Chapter 4: I Don’t Love Him Now

What Yanis said carried a biting sarcasm aimed at both Zane and Neve.

But Neve wasn't as simple and naive as Yanis assumed.

As Yanis finished her taunting words, Neve, seated in the back seat, calmly spoke up, "Zane, you said you were going to finalize the divorce with Miss Thompson after dinner, right?"

Yanis glanced up at Zane, who was driving, upon hearing this.

It seemed that Zane was annoyed by Yanis' mocking remarks about Neve.

As a result, his face turned livid.

Nevertheless, Zane's tone remained gentle as he replied to Neve, "Tomorrow."

It was a brief response, but Yanis understood its meaning.

After the dinner, the divorce would be finalized tomorrow.

A silence filled the car.

In just a few minutes, they arrived at Lawrence's Mansion.

Yanis didn't expect Zane to open the door for her, so when the car came to a stop, she unbuckled her seat belt and got out.

To her surprise, Zane didn't open the door for Neve either; instead, he walked towards Yanis. "You'd better watch your tongue in front of Grandma."

"Did you inform her about the divorce?"

Zane's eyebrows furrowed. "You don't need to worry about that."

Yanis nodded. "Got it."

"Zane!"

Neve's voice came from behind them.

Yanis looked at Zane and walked towards the door.

But Zane grasped her wrist. "Don't forget that you are still my wife, so be careful with what you say or do."

Yanis was about to reply when Neve approached. "Zane, I'm feeling a little unwell."

Zane didn't release Yanis but responded gently, "You can go inside, and I'll take you to rest later."

Neve nodded. "Alright."

After ringing the doorbell, Yanis, as usual, hooked her arm through Zane's.

As the door opened, Sophia, the Lawrence family's housekeeper, greeted Zane and Yanis respectfully.

"Good evening, Master Zane and Lady Yanis."

"Good evening, Sophia."

Sophia stepped aside to let them in and said, "Please come in, Old Mrs. Lawrence has been waiting for you for a while."

Once Zane and Yanis entered, Sophia caught sight of Neve standing in the doorway. "Miss Bennett?"

Neve offered a sweet smile to Sophia. "Sophia, it's been a while."

Sophia nodded, a bit bewildered. "Yes, it has."

Quickly regaining her composure, Sophia warmly welcomed Neve.

As Zane and Yanis proceeded, a mocking voice reached their ears. "I thought you wouldn't grace us with your presence at dinner this time."

The speaker was Phoebe Lawrence, Zane's cousin.

Yanis maintained her smile. "Zane is to blame. He refused to come without me."

Phoebe snorted, her eyes shifting to Neve with a sneer. "You're truly docile. Your husband brought his former sweetheart here."

Yanis let go of Zane's hand and looked at Phoebe. "Regardless of who he brings, I am his legal wife."

"Enough of this bickering in my house!"

Lucia, Zane's mother, intervened and approached them. "Yanis, it's normal for men to be involved with other women. As Zane's wife, you should be more tolerant."

Yanis smiled and nodded. "Of course."

Satisfied with Yanis' response, Lucia turned her attention to Neve with a smile. "Neve, it's been a while."

Neve moved closer and hugged Lucia. "Auntie Lucia, I've missed you so much."

While Lucia had always favored Neve, Catherine, Zane's grandmother, looked down on her.

In Catherine's eyes, Neve lacked the elegant air that Yanis possessed, and she strongly disapproved of Zane being with Neve.

Zane went to the study to speak with Edison Lawrence, his grandfather, first whenever he came back.

As a result, while Lucia was talking to Neve, Zane headed to the study.

The living room was filled with other relatives.

Seeing Neve, they all flattered her.

Neve eventually entered Catherine's room.

"I heard Zane brought Neve here?" Catherine looked at Yanis and inquired.

Yanis nodded. "Yes, Grandma. Actually, Neve..."

"Seriously? Are you going to plead her case and make me accept her relationship with Zane?"

Before Yanis could finish her sentence, Catherine interrupted her.

Yanis shook her head. "Grandma, I am not that understanding."

Catherine looked at Yanis with a tinge of pity. "You are too forgiving. If you were a bit tougher, Zane wouldn't dare to cross the line. Back then, if it weren't for you, he..."

"Grandma." Yanis gently cut Catherine off. "I willingly married him. It had nothing to do with him, and later, I set him up. He is innocent."

Yanis looked Catherine in the eyes and added softly, "Grandma, I am here to bid farewell to you today. I may not be able to visit you frequently in the future. After all, it's time for me to move on."

Catherine's expression changed upon hearing this. "What? Are you really stepping aside for Neve?"

Yanis forced a bitter smile and leaned closer to Catherine, resting her chin on Catherine's knee. "Grandma, I am exhausted and ready to let go."

Upon hearing this, Catherine raised her hand and gently patted Yanis' head. "As long as my husband and I don't agree, he won't dare to do anything."

"You don't have to do that, Grandma. I can't always rely on you. I failed to win his heart in five years, which means he truly dislikes me."

"He is too blind and foolish."

Yanis couldn't help but chuckle. "Grandma, please, for my sake, don't corner Zane tonight."

Catherine sighed. "You are too lenient with him."

"I couldn't help it. I loved him."

"Then why do you intend to give up?"

Yanis held back her tears and smiled at Catherine. "I used to love him until last night."

Last night, after Yanis asked that question, Zane left without any hesitation.

After Zane opened the door and left Yanis alone in the bedroom, Yanis faced reality.

She stopped loving him.

Catherine patted Yanis' head tenderly. "Zane doesn't deserve you."

Meanwhile, in the study, Edison sighed.

Edison playfully hit Zane on the shoulder with his cane. "You don't deserve Yanis!"
