry on the other end.
Yanis responded, "This is Yanis speaking."
