Bar brat

Essence woke up around two in the morning. She really had to pee and she was hungry, stumbling in the dark she headed to bathroom. Quietly yawning as she sat on the toilet, groaning at how tired she still was. After finishing she washed her hands and headed to the kitchen, grimacing at the bright kitchen lights she turned them off. Essence quietly went into the fridge pulling out a ham sandwich before hopping onto the counter.

She shivered at how cold it was her brown eyes adjusting to the darkness quickly noticing a figure entering the kitchen before the light cut on again. “Why are you eating in the dark?” His voice asked as he moved toward her. “The lights are too bright.” She said her mouth half full with mushed ham sandwich. Mattais raised an eyebrow a small smirk on his face. “Attractive.” He complimented toward her current state of face stuffing. Essence rolled her eyes as she brushed him off lightly swinging her feet back and forth. Covering her mouth as she swallowed she began to speak again. “Where’d you go?” She questioned as she bit into her sandwich again. “While we were out?” She clarified.

Her panic didn’t go unnoticed when he was away, his eyes and ears following her every move even when he wasn’t physically with her. “I was summoned by Lucifer.” Mattais replied simply as he leaned against the counter beside her. “For what?” She pressured wanting to know why it was so sudden and quick. “Nothing to worry your pretty little head about.” He teased causing her to she toss a piece of bread at him. “You can’t keep me out of the loop, if it’s about me I’m obligated to know.” She reminded as she hopped down from the counter. “Whatever you say.” He snorted as she finished her sandwich. He definitely wasn’t telling her that they had a past together, it would only make things worse for her.

She was just starting to understand and accept her current fate, informing her of her past life(s) was one thing but informing her that her past life(s) involved them together for a lifetime was another. Mortals weren’t to be informed of their past life(s), some were special—unique enough to remember it at all.

Essence noticed the longing look in the males eyes as she began to clean the dishes that were starting to pile. “Hey you alright?” She asked as she pulled open the dish washer. “Mattais.” She called a little louder, this caught his attention. “I’m sorry, what is it?” He questioned as he moved toward the sink pushing up his sleeves, was he going to help? “Are you okay? You kind of spaced out.” She said placing her hands in the warm soapy water. “I’m fine, don’t worry about me.” He said as she handed him the first dish of many. She nodded slowly not believing him but not wanting to push it either. Maybe he’d tell her when he was comfortable, if that ever came along.

Essence had dragged the demon male to a local bar just for fun. They once again had been cooped up in the house for days, Mattais seemed to be a very social creature unlike his female counter part. Essence tied her hair into a low bun, the shorter hairs failing to make it into the bun framed her face like always. She was dressed in a cute black floral long sleeve dress that flowed just above her knees, black stockings and suede calf boots. This time she actually wore a winter coat and scarf so she didn’t freeze half to death.

“Do a shot with me?” Essence said smiling toward Mattais, she may have already had one ‘cooler’ and two shots. One more wouldn’t hurt, Mattais thought she was out of her mind for having another. “No way, you don’t need another.” Mattais said grabbing her hands making her giggle. “Please one more, just one.” She laughed as she swayed a little as she stood next to him. “Hey! Can I have two more!” She called to the bartender who smiled in her direction nodding. “Essence..” Mattais warned, the girls cheeks flushed as those familiar chills ran down her spine at him saying her name. “One more won’t kill me.” She said pulling her hands away from his as the bartender brought two more shots. “Enjoy you two.” She said before heading off to tend to other patrons. “Here.” Essence slurred sliding him the glass. Mattais sighed taking it in his hand as Essence took the other. “Ready? Go.” She said throwing her head back, the alcohol burning at it slid down her throat. Slamming the glass on the counter she threw her hands into the air coughing. “What was that about one more not killing you?” Mattais questioned seemingly unfazed by the alcohol. Essence was starting to now feel the alcohol coursing through her body, she started to feel hot and a little woozy yet that didn’t keep the smile from leaving her face. Essence rocked on her feet as Mattais sat on the bar stool watching her with dark copper eyes. “Hey can we dance?” She asked as people filled the small dance floor. “I’m not the dancing type..” he declined as she pouted taking his hand she shook it. “Please, please, please, please-“ she began to beg, her brown eyes twinkling as she tugged his arm.

The male was unmoving as she tried to get him to his feet. “You go, I’ll watch you from here.” He said shaking his head gently un-prying her hand from his arm. “Go, I’ll be right here.” He urged with a small smile. Essence finally gave in and left him alone, slowly dancing her way to the middle of the floor. Her small body, danced like no one watching taking in the music one beat at a time. Her vibe was unmatched, attracting others to come and dance in pairs or alone. Essence felt her world move in slow motion as she danced, their were eyes watching her all around but the ones that mattered the most didn’t seem to want to dance with her. Her hips moved perfectly to the music, her body such a messy grace in the low lights. Soon enough the song ended and she panted softly trudging back to Mattais with heavy feet. “That was good.” He said with a chuckle as she leaned against the bar top flipping him off. “You have to dance with me if they play a slow song.” She said smoothing her dress out as she finally her bottom in a chair, Mattais letting out a silent breath at the action. “Okay I will if it gets you to hush about it.” He cracked causing her to smile.

Mattais held a glass toward her, Essence took it with out hesitation thinking it was more alcohol but it was water instead. Essence immediately handed it back making him laugh. “You need to sober up some, I’m not carry you back home Essence.” Mattais explained as she felt that chill run down her spine again. “Stop doing that.” She mumbled placing her head in her palm as she slumped slightly. “Doing what?” He asked tilting his head, Essence caught his gaze making her bite her lip. “Just shut up.” She rolled her eyes as she turned toward the bar picking at a napkin. Why did he have that effect on her?

“Hey..” he said gently nudging her arm, Essence turned her head lazily toward him. “Slow song.” He said taking her hand and pulling her to her feet. Mattais carefully guided her to the dance floor, Essence wrapped her arms around his neck loosely while he rested his hands on her sides. “Thank you for putting up with me while I’m like this.” Essence said looking up at him, Mattais gazed down at her with a look she couldn’t point out what it was exactly. “Of course, I thought you were hard to handle when sober I was dead wrong.” He joked earning a slap to his arm as she laughed. “Hey, I’m not.” She pouted, Mattais shook his head. “No you’re not. You’re quite easy to keep in check really, I know a few of your weaknesses.” He continued making her raise an eyebrow as they swayed to the soft melody. “Oh yeah? Prove it.” She challenged as she smirked.

Mattais leaned down close to her ear before he murmured her name sweetly. Essence shivered her grip around his neck tightening as he chuckled lowly. “Alright that’s not fair.” She stated a little flustered. “But there’s more..” he said as he ran his hands cautiously down her side stopping at her hips before pulling her in dangerously close, Essence nearly chocking on a gasp. His face falling into her shoulder as he tried to hold back his laugh but failed terribly. “Why are you laughing?” She asked her caramel cheeks a light red as she pulled back to look at him.

The Veni never seen him so joyful, it made her heart flutter. “You’re so easy to fluster, I didn’t even need to do much to get you a blushing mess.” He pointed out still trying to contain his snickers, making her push him away with a huff. “I hate you.” She stated as she crossed her arms walking back to the bar and grabbing her coat and scarf. Essence tossed money on the counter before she shoved her wallet into coat slipping it on. Mattais was left dumbfounded on the dance floor, as he watched her leave the bar in a rush. Was she serious? Sighing he quickly grabbed his own coat and ran to catch up with her.
