Chapter 4: Charity Dinner

"Okay." She nodded and agreed readily, secretly relieved that the deal was sealed.

With a two-month buffer period, no one would find it strange when they got married.

Half a month passed just like that. Today, Amaya had performed an eight-hour surgery, leaving her exhausted and sore. As soon as she turned on her phone, she saw five missed calls from unknown numbers.

A woman's intuition told her it was Jaylan calling.

After hesitating for a moment, she decided to call back.

After a while.

"Hello." A deep, lazy male voice came through the receiver.

"Jaylan?" She was already certain it was him upon hearing the voice, but she still asked cautiously.

"Yes, it's me." Jaylan frowned on the other end of the line.

"I just got off the operating table and saw several missed calls. What's up?" Someone as cold as him wouldn't call without a reason.

"Accompany me to a charity dinner tonight."

"Sure, prepare an outfit and a stylist for me." She couldn't refuse after taking eight hundred thousand dollars from him.

"Come down, I'm at the entrance."

He was at the hospital entrance? She thought she misheard: "Huh?"

"Come down!" Jaylan's impatient tone made her jump up immediately. She hurriedly changed clothes and ran downstairs without even putting on a coat. Judging by his impatient tone, he had probably been waiting for a while, and she couldn't afford to make him angry.

Jaylan saw Amaya walking out of the hospital lobby through the car window. This woman... how many days had it been since she last tidied herself up? It was the first time a woman had come to see him looking like this. It was... interesting.

As she got closer, he honked the horn.

"Get in."

Amaya, standing in front of the car, was startled. Just as she was about to curse, she saw Jaylan's handsome face through the lowered car window.

She gritted her teeth and glared at him. This man did it on purpose!

But she couldn't lose her temper. She got into the car angrily and slammed the door shut to express her dissatisfaction.

Jaylan wasn't annoyed by her angry expression. He spoke slowly, "This car is one of only two in the world."

Amaya instantly felt deflated. If she damaged the door of this limited-edition car, she couldn't afford to pay for it even if she sold herself.

She asked weakly, "Where are we going?"

Jaylan glanced at her with undisguised disdain in his eyes.

"To a place where you'll be transformed into a woman."

She suddenly remembered that she had just come off the operating table and hadn't had time to freshen up before running down to meet him after making a call.

She looked in the mirror and was almost scared by her own reflection. Who was this person with a tired face and bloodshot eyes?

"I... I just finished an eight-hour surgery and didn't have time to freshen up. I'm not usually like this..." Although this explanation seemed feeble.

Jaylan snorted lightly and ignored her, focusing on driving instead.

Half an hour later, they arrived outside an inconspicuous villa.

"Follow me." Jaylan impatiently reminded Amaya, who seemed to be daydreaming again.

Amaya snapped out of it and hurriedly followed him inside.

As soon as they entered, Jaylan pushed her towards a flamboyant stylist and his assistants.

"Make her presentable."

Immediately, countless hands started working on her face, hair, and body. It all felt like a dream, and she even fell asleep several times. When she came to her senses again, she was standing with Jaylan at the entrance of a hotel banquet hall.

She wore a yellow strapless tulle gown with yellow diamond earrings accentuating the details. Her makeup was elegant yet sophisticated, making her look even more radiant and stunning.

Amaya glanced at the man beside her. His impeccably tailored suit made him look tall and dignified. He stood there so casually, yet he commanded attention without needing to say a word.

Just standing there together, they attracted everyone's gaze.

The single women at the event had their eyes shining as soon as they saw Jaylan. Amaya shivered under those intense gazes; it felt like these women were wolves eyeing their prey when they looked at Jaylan.

As soon as Jaylan, the head of Hancock Group, arrived, various people began to approach him with flattery. He was a symbol of power; everyone hoped to gain his favor and secure business deals with Hancock Group.

Amaya spent the entire time smiling until her face felt stiff.

Finally finding an opportunity to sneak into a corner for a breather, trouble found her instead.

Seeing Aubree intimately holding Adam's arm as they approached, she couldn't help but roll her eyes.

Adam had noticed her as soon as she entered with Jaylan. The thought that she had found someone new right after their breakup and looked so radiant infuriated him. He walked over and immediately began to mock her. "I wondered who Mr. Hancock's companion was; isn't it Dr. Moreno?"

Amaya frowned inwardly; Adam's sarcastic tone was extremely unpleasant.

"Amaya, you mustn't fall so low. If you need money, I can lend it to you," Aubree quickly added.

Amaya just wanted to find a place to rest for a while but now realized that wasn't possible. She prepared to walk away from them; she was too tired to argue tonight.

But Adam blocked her path. "Do you really think someone like Jaylan would be interested in you? He's just playing with you. For your mother's sake, you should come back to me."

Amaya couldn't believe how low Adam could stoop. She must have been blind before!

Taking a deep breath to stay calm, she refuted, "Whether he's playing with me or not is none of your business. We broke up long ago; stop bothering me or I'll be rude."

"Hah, Amaya, you used to act so pure. Now you're just someone else's plaything?" Adam couldn't accept it. When they were together, she never let him go further; now she was someone else's woman.

"Your friend?" A tight grip on her waist signaled Jaylan's arrival at her side.

Adam also noticed him. As a man with high dignity, he had to admit that Jaylan's innate aloofness and nobility made him feel inferior.

Seeing Jaylan's possessive hold on Amaya's waist made Adam almost go mad with jealousy.

Aubree's eyes lit up when she saw Jaylan, this handsome and wealthy business genius. How lucky could Amaya get?

Adam stepped forward first and extended his hand, "Hello, Mr. Hancock, I'm Adam Shaw."

Amaya felt his introduction was incomplete and deliberately added for Jaylan, "This is Adam Shaw and Aubree Randolph—one is my ex-boyfriend, and the other is my best friend who I caught cheating together recently."

The two people opposite instantly turned black-faced.

"Mr. Hancock, don't be fooled by this woman's appearance. When she was with me, she played around a lot; who knows how many men she's been with," Adam sneered.

"Adam, shut your filthy mouth! If I hear another word slandering me, I'll tear your mouth apart!" Amaya's chest heaved with anger; she couldn't suppress it any longer.

She tightly gripped Jaylan's arm to keep herself from fainting in rage.

It seemed there was no limit to how disgusting someone could be.

"You’re in no place to judge my fiancée," Jaylan said firmly, staring at Adam with his chin slightly raised. His dark eyes gradually darkened with anger, and his thin lips pressed into a hard line.
