Chapter 11 — Special Effect

In the mythical land of movies, the lovebirds usually sail through any difficulties and end up with a happy ever after. Like, whatever comes their way they'd perfectly fix it. Well, that's not the case in real life. Marriage is never the way we see it in soap operas, and neither it is as perfect as romantic love stories tells us. When I first got married to Abdullah, I thought everything was going to be perfect between us and there wouldn't be ups and downs, I thought whatever undesirable come our way would be fixed perfectly with just a kiss, hug, or things similar to what we do perceive in the television soap operas but I was all wrong!

Abdullah was a strict person who wanted things to be done his own way, I didn't really know that when our marriage was infant until when I began to know him much better. He wasn't hotblooded though but if you don't want to attain his wrath then don't do what he asked you not to. I know if I had not been selfish on the night of the unfortunate event things would've been perfect between us. Though, Alhamdulillah, we are now okey. Things have been well settled by Mama few months ago before she left, but you know our love can hardly return to the status quo ante. I love Abdullah, his love makes me whole. And he loves me too, I believe that but can things ever...

Knock!

Knock!!

Knock!!!

"Yes, come in please". I ordered, adjusting my sitting position in my little office. It was Friday in the morning. I was expecting my new client, Amirah Abdulrahman, when Ajoke showed up. She was acting weirdly. "Any problem?". I asked her.

"No Ma, It's just that I..." She heaved a sigh and continued. "I have something to tell you, It's about your husband". She lowered her gaze while playing with her fingers.

My husband? What could that be? I wondered staring at her. Thus, I asked her to sit in one of the visitors swivel chairs which she calmly did. "So, what is it that you want to tell me about Abdullah? He came and took things again?". I queried.

"No Ma". She blurted out, timorously looking at me with her hand on her neck. She wanted to add more to her words but then she was silent...

If only she knew how eager I was to hear what she had with her!

"Just tell me Ajoke, I have alot of things to take care of". I said, trying to make her talk in time.

"Okey, the thing is..." She cleared her throat and continued. "I actually saw him yesterday in General Hospital with one of our neighbors, she was crying and he was calming her".

"How?". I puzzled. "Elaborate please".

"Okey Ma. When I took permission from you yesterday to go and see Iya mi in the hospital that was when I oversaw your husband with Judith Igwe, she was crying heavily while he was busy calming her". She said.

My heart began beating fast. What could that mean? And what was he even doing with a Christian girl? I wondered. "So you mean you know the girl you saw him with?". I asked, not even knowing what to say.

"Ma, everyone in our area knows Judith Igwe o! We normally call her Miss J, she's unchaste and everyman is her own. She live very close to us and had aborted more than four pregnan..."

"Did you overheard what they were saying?" I intruded, sweating already.

"No Ma. But what I saw can only mean one thing, she's carrying his..."

"Shut up!". I yelled at her. "God forbid! What makes you think that way? And what would my husband even do with a Christian girl? Do you really think my husband is a womanizer?".

"I'm sorry Ma, It's just that..."

"Quiet!". I blurted out. "Now leave my office, leave before I loose my temper on you!". I yelled at her, not believing in what she had spoken. No, It can never be possible. Abdullah would never do such a thing to me! I thought.

"Okey Ma". She stood and left.

Thus, I bended down my head on my table with different thoughts in my mind. If really what Ajoke told me is true then it can only mean what she presumed; the lady is pregnant... But how can it even be possible? Firstly, Abdullah is having problem with his prostate due to his past masturbation habit... And If Mama's herbal mixture have started working for him then why am I not pregnant? Secondly, I've always been fulfilling his sexual desire what then would make him chase outside girls? No, maybe what Ajoke saw was a special effect. But special effect? I wondered.
