Chapter 5: Let's Get a Divorce

As dinner commenced, Yanis carried out her usual role of helping Zane with food and tissues, attending to his every need with great care.

"Zane!"

Yanis called out suddenly, passing him a tissue.

Zane smiled and turned to her. "What's the matter?"

In front of the Lawrences, Zane always treated Yanis with tenderness.

Although he was affectionate towards Neve, he showed even greater gentleness to Yanis.

Yanis took a glass, poured some wine, and then filled Zane's glass.

"We've never toasted together. Let's do it tonight."

Zane furrowed his brows. "Stop this nonsense."

Yanis looked at him with earnest eyes. "I'm serious."

Having said that, Yanis stood up and gazed at the crowd in the room. "I have an announcement to make."

Everyone's attention focused on Yanis as she raised her glass. "Tonight may be the last time I'm here as Zane's wife, as we will be getting a divorce tomorrow."

Yanis' words shocked the room.

Lucia looked at Yanis, then at Zane. "Zane, what's happening?"

Though Lucia had anticipated the divorce between Yanis and Zane, she had to remain composed in front of the others.

Clearly, Zane was caught off guard by Yanis' public announcement.

"Yanis!" Zane looked displeased. "What are you trying to do?"

Yanis smiled at Zane. "I've just come to realize that I don't love you as much as I thought I did. So, I don't want to be with you anymore. Let's get a divorce."

Though deeply saddened, Yanis refrained from making things too difficult for Zane in front of his family.

"Yanis, what do you mean by that? Has Zane mistreated you?" Phoebe asked in a stern voice, looking at Yanis.

Yanis replied, "No, he's been very kind to me, but I don't love him anymore. I've developed feelings for someone else!"

Phoebe was taken aback, and even Zane looked at Yanis in disbelief.

Yanis didn't pay attention to anyone else but held her glass. "I'd like to propose a toast to all of you for taking care of me over the past five years."

With that, Yanis raised her head and finished the wine in her glass.

She then placed the glass back on the table. "Now, please enjoy yourselves. I should be going."

The room fell silent, and even Catherine and Edison, who had always supported Yanis, remained speechless.

"Yanis!" Catherine called out as Yanis turned to leave.

Yanis turned back to look at Catherine. "Grandma?"

Catherine gestured toward Yanis' seat. "Even if it's the last time we dine together, you're still my granddaughter-in-law tonight."

Yanis was slightly taken aback.

Catherine seemed a little upset. "Do you want me to beg you to sit down?"

Yanis immediately shook her head. "Of course not."

Yanis sat back down.

However, she felt a little dizzy and furrowed her brows.

"Come with me. I want to talk to you."

As soon as Yanis was seated, Zane stood up, turned around, and headed straight upstairs.

Yanis remained in her seat.

Edison spoke, "Just follow him and clarify everything. End things properly."

With a smile, Yanis stood up, turned around, and followed Zane upstairs.

In Lawrence's Mansion, Zane and Yanis had their own bedroom.

Whenever they stayed overnight, they shared a bed.

Yanis used to look forward to coming to Lawrence's Mansion so they could sleep together, even though Zane was reluctant.

Yanis followed Zane through the door.

Once inside, Zane locked the door, turned around, and pressed Yanis against it. "Yanis, did you plan this all along?"

Yanis couldn't handle too much alcohol, and a glass of wine was her limit.

Now, she was drunk.

Yanis looked into Zane's angry eyes and smiled, "Don't worry. I was the one who brought up the divorce. Grandma won't blame you."

Zane sneered, "Yanis, you always enjoy theatrics."

Yanis pushed Zane away and said, "Yes, I planned it. I wanted everyone to think I was always the victim and be angry with you!"

"Yanis!" Zane approached, his eyes filled with anger. "You said you have feelings for someone else. Who is it?"

"It's none of your business." Yanis struggled to push Zane away again, but her strength was fading, and it seemed like she was flirting with him.

Zane pulled her close and threw her onto the bed. "Yanis, how shameless you are!"

On the bed, Yanis felt even dizzier and lightheaded.

"Zane, did you think I would love no one but you?"

Yanis weakly struck Zane's chest, but he didn't feel any pain.

"Without you, I can find many men who are much better than you..."

Before Yanis could finish her words, Zane silenced her with a kiss.

Yanis tried to resist, but her strength failed her.

She knew what she should do, but she was captivated by the intoxication.
