Chapter 10: If You Have Any Grievances, Take Them Out on Me

Outside the emergency room at the hospital, Ivy sat on a nearby seat, waiting.

Suddenly, she heard hurried and heavy footsteps approaching. She looked up and saw that it was Dillan. Dillan's face was grim, and his tone was harsh. "What did you do to upset her? She has a heart condition!"

Ivy scoffed internally. He unconditionally believed Kay and assumed she had upset Kay without even understanding the situation. "Why don't you ask your woman why she came to my office during work hours to cause trouble?" She was fed up with these two, but Kay kept coming to her.

Just then, the door to the emergency room opened, and a doctor came out, calling, "Who is Kay's family member?"

Dillan stepped forward and asked, "What's the situation now?"

"She has a congenital heart condition. It seems she was agitated, causing her to faint. She needs to stay in the hospital for observation for two days. Make sure she doesn't get agitated again."

After the doctor left, Dillan turned angrily to Ivy. "What do you have to say for yourself? What did you do to upset her?"

"Why don't you ask your lover when she wakes up?" Ivy turned to leave. How was she supposed to know Kay had a heart condition? And why would someone with a heart condition come to her office to get agitated?

"Ah!" As Ivy turned, Dillan grabbed her and pushed her against the cold wall, gripping her jaw tightly. "If you have any grievances, take them out on me. Don't upset Kay! Her body can't handle it!"

The impact against the wall hurt Ivy. "Dillan! Why do you automatically assume it was me who upset her? Don't forget she came to my office, not the other way around!"

"Why did she come to see you?" Dillan demanded, staring into Ivy's eyes.

"To give me money to stay away from you! Do you think that was me upsetting her? Make sure she feels secure so she doesn't disrupt my work again!"

Ivy shoved Dillan away and left the hospital without looking back.

Dillan's face darkened as he punched the wall in frustration.

In a high-end hospital room, Kay opened her eyes and saw Dillan standing by the floor-to-ceiling window with his back to her. She smiled weakly. "Dillan..."

Hearing her voice, Dillan turned and walked to the bedside. "I've already divorced Ivy. You don't need to go looking for her anymore."

Kay was stunned. "Dillan... I'm sorry. Are you mad at me?"

Dillan's expression was grim. "What do you think? Don't you know you have a congenital heart condition?"

"I just didn't want there to be any more contact between you two. But Ivy said she wanted to remarry you and continue entangling with you, hindering our relationship. I got emotional and..."

"Impossible," Dillan interrupted firmly.

Kay was shocked; she realized that deep down, Dillan believed Ivy. Struggling to get out of bed, Kay searched for something but was too weak. Dillan held her shoulders down. "What are you doing?"

"Do you think I'm lying? I have a recording! Ivy said those things herself and even mentioned using Old Mr. Zane to achieve her goal of remarrying you!"

Kay took out her phone from her bag and played the recording she had prepared in advance, anticipating that Ivy wouldn't take the money and disappear quietly.

With some doubt, Dillan listened as Kay played the recording of two women talking. Especially when he heard Ivy's voice saying...

"So what ifSo what if I am? If I get Dillan, I'll have the incredibly wealthy Zane family. Why would I care about your ten million card? Take your card and get out! Dillan spoiling you is his business; I have no obligation to indulge you!"

Dillan's expression changed subtly as he frowned in displeasure.

Kay added fuel to the fire. "Did you hear that? Ivy said it herself! I didn't wrong her!"

Dillan furrowed his brows in thought. Could it be that Ivy really came back this time to remarry and reclaim her position as Mrs. Zane?

At Water's Edge Estates, Ivy returned home after a busy day but couldn't find her little one anywhere. The nanny saw her return and said, "Miss Yancey, you're back. Can I leave now?"

"Where's the baby? I don't see him."

"He's in his room making a phone call and doesn't want me to listen. He's like a little adult; your baby is so cute," the nanny said with a smile.

Ivy couldn't help but smile too; her precious son loved pretending to be an adult.

As she approached the bedroom, she heard his sweet voice calling out, "Daddy Riley, I miss you so much!"

Daddy Riley? Was this little rascal talking to Riley?

Ivy opened the bedroom door, and Ian quickly stood up from his corner and ran to the balcony with his phone, shouting, "Mommy, don't hang up! I want to talk to Daddy Riley!"

She didn't want this little rascal taking up Riley's work time; he was already busy enough without having to chat with Ian.

The phone was on speaker mode, and Riley's gentle laugh came through. "Ian, be good and give the phone to your mommy. I need to talk to her."

The little one pouted but reluctantly agreed. "Okay, for the sake of your relationship with Mommy, I'll let it slide."

Ian handed her the phone. "Mommy, here you go. Daddy Riley wants to talk to you."

Ivy took the phone and put it to her ear. "Lawyer Riley."

"Your son calls me Daddy Riley, and you call me Lawyer Riley? Isn't that too formal?" Riley's gentle voice was captivating.

Ivy laughed. "He's just a child; don't mind him. He really wants a daddy."

Sometimes she felt sorry for her baby; he always envied other kids who could call someone daddy.

Riley chuckled on the other end of the line. "I think Ian is quite sensible; he knows it's hard for you to raise him alone and wants someone to help."

Hearing this warmed Ivy's heart unexpectedly. This little rascal was indeed well - behaved but could be quite annoying at times too.

"You're right; my son is quite sensible," she laughed softly.

"Are you adjusting well back home? I'll be busy here for another two months; let me know if you need anything."

Riley was actually the head of Equity Law Firm, and getting into one of the top law firms in the country upon returning home was already great; she couldn't ask for more.
