Chapter 9: Friday

Today was Friday. Friday meaning that we had our weekly dinner. My mom and stepdad at the head and I'm across from my brother. We all say grace and start to dig into the dinner. Rice and chicken. I take small bites, but I wasn't very hungry.

"How did court go?" My mom asked my brother.

"Fine, I guess. 20 hours community service." My brother mumbles and takes a bite of his food.

"How was school?" My mom asks me.

"Fine, I passed my math test." I say but not really looking up.

"Goody goody." My brother grumbles under his breath and I roll my eyes.

"At least I do something." I say quietly but I know they all heard me "May i be excused?"

My mom nods her head and I walk away from the table. I put on my converse and step outside the house and start making my way to the neighborhood park that was about 5 minutes away.

I sit on one of the swings and sit in peace and quiet. That was until of course I heard the all too familiar voice.
