For four years, she had not set foot in this old house, and now an inexplicable sadness washed over her.
Ivy frowned, recalling many past events.
The man led her all the way to the garden. From a distance, she saw Old Mr. Zane's aged figure, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Old Mr. Zane heard footsteps and turned around. Seeing his infuriating grandson, he snorted coldly, "What are you doing back here? Get out!"
Dillan's tall frame blocked Ivy beside him. He moved aside and said in a deep voice, "If you don't want to see me, surely you want to see her?"
Hearing this, Old Mr. Zane turned around again, looking shocked.
"Ivy? Is that you?"
"Grandpa... it's me," Ivy's voice choked up.
Old Mr. Zane was overjoyed for a moment, then his face fell. "Where have you been for four years? We couldn't find you anywhere! I still want to know why you divorced Dillan! Didn't you promise me that no matter what happened, you wouldn't divorce him?"
Dillan was speechless seeing his grandfather so excited.
It was as if Ivy was the real grandchild of the Zane family, and he was just an outsider.
"Grandpa, I'm sorry... I disappointed you."
She had indeed promised Old Mr. Zane that no matter what happened, she wouldn't divorce Dillan.
But Dillan had gotten another woman pregnant; what else could she do but divorce?
"Ivy, tell me, did this rascal force you to divorce? You’ve always been a good kid who does what you’re told. I know exactly what kind of person he is. Tell Grandpa the truth today!"
Old Mr. Zane looked at her expectantly, refusing to believe Ivy would break her promise.
Dillan squinted his eyes at Ivy as if warning her to speak carefully.
She didn't bother with Dillan but didn't want to worry Grandpa anymore.
"Grandpa, we divorced amicably. I don't love him anymore, and he doesn't love me either. No one forced anyone." She smiled as she spoke, hoping Grandpa would be at ease.
Unexpectedly, Old Mr. Zane suddenly became furious. "How is that possible! You told me you'd always love Dillan, even if he didn't love you back. How could that change? I don't believe it! This rascal must have forced you to say this!"
"Grandpa... it's not like that."
"Ivy, you're lying to Grandpa now too. You're not that kind of person. You loved Dillan deeply; how could that change so suddenly?"
Old Mr. Zane couldn't accept Ivy's explanation; it was clearly a lie.
Dillan couldn't stand it anymore and impatiently said, "Grandpa, are you being reasonable? I said we divorced amicably, and you didn't believe me. Now Ivy tells you herself, and you're still stubborn?"
"You rascal! Don't think I don't know what you're up to! I'll tell you this: unless you kill me right here, that actress Kay will never marry into the Zane family! The only daughter-in-law I recognize is Ivy!"
After speaking, Old Mr. Zane patted Ivy's hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, with Grandpa here, he won't dare do anything to you. I'll make sure you remarry."
Ivy was at a loss for words.
Grandpa was indeed quite stubborn.
Ivy decided to be honest.
"Grandpa, Dillan and I can't remarry. His child with that woman is almost three years old now. Do you expect me to be a stepmother? I can't do it. I'm sorry."
She remembered the woman Dillan brought home claimed to be pregnant; by now, the child should be about the same age as Ian.
Hearing the word 'child,' Old Mr. Zane's eyes widened in shock.
Dillan's face darkened instantly, his lips pressed tightly together.
"A child? What child? That actress had your child?" Old Mr. Zane looked at Dillan in disbelief.
Dillan's face was extremely grim. "No."
"You rascal! I'll ask you one more time: did Kay have your child? How could the Zane family lineage be continued by such a woman?" Old Mr. Zane angrily pointed his cane at him and questioned loudly.
Dillan suppressed his anger and explained again, "There is no child!"
"If you dare let that actress get pregnant, I won't forgive you... I..."
Before he could finish, Old Mr. Zane suddenly lost his balance and fell.
"Grandpa!"
Dillan's dark eyes were filled with shock as he quickly rushed to support his grandfather.
Ivy was also stunned, her mind blank. "Grandpa..."
...
Half an hour later, outside the bedroom.
The private doctor came out of the bedroom and looked at Dillan and Ivy standing outside. "The old man got too worked up and his blood pressure spiked. He's taken some medication and is fine now. Let him rest and avoid any more stress."
Hearing this, Ivy breathed a sigh of relief.
Dillan opened the bedroom door to check on his sleeping grandfather before closing it again.
He turned to her. "I'll take you home."
Ivy didn't speak and walked ahead of him.
Now calm, she suddenly recalled Grandpa's words...
So Grandpa didn't know about the child? And Dillan denied the child's existence earlier; why?
Who was this actress named Kay?
Was she the woman Dillan brought home four years ago?
An actress... a celebrity?
Ivy took out her phone and searched for Kay's name, quickly finding her profile online.
She widened her eyes in surprise; this Kay wasn't the woman Dillan brought home four years ago.
Suddenly, Ivy stopped and slowly turned to look at the tall, handsome man behind her. "So the woman you brought home four years ago wasn't pregnant, right?"
There was no child; it was all a ploy for divorce! To make room for Kay?
Dillan looked indifferent. "Yes."
Yes?!
He was so calm?
So Dillan fabricated a child just to divorce her? For his beloved Kay?
And she never even knew who her rival was!
Did he love her that much? Enough to use such underhanded tactics to force a divorce?
Ivy almost aborted her precious son back then!
In an instant, anger flared up inside her. She swung a slap at Dillan's handsome face.
As expected, Dillan easily intercepted it and sternly said, "Are you crazy?"
"Dillan! You'll never know about his existence!"
With that, Ivy left without looking back; she and her baby would never forgive this man.
The man stood there silently, watching her angry figure walk away.
Who was the 'he' Ivy mentioned?
