Chapter 4

Roaming around the halls of Western Bridge High School is definitely different from that of an all-girls school. Especially if you see a couple making out like this is the end of the world in the hallways.

My disgusted face turn into a smile when I see a familiar face in the hallway that I could talk to.

"Hi, Naomi." I approach her while she's putting her stuff in her locker.

"So, do people just make out wherever they want? Does the principal not care or what?" I ask, trying to keep the conversation alive.

Instead of replying, she glares at me and shut her locker with a slam. I jump a little in surprise. Naomi walks away and I'm once again left alone with nobody to talk to. Note to self: Tell Stephanie to come to school early so I won't be alone.

"Why are you such loner? Need some friends?" Brent jokes as he leans against Naomi's locker.

"Nope, I'm actually the life of the party whenever you're not watching." I retort.

"Hilarious." Brent say referring to yesterday. I scoff.

"What do you have first period?" I ask.

"Why? Seemed me shirtless once and you want to stalk me now?"

I chuckle, "Don't be such a conceited douche. The world doesn't revolve around you."

He points at me, "See, that's where you're wrong. It actually does." I sneer at him. He smirks a jaw dropping smirk and all I want to do is wipe that off his egotistical face.

The bell rings.

"See you around." Brent ruffle up my hair and walk away before I could say anything.

I watch as he walks further down the hallway and turn around the corner before deciding to go to class. Since the school has alternative schedules, my first period class for today is apush. Yay history! Not.

History class will be the death of me.

-

"Remember to read the online article and we'll discuss more about the N-word and lynching next class." Mr. Evans, my history 30B teacher, informs the class while everyone packs up.

I hate this schedule. As if having apush for first period wasn't enough, I have history 30B for my second period.

I'm just glad that it's lunchtime.

I make my way to the cafeteria and get in line to get my food. I look around the cafeteria and notice Naomi eating alone in the table at the far-right corner. She's always so mad whenever I try to talk to her. What did I ever do to her?

It's my turn to scan my ID so I ignore her and take my ID out to scan it. I grab a tray with teriyaki and rice then head out of the cafeteria to go to the bench.

"Where you headed?" Brent catch up with me in the hallway. I continue walking and Brent walks with me.

"To the field."

"Well, since I'm such a gentleman, I'll escort you out." He smirks and once we reached the door, he opens it for me. I smile and walk out while he follows.

"How's your stomach?" I ask to keep the conversation going. And plus, I was curious.

He paused before replying, "It's just a few bruises and scars. No biggie." My eyebrow raises in suspicion.

"So, are you really not going to tell me why your stomach was injured?"

"If I tell you, will you go out with me?" He asked jokingly - I think.

I look at him to see if he's serious. He wiggles his eyebrows, waiting for my answer.

"I don't even know you." I reply and continue walking.

"Exactly. So why would I tell one of my deep darkest secret to a total stranger?" He says playfully, acting like he has some deep secret. I roll my eyes at him.

"Brent!" A guy of Brent's figure yell at Brent by the school parking lot, gesturing him to go to the guy. I stop and look at him to see if I recognize him. I've seemed him a couple of times in the hallway. Judging from it, he must be Brent's friend.

Brent give him a knowing look before turning back to me. "By the way, none of those words were 'No, Brent. I do not want to go out with you'," he smirks, mimicking my voice before running to the guy.

I chuckle and shake my head at his retreating back before walking to the field. I notice that Taylor and Stephanie were looking at me the whole time when I was talking to Brent. I walk closer to them and see Stephanie's suspicious face and Taylor's worried expression.

"I want all the deets!" Stephanie exclaim causing me to smile at her. I set down my food on the bench and sit down.

"What's his name? How do you know him? What grade is he? Why is he talking to you? Why were you talking to him? What were you guys talking about?" Stephanie blast me with all these questions.

"His name is Brent. He is a senior. I met him at the last party we went to and I have anatomy with him. Also, why can't I talk to other guys?"

"You can. I just don't understand why it's him." Stephanie joke because she's never seen me talk to any guys before except my brothers.

"I am capable of attracting cute guys." I declare. "Why is that so hard to believe?"

Stephanie laugh. "Yeah, 'cute guys'." She air quote. "That Brent guy is far from cute. He's sexy, hot, dangerous, mysterious, and the list goes on. But 'cute' is not a word you use to describe him."

I sigh in defeat, "Okay. Whatever." I pick up my spoon fork and put a mouthful of teriyaki and rice in my mouth.

Stephanie looks at me in questioning. "Wait. You said that you met him at the party?" I nod my head yes.

"Where was I when this happened?" She exclaims.

"Drunk. Eating. In the kitchen." I list.

"Aiden saw you guys." Taylor blurts. I look around to find out where Aiden is and see him talking to Skye on the field.

"And?" I look back at Taylor.

"You still don't know?" She smiles, amused.

"Know what?" Stephanie and I eye her suspiciously.

"Aiden and Brent are like mortal enemies. They've hated each other since like the beginning of time." Taylor explains.

"Okay, bitch, no need to exaggerate." Stephanie say sarcastically.

Taylor roll her eyes, "Okay. They've hated each other since freshman year. That's all I know."

My eyebrows quirk in curiosity. Ummm...

-

"Adios, Avani." A girl in my Spanish class wave bye. I smile and say bye back. I watch as she gets in her car and drive out of the parking lot.

I hate riding home with my brothers. They take so freaking long just to change because they have pe last period and I have to wait for them. I really need to get my license so I can get my own car.

I lean on the car and pull out my phone to play candy crush as I wait for them because lord knows how long I'll have to wait this time.

"Why were you talking to Dawson?" Aiden walk up to me, interrupting my game. I look up at him and stand up straight.

Dawson? Oh, right. Brent Dawson.

"Since when do you care who I talk to?" I retort.

"Since you came to this school."

I roll my eyes. "What's the deal with you and Brent anyway?"

"His father is the chief of police. Just stay away from him. I don't want you causing problems for dad." Aiden warn me.

I let the fact that Brent's dad is the chief of police sink in and give what Aiden said a thought. "There's something else going on, isn't there? You're not the type of person to hate someone just because their fathers are cops. What's going on?" I look at him suspiciously.

He sighs and shake his head in frustration. "Just stay the hell away from Dawson," Aiden warn me with grit teeth.

"Hey, guys." Skye approach us. I give him a smile as he walks the other way and get in the car in the driver's seat. Aiden glance at me before getting in the car too. The engine roars and I get in the backseat.

During the car ride, Aiden was quiet the whole way. Skye knew something was going on between Aiden and I, but he didn't say anything and drive the car like nothing is wrong.

There is definitely something going between Brent and Aiden. I don't mean to be the nosy sister who butts in her brother's every business but I'm going to find out just why Aiden keeps telling me to stay away from Brent. Oh, who am I kidding? I am the nosy sister.
