Chapter 9: Kay Fainted in Her Office

Water's Edge Estates—

Ivy pushed open the door and saw her son leaning on the sofa, watching cartoons with a serious expression.

Seeing her enter, the little boy ran towards her. "Mommy!"

She hugged her soft and cuddly son, showing a gentle smile. "Ian, were you well-behaved at Henry's house last night?"

"Of course!"

Ivy gently touched his little face. "Good boy, Ian. Mommy will make you some milk."

"Mommy, was I awesome just now?" Ian's face was full of pride, feeling very accomplished.

Thinking about her son's reaction at 'Dawn and Dusk' earlier, she couldn't help but give a thumbs up.

But...

When did he learn to curse?

Ivy's expression suddenly changed. "Ian, when did you learn to say bad words? Who taught you those two words?"

"Uh... Mommy, don't worry about it so much."

The little boy started avoiding her gaze, pretending to watch TV.

She held his chubby little face and seriously told him, "You must not say bad words again. It's not good, and Mommy doesn't like it."

"Okay..."

The little boy observed her expression and then asked, "Mommy, did the uncle we met tonight bully you?"

Uncle?

Was he talking about Dillan?

Ivy smiled. "Why do you say that?"

"I think that uncle is not good. Mommy, stay away from him." Ian's innocent grape-like eyes were so serious.

She couldn't help but laugh at how her son judged his biological father.

"Okay, Mommy will stay away from him. You should also stay away from him. If you see him, walk the other way. Understand?"

The little boy nodded in agreement. "Okay, then Mommy, you should get closer to Uncle Riley."

Riley...

Her son really liked Riley and always said he wanted Riley to be his dad.

Ivy felt a bit helpless and said, "I'll go make you some milk. After drinking it, go to sleep. No more watching TV; it's bad for your eyes."

...

Meanwhile, Kay returned home.

The first thing she did was turn on the recording mode on her phone to listen to what Dillan and Ivy had said earlier.

Kay pressed the play button and listened to the entire recording.

Her face turned extremely ugly. As expected! These two were in contact privately!

And Dillan even took Ivy to meet Grandpa!

What did this mean?

Grandpa already disliked her. Four years had passed, and he still wouldn't accept her, always saying that he only recognized Ivy as his daughter-in-law.

Now that Ivy was back, wouldn't it be even more dangerous for her to marry Dillan?

Old Mr. Zane would definitely try to get Ivy and Dillan back together!

No way!

Absolutely not!

Kay bit her lower lip, full of dissatisfaction. She had to get Dillan and become the young mistress of the Zane family!

...

The next morning.

Equity Law Firm.

This was Ivy's first day at the law firm since returning to the country.

As she was about to enter her office, the secretary walked up and said, “Lawyer Yancey, Miss Kay claims to have an appointment with you. She’s waiting in your office.”

“Miss Kay?”

Ivy looked confused. She’d just returned to the country and was only temporarily handling the Zane Corporation case. Who was this Miss Kay?

"Alright, I understand. I'll go take a look."

Ivy pushed open the office door and indeed saw a woman wearing sunglasses sitting on the sofa in the reception area.

"May I ask who you are..."

The woman took off her sunglasses and raised her head, revealing a heavily made-up face.

It was Kay Judge.

Ivy's expression instantly turned cold. "What are you doing here? Looking for trouble?"

"Ivy, why did you leave so suddenly last night? I still had so much to say to you," Kay said with a fake smile, looking innocent and naive.

Ivy sat across from her on the sofa with a professional demeanor. "Miss Kay, do you have any business with me? It's work time now; let's stick to business."

With Dillan not around, Kay didn't need to pretend to be innocent anymore.

Kay took out a card and placed it on the coffee table. "Ivy, I don't know what your purpose is for coming back this time, but if money can solve it, name your price as long as you stay away from Dillan."

Ha...

"How much is in this card?" she asked.

Kay thought she was tempted. "Ten million."

"Ten million to get rid of me? Is that all Dillan is worth to you? The Zane family is incredibly wealthy," Ivy said with sarcasm.

Kay's eyes widened in surprise. She didn't expect Ivy to say such things.

"Dillan doesn't love you! Otherwise, why would he divorce you? Even if the Zane family is incredibly wealthy, it has nothing to do with you! Don't be too greedy! Ten million is already a lot!"

Ivy chuckled softly. "If that's the case, what are you afraid of?"

"What am I afraid of?" Kay was clearly feeling guilty. She was afraid Dillan would remarry Ivy.

"Then why give me money? Afraid we'll remarry?"

Kay clenched her fists tightly and said angrily, "I don't want to see you entangle with Dillan and affect our relationship! I want you out of Dillan's life!"

"I'd rather you both disappear from my life. If there's nothing else, please leave. I'm very busy."

With that, Ivy couldn't be bothered with this pretentious woman anymore and walked towards her desk.

Kay was furious and stood up angrily. "So you're saying you'll continue to pester Dillan and use Old Mr. Zane's fondness for you to achieve your goal of remarrying him?"

She couldn't believe it.

Why did Kay always think she was the one pestering Dillan?

"So what if I am? If I get Dillan, I'll have the incredibly wealthy Zane family. Why would I care about your ten million card? Take your card and get out! Dillan spoiling you is his business; I have no obligation to indulge you!"

Ivy had just sat down and was about to look at the documents on her desk.

But suddenly, Kay seemed unable to breathe, clutching her chest and pointing at Ivy with trembling fingers. "You...you..."

The next second, Kay collapsed onto the floor with a thud and fainted.

Ivy was stunned by this scene.

Was this real or an act?

Ivy hesitated for a few seconds before getting up and calling out twice, "Miss Kay?"

She noticed that Kay's face was as pale as paper and she lay motionless on the carpet as if she had really fainted.

Ivy panicked a little and quickly took out her phone from her bag to dial 911.

Then she called Dillan. She didn't expect that after four years, Dillan's phone number hadn't changed.

The phone rang a few times before it was answered.

"Who is this?" The man's voice on the other end was low and cold.

"It's me. Your Kay fainted in my office. I'm taking her to the hospital now; you'd better come quickly." She was really speechless; what kind of situation was this?

Sure enough, Dillan on the other end of the line was furious. "Why did she faint in your office? Why are you two together?"

"We'll talk at the hospital." Ivy hung up directly; it was too complicated to explain over the phone.
