Chapter 8: Jaida Crawford

"Sweetheart, if you have thought it through, I will bless you. But I still hope you can be happy and not let my failed marriage affect you."

Her daughter was always determined, and no one could change her mind since she was a child.

After learning about Amaya's marriage, Lana began to nag about what kind of person Jaylan was and suggested Amaya bringing him over to meet her.

Amaya agreed to everything and planned to mention it to him when he came to pick her up for the old house the day after tomorrow.

Amaya walked out of the inpatient department and slowly squatted on the ground, her shoulders shaking as tears began to fall uncontrollably.

She didn't know what the future held, but at this moment, she felt relieved seeing her mother gradually recovering and could finally breathe deeply.

That evening, as Amaya just came out of the operating room, she saw a sexy woman with bright red lips leaning against the door.

This beautiful woman was her senior and the obstetrician at the hospital, as well as her best friend, Jaida Crawford.

But wasn't she supposed to be helping at the branch hospital? Why was she here?

"Oh, dear, you're finally done. I've been waiting for you so long I'm starving," Jaida walked over and hung on Amaya, acting coquettishly.

"Move your ample bosom away before talking," Amaya glanced with resignation at the chest rubbing against her arm.

"No fun," Jaida muttered as she reluctantly moved away.

"Aren't you at the branch hospital? Why are you here?"

"How could I stay in that remote small city forever? There are so many handsome guys in Atheria; I had to come back," Jaida answered without hesitation.

She had been at the branch hospital for half a year. Not only was it far from the city center, but there were no handsome guys to feast her eyes on—just old men or kids who hadn't grown up yet.

Most importantly, there was no spicy hotpot she loved!

"Let's go, dear, I'll treat you to dinner!" With that, she dragged Amaya away with great enthusiasm.

In fact, they not only had dinner but also did a spa and were now shopping.

When girls go out, they eat, drink, shop, and buy things.

"What should I wear to meet the parents?"

Jaida paused for a moment when Amaya asked.

"Are you going to meet Adam's parents?" Jaida had opposed Amaya being with Adam from the start, feeling he wasn't a good person.

"No, we broke up half a month ago. He cheated with Aubree," Amaya said calmly.

She hadn't told Jaida about this before; otherwise, with her personality, she would have rushed over to deal with Adam.

"What?"

"I knew it! I always felt something was off with those two! They're both scum!"

Jaida was holding a dress and started cursing on the spot upon hearing this.

Amaya couldn't help but facepalm at her reaction. She knew this would happen and shouldn't have told her here.

After apologizing to the sales clerk, she quickly dragged Jaida outside and found a café. She explained how she discovered the cheating and her mother's medical expenses and mentioned her plan to marry Jaylan.

Jaida shook Amaya excitedly. "Dear, pinch me; I must be dreaming."

"Oh my, your husband," Jaida pointed at the large screen in the café broadcasting a financial news channel.

On the screen, a man in a suit was being interviewed. His features were sharp, his nose high-bridged with gold-rimmed glasses, exuding a calm and confident aura. This kind of demeanor only came from someone who was absolutely self-assured.

He spoke eloquently about the interview questions, full of vigor and charm that seemed to overflow from the screen.

Even the girls at the next table were swooning over him.

This man was irresistibly attractive.

"Dear, how did you get so lucky to marry such a man? A rich and handsome diamond bachelor; no one in Atheria can compare."

"I'm jealous," Jaida grumbled as she angrily forked a piece of cake and chewed it.

Amaya's mouth twitched as she silently sipped her coffee.

"I'm going to his house for dinner tomorrow. So will you help me pick out an outfit?" she asked calmly.

"Right. I almost forgot. Let's get you an outfit that will make Jaylan unable to take his eyes off you."

"I'll call him to see if I need to bring anything," Amaya said as she took out her phone and dialed an unfamiliar number after hesitating for a moment.

Jaylan was still working overtime at the company. He had just finished a meeting and was relaxing in his chair when his desk phone rang. Even without any notes, he knew who it was.

Loosening his tie, he answered calmly.

"What's up?" His deep voice came through the receiver.

"Are you busy?" Amaya asked tentatively upon hearing his slightly tired voice.

"Yes. What's wrong?" People in their positions had greater responsibilities; they always had endless work and meetings despite their glamorous appearances.

"I wanted to ask if I need to bring anything when I come over for dinner tomorrow?"

"No need. Just bring yourself," Jaylan replied, rubbing his temples wearily.

"Alright then. Take care," she pretended to care before hanging up.

It made sense; the Hancock family lacked nothing and didn't need her to bring anything as someone with nothing to offer.

After shopping with Jaida for a while longer, she bought an off-shoulder white knit dress. Her skin was fair, and her collarbones were beautiful. The sales clerk kept complimenting how good it looked on her. It indeed made her look more feminine.

Originally planning to spend more time with Jaida, she was sent back to the hospital early under the pretext of needing beauty sleep for meeting the parents tomorrow.

Friday arrived quickly. With nothing much to do in the afternoon, Amaya left work early.

Back at the staff dormitory, she packed her clothes and essentials for moving into Jaylan's place tonight. She also prepared for meeting his parents by taking a shower, applying light makeup, and wearing the dress she bought yesterday with a coat over it, simple yet appropriate for meeting parents.

At 5:30 PM sharp, Jaylan appeared downstairs.

From afar, he saw Amaya standing at the entrance with her suitcase waiting for him.
