Chapter 3: Almost Discovered

She thought about it and then acted on it.

Ivy grabbed the little boy next to her and turned to leave, not wanting to stay a second longer.

Henry panicked and grabbed her slender wrist. "Hey... Ivy, what's wrong? Didn't you agree to take over this case temporarily?"

"If you had told me earlier it was Zane Corporation, I wouldn't have accepted."

They had only mentioned that a big client wanted to change lawyers temporarily, but they hadn't told her it was Zane Corporation.

Standing there made her feel uncomfortable all over.

Ivy pulled the child and was about to leave when Henry knelt down. "Please, I'm begging you! This is a task from the boss. If I can't handle this small matter, how can I go back?"

Henry made a gesture to kneel.

Many employees were already casting strange looks their way.

Ivy pulled him up. "Can you have some dignity? Kneeling at the drop of a hat!"

The little boy looked at Uncle Henry pitifully and said in his childish voice, "Uncle Henry, men only kneel when they do something wrong."

Ivy was somewhat helpless. "Is that guy we're meeting today?"

"Who?" Henry looked confused.

For four years, she hadn't wanted to mention Dillan's name even once. Just thinking about him made her feel nauseous and disgusted; she wanted to sever all ties with that name forever.

"The heir of Zane Corporation! Is he the one we're meeting?" If it was that scumbag, she would turn around and leave, regardless of the consequences.

"You mean that CEO, Dillan? No, he's busy with a million things. It's the vice president of the group who will meet us."

Ivy finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But hearing Dillan's name was like a thorn in her throat, causing a ripple in her beautiful eyes, though mostly filled with disgust.

"Then let's go. But I'm only staying for half an hour, not a minute more."

With that, she took Ian's hand and walked towards the elevator.

Henry watched the mother and son walk away and finally breathed a sigh of relief. At least he managed to keep them here; otherwise, his job would be at risk.

...

The three of them arrived at the high-level meeting room on the sixteenth floor.

Little Ian suddenly said, "Mommy, I need to pee! I can't hold it!"

"I'll take Ian to the bathroom. You go in and talk to them. They've been urging me for a long time. Please." Henry picked up the little boy from the ground and rushed towards the bathroom.

Ivy shook her head helplessly and then turned to enter the meeting room.

She hadn't expected that after four years, Ewrodon had undergone such drastic changes, even Zane Corporation had relocated.

When she said half an hour, that’s exactly what she meant. No way she’d go even one second over it.

Ivy walked out of the meeting room with a cold expression, but upon seeing her baby, she smiled gently. "Let's go. Mommy will take you to eat something delicious."

"Yay! Mommy is the best!"

A chubby little hand held hers tightly.

For the past few years, Ian had been her only source of strength, helping her through endless darkness.

She was very grateful she hadn't aborted him back then but chose to keep him instead.

"Ian, what do you want to eat?"

"Hmm... noodles."

Meanwhile—

Around the corner in the hallway, a group of people surrounded Dillan as they walked towards the meeting room, each vying to report their work to him.

Ivy listened to her son with a gentle smile as they walked to the corner. When she looked up, her smile froze in shock!

It was him!

Dillan!

Four years later, Dillan!

Her worst fear had come true!

Ivy immediately stepped back and hid, taking out sunglasses from her bag and putting them on.

Henry was puzzled. "What's wrong?"

"Take the stairs."

Ivy bent down and picked up her son, turning towards the stairwell.

Even though she was wearing eight-centimeter high heels, she still picked up Ian and walked away.

"Why take the stairs when there's an elevator? You're wearing high heels; aren't you tired?" Henry didn't understand and followed reluctantly.

"Mommy, I want to take the elevator. The stairs are tiring."

"Mommy will carry you." She couldn't let Dillan discover this child.

At that moment, Dillan approached with company executives surrounding him.

Four years later, Dillan wore a perfectly tailored black suit. He still looked noble and handsome but now had a more mature demeanor.

Suddenly, a child's voice called out, "Mommy!"

This call caught Dillan's attention.

He looked up, his dark eyes flashing with surprise.

A woman's figure entered his sight like a blinding light. A woman was nothing special, but why did this back look so familiar...

Familiar enough to overlap with his ex-wife he hadn't seen in four years!

Ivy?

The woman seemed cautious and glanced back but wore sunglasses that covered most of her face.

Dillan inexplicably took large strides towards her, distancing himself from the group behind him.

"Mr. Zane! The meeting room is this way!" The secretary called from behind.

But he didn't seem to hear it.

Dillan chased that familiar figure all the way to the stairwell but found nothing.

He frowned deeply.

Could he have been mistaken?

He stared at the empty stairwell for a few seconds before turning away.

It seemed ridiculous. That woman had disappeared for four years; how could she appear at Zane Corporation?

Over these four years, he had tried to find Ivy's whereabouts but she seemed to have vanished without a trace.

Because of this, his grandfather almost severed their relationship.

However—

At this moment, Ivy was holding her little boy's mouth shut behind the stairwell door while Henry stood quietly beside them, not daring to speak.

They were so close; if Dillan had taken two more steps, he would have discovered them both.

The little boy's big dark eyes blinked adorably.

After hearing those heavy footsteps leave,

Ivy released her son's mouth and apologized guiltily. "Ian, I'm sorry. Mommy didn't mean it. Did I hurt you?"

The little boy hugged her like a little man. "I'll always forgive Mommy."

Hearing this, Ivy was slightly stunned and then smiled. He truly was her good son.

Henry still didn't understand why they had hidden. "Ivy, why did we hide? Even if we ran into Dillan, we could just say hello. Do you have social anxiety or something?"

Ivy didn't bother explaining. "Think whatever you want."
