Chapter 4: Caught by Dillan

Night fell quickly, and the banquet began.

"Mr. Hank, regarding the infringement case of Zane Corporation, I think it's better to change the lawyer. It might not be convenient for me to take this case," she said directly, not wanting to beat around the bush.

After settling her son, Ivy arrived at the banquet, intending to discuss changing lawyers with Mr. Hank.

She absolutely couldn't take the Zane Corporation case, or she would eventually be seen by Dillan.

Mr. Hank paused slightly with a glass of red wine in his hand. "Why? Infringement cases are your specialty. It shouldn't be difficult for you."

"I... I have my difficulties. I hope you can understand," Ivy said.

As she spoke, Mr. Hank's gaze lingered on her exposed shoulders.

Mr. Hank was a greasy forty-year-old man, rumored to always make inappropriate physical advances towards young women in the law firm.

"Really? Ivy, what difficulties do you have? You can tell me..." As he spoke, Mr. Hank's hand reached for her fair and slender arm.

Ivy instinctively dodged. "Mr. Hank, in any case, I can't take this case."

Meanwhile—

Dillan also appeared at the banquet, dressed in a black suit, his tall figure and handsome features covered in a layer of frost.

He picked up a glass of red wine from a waiter's tray when his phone suddenly rang.

Dillan glanced at it; it was his grandfather calling.

He frowned and answered the phone, taking a sip of red wine. "Grandfather, what's wrong?"

"You bastard! I'm telling you! As long as I'm alive, that actress Kay won't set foot in the Zane family! The only daughter-in-law I recognize is Ivy!"

As soon as the call connected, the old man's hysterical roar came through.

Dillan couldn't help but hold the phone away for a moment. After the old man finished yelling, he put it back to his ear, a bit impatient. "Grandfather, what are you fussing about again?"

"That actress publicly claimed today that she's going to marry you. Who gave her the guts! If you dare secretly get a marriage certificate with that actress, I'll break your legs!"

With that, the old man hung up directly, clearly very angry.

He looked at the disconnected call, his brows tightly knit.

Four years had passed, and his grandfather still only recognized Ivy as the daughter-in-law.

He really couldn't understand what was so good about Ivy that she could gain the approval of all the elders in the Zane family.

At this moment, a gentle female voice sounded. "Dillan, you're finally here. I've been waiting for you."

Kay walked over in a white strapless evening dress with a sweet smile, linking her arm with his as if she saw her entire world in him.

Dillan responded and asked, "Did you publicly say today that we're getting married?"

Kay's face instantly turned red with embarrassment, looking aggrieved. "Those reporters kept asking and asking. I slipped up. Dillan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..."

"We'll talk about it later. Grandfather won't agree for now."

The man downed the remaining red wine in his glass in one go.

Kay's sweet smile froze on her face. What did he mean by 'we'll talk about it later'?

She had finally persuaded Dillan to agree to marriage after using so many tricks and schemes. Now he was telling her 'we'll talk about it later'?

Even after getting rid of that useless ex-wife, she still couldn't get past Old Mr. Zane.

Tears of grievance began to well up in Kay's eyes.

At this moment, Dillan inadvertently looked across the pool and his gaze stopped once again.

It was Ivy!

It was his ex-wife who had disappeared for four years!

A look of surprise and shock appeared in the man's dark eyes. This time he saw clearly; it was indeed Ivy.

Dillan's gaze remained fixed on that slender figure, afraid she would escape in the next second.

...

"Ivy, why don't you come to my place tonight? We can have a good talk about why you don't want to take this case," Mr. Hank kept trying to lure her home, utterly sleazy.

Ivy couldn't take it anymore. Going home with this old pervert was like walking into a lion's den. It was better to take on Zane Corporation's case!

She smiled politely and took a step back. "Mr. Hank, I'll take the case. I have something else to do now; I'll leave first."

The moment she turned around, she froze in place.

Dillan was walking through the crowd towards her with anger all over him.

Yes! He was walking towards her!

Why did they meet again! Why was fate torturing her like this!

Ivy's eyes widened in fear as she took two steps back, right into Mr. Hank's arms.

Mr. Hank held her up. "Ivy, have you thought it through? Want to come home with me and talk?"

"You misunderstood; I need to go this way!" Ivy pushed Mr. Hank away and quickly walked in another direction.

No, no, no!

She mustn't let Dillan catch her!

Ivy prayed silently in her heart as she quickened her pace. But wearing high heels made it hard for her to walk fast.

"Ah!"

Suddenly, she twisted her ankle and cried out in pain.

The next second, Dillan's large hand grabbed her shoulder, his deep and sexy voice sounding behind her. "Ivy! Stop right there!"

Ivy froze, not daring to look back. Her heart started racing, and a thin layer of sweat appeared on her forehead.

She closed her eyes in despair, not knowing how to react.

At this moment, there was a splash from the pool followed by someone saying, "Isn't that actress Kay? How did she fall into the pool?"

The man released Ivy's shoulder and turned towards the pool.

Ivy suddenly felt the hand on her shoulder disappear. She opened her eyes in surprise and saw Dillan walking away. She breathed a sigh of relief.

Without looking back, she left the banquet and headed towards the parking lot.

—Parking Lot—

She stumbled all the way to the parking lot because of her twisted ankle; every step was painful.

Just as Ivy was about to open her car door, a man's arm pressed against it forcefully. "Why are you running when you see me!"

She looked up and met those deep black eyes.

At this moment, she and Dillan were very close; she could even faintly smell the fresh mint scent on him.

Even though Ivy's emotions were turbulent inside, she maintained a calm appearance. "Sir, you've mistaken me for someone else. Please move."

She didn't want any more entanglements with Dillan.

Dillan let out a disdainful laugh and gripped her chin with his slender fingers. "Would I mistake my ex-wife? Do you think I’m a fool? Or you’re making a fool of yourself."

Ivy struggled against him as he pinned her against the car. "Dillan! What do you want!"
