CHAPTER 3 - EMERGENCY
Cyra drew back and continued to focus on her work. After a short while, she heard her phone ring.
She washed her hands before picking up the phone to see who the caller was.
Immediately she saw who the caller was, Cyra swiftly answered the phone. It was a call from the hospital.
"Miss Dane, you have to come to the hospital immediately. Your brother's condition is critical"
"Okay, I'm on my way. I'll be there immediately."
Immediately Cyra hung up the phone she took off her apron and carried her purse before going out.
Since there was nobody to look after the cafe if she was gone, she had to close it for the day. The two handsome young men would have to leave.
Cyra walked up to them and started speaking "Excuse me, I have an emergency to attend to, so I have to close the cafe for the day. I'm so sorry but you have to leave."
"May we know what kind of emergency it is?" Since Asher did not say anything or show any sign of getting up, Liam took the initiative and asked Cyra.
"My brother is in the hospital, I have to go right now. So, you have to leave, I'm sorry." Cyra was trying her best to be polite and not to sound rude to them. They were after all customers.
"Okay then, we'll leave. I hope your brother gets well soon." After Liam said this politely, he immediately left with Asher.
Cyra also proceeded to lock the cafe before going outside.
Standing at the side of the road, Cyra was waiting for a taxi.
She waited for five minutes and no taxi seemed to be coming. At this point, she was getting impatient.
She looked around and spotted Asher and Liam who were still talking beside a car. She figured that the car belonged to one of them.
Cyra immediately started moving in their direction.
"Uhm...excuse me, If you don't mind, can you guys give me a lift? I'm in a hurry and no taxi seems to be coming this way." Cyra asked nervously when she reached their front, afraid that they might refuse.
"It's not a problem, get in," Liam said gladly.
"Thank you so much" Cyra was so happy that they agreed to offer her a ride.
"Which hospital?" Asher asked immediately they got in. He was the one driving, as it was his car, while Liam was in the passenger seat and Cyra sat at the back.
"City hospital" Cyra replied.
After driving for ten minutes, they finally arrived at the City Hospital.
Cyra thanked them once more before rushing inside.
When she got to Oliver's room, she was told by a nurse that he had been taken to the intensive care unit.
She rushed to the intensive care unit and saw the light on outside the room. This made her very worried.
Her brother was her only relative in this life and she did not want to lose him. Oliver was eight years younger than Cyra. Their mother died while giving birth to Oliver and their father was a soldier who died in duty five years ago.
Oliver had a kidney disease and it was only discovered after their father's death.
Since their father was a noble soldier, his pension was high. But it was all used in treating Oliver's illness.
Now they were short on money. The little money she could get was what she used to open the cafe because she needed another source of income aside from tutoring students.
Cyra had lost both of her parents and now she did not want to lose her brother. He was the only one she had left. Thinking of all these, Cyra was on the verge of breaking down when she suddenly heard someone calling her.
"Cyra"
Cyra looked up to see who was calling her. It was Alora, her best friend. The only other person, aside from Oliver, whom she loved a lot.
Alora had been with Cyra since kindergarten. Both of their fathers were soldiers in the same unit. They had been each other's comforter since the death of their fathers. They both attended the same school and they both loved Oliver a lot.
"How is Ollie doing?" Alora asked out of breath. She had rushed all the way here immediately she got a call from the nurse.
"I have no idea, I just got here. Lora, I'm scared. I don't want to lose Ollie. He's the only one I have left" Cyra let out her grievances at the sight of Alora.
"It's okay, Ollie is going to be alright" Alora pulled Cyra into a hug while saying this. She was also scared of something happening to Oliver.
They comforted each other until the light outside the room went out.
The doctors and nurses finally came out.
"Doctor, how is my brother? Is he alright?" Cyra hurriedly asked in a shaky voice as soon as she saw the doctor.
"Miss Dane, your brother is alright for now. But I'm sorry to tell you that he is in a critical condition. Although his condition has stabilized for now, he is in immediate need of a kidney transplant.
Coincidentally, we found a suitable kidney match for your brother. The only problem would be the cost. We need to carry out the operation in forty-eight hours. Your brother can only hold on till then.
Also, for now, only doctors and nurses can go into the room. You guys can go in after twenty-four hours and you must be clean and well disinfected before going in.
I know it's been hard on you guys, but, in whatever you do, please act fast."
"Alright, we will think of a way and get back to you as soon as possible," Alora replied to the doctor since Cyra was still digesting the news about Ollie.
Alora and Cyra kept comforting each other for a short while before they started thinking of a way to get money for the transplant. After all, worrying and wallowing in their sorrows would not solve their current problem.
Unknown to them, they were being watched by Asher and Liam from a conspicuous corner.
