Chapter 14 — VIP's Call

"Oh Balqisu it's just a broken ankle, the bunch of bandages are just there to support the wound". Mum uttered, forcing a smile on her face. "Can't you see, I'm even getting much better right now, and soon I will start walking".

"Yes, In Shaa Allah". Dad chimed in.

I only shook my head and took Mum's hand in a warm clasp. "You still should've called and informed me about it, what if something bad ended up happening? Mum you're my mother, I deserve to know everything". I sighed.

"Yes, just like the way I deserve to know why you are here Balqisu". She said, looking straight into my eyes. "I hope it's not a fight or something between you and Abdullahi again?".

That moment I felt like telling her the whole thing, but then I promptly changed my mind due to her unfavorable condition. "Nothing mum, It's just that..." I said halfway as a woman in blue scrubs bounced into the ward.

"Sir, the doctor urgently wants to see you in his office". Said the woman, immediately after greeting dad.

I didn't just know why but my heart suddenly began beating fast, could it be something terrible detected? Oh Lord save my mother, she look so pale. I gulped. "Can I follow you dad?". I asked as soon as he was about leaving.

"No my dear, stay with your mother okey?" He said with a light smile on his face. "I will be back shortly".

And just as I was about opposing him, mum quickly held my hand. "I need you here Balqisu, and so you're staying". She said, and dad only smiled and left.

"But mum, Sani is here". I complained.

"Sani won't help, he's dedicated to playing games with his phone". She said. And that made me glared at the 15 year old boy, who in return gave me a weird smile. Thus, I hissed at him.

"Mum, did you even informed sister Barirah about this?". I asked just as her thought popped into my mind. "Or are you also hiding it from her?".

"Oh come on, why must the whole world know about this small..."

"Mum, she's your eldest child for Allah's sake". I said angrily before unlocking my phone with my index finger. "Let me even call and inform her myself!".

"You this my child ehn!" She lamented.

"I'm amazing right?" I giggled, swiping through my phone. And just as I was about calling sister Barirah, a call bounced in. It was Basheer, Mr truth. "Mum excuse me please, let me go out and pick this call". I stood to my feet.

"Oh, so you can't even pick your husband's call here?". She cluelessly uttered, shaking her head with a smile. "You're really not serious Balqisu".

"Mum, it's not even Abdullah". I gulped, reaching for the door knob. "It's a very important person, I will be back when I'm done" I added, quickly walking out of the ward. And just as I was out, I picked up the call in haste. "AsSalama Alaykum Mr truth, good eve..." I said halfway as he vehemently intruded.

"Balqis I'm really not happy with what you did!". I heard him sighed through the phone. "Why would you leave?".

That moment I was highly disappointed by him, then I thought perhaps he really didn't know exactly what happened between me and Abdullah.

"Balqis I'm asking you, why would you do that? Or do you really think running away would solve the damn..." He said halfway as I intruded.

"Did he told you he got a woman pregnant?". My heart began beating vigorously as I uttered that. I couldn't even stand firmly, so I sat on a bench in the balcony. "Did he?". I asked again.

"I... I don't really understand what you're talking about, Balqis". I heard him stuttered before clearing his throat. "Can you please elaborate?".

"Yes! He impregnated one prostitute girl, Judith Igwe! And he even had the guts to tell me to suit myself when I was about leaving his house". I said with tears already rolling down to my cheeks. "Things like that can hurt you direly for life. And you're asking why I left, well I'm not too weak to stay!".

Silence crept upon us, and just as I was about breaking it he overtook me. "But Abdullah never said that to me. He only told me that you left his house, and that he would divorce you. But I already convinced him not to do that".

"Divorce me?". I angrily blurted out, already breathing heavily like a fire breathing dragon. "You should have let him divorce me now, that would've been better for the both of us". I hissed, and before I could utter another word he ended the call. I dialed his number but was told he was on another call, perhaps with Abdullah.

"Call me when you're done". I texted him, finally deciding to wait for him to finish his call. What pained me the most is Abdullah thinking about divorcing me, and seriously if it is true then I don't really think he still love me. Yes, if he still love me he wouldn't have even thought of doing such thi...

"So this is exactly what happened between you both?". A voice from behind brought me back to reality. It was dad, and he was really angry. "Now I know the reason why I just couldn't believe in your words earlier". He folded his arms around his chest.
