Chapter Three

Disappointed was an understatement when it came to debriefing Camila's current emotions. She was practically in a pool of mixed feelings. She wanted to cry, scream, beg, basically every thing a child would do if they were throwing a fit. Camila swore that if she weren't the 23 year old that she were today - according to her birth certificate - she would throw a tantrum right then and there.

"N-No? I'm sorry but...may I ask why?"

The waitress shrugs her shoulders, moving around the stunned latina who fought the urge to admire the roundness and prefect shape of Y/n's ass.

"My songs are like my secrets. They'll be heard if I want them to be heard."

"Please, if you would just consider-"

"I'm really sorry, but I can't. Like my dad said before, we're closing."

Camila wanted to act upon her obvious anger and frustration but Y/n's calm and gentle tone made her think twice about doing so. The only emotion she could properly display tonight was, devastation. Camila knew that there was no other way of persuading the waitress to pass over at least one song.

"I can't even buy one off of you?" Camila chuckles, hoping to ease the obvious tension she had created. Obvious tension as in the rejection she had just experienced.

"These songs are my life, my stories- my experiences. Money can't buy that. I applaud your persistence though."

Sighing as the waitress disappears passed the walls of the kitchen, Camila found herself both flustered and struck. All she could think about was how beneficial those songs could have been to her career. Although Y/n had refused Camila's offers to somewhat buy the songs, a sudden yet unsettling idea managed to cross her mind. The words,

"My songs are like my secrets. They'll be heard if I want them to be heard." seemed to haunt her, but in a good way.

The waitress herself said that her songs were like her secrets and were only to be heard if she wanted to? What would that mean for the song Camila had heard earlier that night? If the song Y/n had sung was a secret she wanted to be heard, why couldn't Camila take matters into her hands and let it be?

EVEN THOUGH THE STATEMENT may have been blown out of proportion, Camila couldn't stop herself from pulling out a guitar and settling a pick between the pad of her thumb and index finger.

Was it wrong to already be in the process of recreating Y/n's song in Camlia's image? probably. However, Y/n's reaction was the last thing on Camila's mind as her pick strums the strings of her guitar, sending sensational vibrations to her ears.

While editing the jewel in a popularly used music editor, Camila couldn't help but wonder what/who the song had been originally written about. The lyrics seemed pretty specific that it was written about a boy. But who? If there were a word to describe how Camila felt while editing the song, it would definitely be jealousy. Not because she wished to be the one the song had been about, but more of how she wished to be loved in such a way. Camila had never been in a relationship strong enough for someone to express their love for her in a form of art. That was another thing Camila realised about Y/n's work. It was art. Even though Camila didn't get to experience much of Y/n's talent, it was clear to her of how powerful her lyrics had an influence on her. Art was special, it had the ability to toy with the mind, to give the beholder a challenge. Camila's challenge...who was the song about?

"Camila?"

Eyes widening at the unexpected voice, Camila shuts her laptop out of reflex and removes the crimson headphones from her head hastily.

"Shawn? What are you doing here? It's late."

Although telling Shawn that she had been working on a new song would bring not only him but Camila's whole label over the moon, Camila knew Shawn would be against the idea once he knew who wrote it.

"It's 8am..."

Camila's eyes widen in shock when the time had slipped her mind. She hadn't realised till now that she had been up all night finishing the song.

"Shit! Roger will be here any minute!" Camila rushes as she fixes up the area around her that had been covered in instruments and loose papers.

"What have you been- are you writing a new song!?" Shawn exclaims in complete surprise, earning an eye roll from a distressed Camila.

"Don't sound so surprised." Camila huffs, watching alarmingly as Shawn picks up a slip of paper with lyrics that were not Camila's.

For the second time this morning, Camila's eyes had widened on edge. Out of all people that were in Camila's inner circle, Shawn was the only one she did not want listen to her song.

Snatching the paper out of the confused Canadians grip, Camila gives Shawn a nervous smile before holding the sheet of paper close to her chest.

"Am I not allowed to see what you've written?" Shawn asks skeptically.

Judging by Camila's suspiciousness and her obvious edgy behaviour, Shawn couldn't help but speculate his suspicions. Of course he would never think of Camila taking another persons song without their permission, but then again, Camila wasn't a very open person. Well...lately she hasn't been.

"N-No- I mean...not yet?" Camila elicits, trying to keep her composure in hopes of no further conversation into the subject.

Suddenly Camila could feel herself relax when Shawn shrugs in understanding.

Having pulled the "It's a surprise." card on Camila in the past, gave him enough reason not to push the subject.

"Okay then...I actually came here to ask if you wanted to come get breakfast at that restaurant we went to last night- for breakfast! Not because I want to see the hot waitress again..." The Canadian chuckles nervously, scratching the back of his neck as it became a habit in the mention of Y/n.

"I would love to..." Camila mumbles, internally against the idea of going back. "but if I want to get this song out to the world, I need to take a rain check. Sorry, buddy."

Shawn wanted to show his disappointment on his features but didn't have the chance when he felt Camila pushing him towards the door against his will.

"How about lunch then?"

"Won't be done by then."

"Dinner?" Shawn urges, stopping at the door to somewhat try and reason with his best friend to accompany him.

Shawn knew that being in the presence of Y/n alone would sure wreck his ego as he was a terrible conversationalist. He was hoping Camila's company would somehow ease any tension.

Biting her lip as she looks down at the floor of her apartment, Camila comes up with an idea in her head that would hopefully benefit her in the future.

"Fine, dinner. But you owe me."

"Anything you say, I will do. I'll see you tonight."

As Shawn departs from Camila's apartment, Camila knew she only had a matter of hours to get this song perfected and released before tonight.

Camila didn't know for sure, but she had a feeling that if she played her cards smart tonight, she could end up with the rest of Y/n's songs in no time.
