Chapter 4

Without thinking he took his car keys and headed directly to a bar nearby. He knew that was not a good idea since he was a respected person. A bar was not an ideal place for a Police Boss to be. He shrugged a way the constant reminder in his mind and went right ahead. Today more than ever he needed a real drink. He wanted to drink his brains out until he couldn’t think of Ana anymore and consider himself the biggest loser in the world.

Yeah he knew love sucks, especially after what he has been through in the past with women. But why does the thought of Ana starting her life with another man suffocating him like that? He wondered silently.

But today more than anything else he needed a drink to drown his sorrows. He entered the bar and ordered a beer. He kept on drinking until he was wasted, he couldn’t even stand by himself.

Ana was passing by when he noticed someone who looked like Nick staggering and trying to find his car keys. He wondered what was wrong with him. She has never seen him loose himself like that.

She quickly parked the car and immediately went running to help him. When she reached closer to him, she asked “Nick what is the matter with you? You can’t drive like this? Please let me help.”

“If you want to help me please be my woman”. She looked at him directly in the eyes and didn’t understand what he just said.

Nick on realizing that pulled her close to his body in a very tight hug. Ana was dumbfounded .She couldn’t even utter one word .Her throat felt dry and her body was already warm.

“What are you doing?” She finally managed to say

“Ooh… Ana are you that stupid…. Can’t you see how much I am crazy in love with you? This job is going to tear you apart from me. Please stay with me, I beg you. I can’t bear to see you with that criminal because he doesn’t deserve a woman like you” He lifted his hands and caressed her face. He had wanted to do this every time she was near.

She couldn’t understand what he was saying .So she broke free from his embrace and urged him in to the car .She took his car and drove to his house. It’s a good thing she knew his apartment where she had gone a few times to hand over reports.

At the door he gave her the keys to the locks. The house was painted in white and it was very clean and beautiful. Ana had always admired the finishing whenever she came in the past.

Ana went to the kitchen and prepared a cup of coffee for him. She knew it will make him comeback to his senses. But by the time she came back to the sitting room with the cup on her hand he had already left and was sound asleep on his bed.

She took off his shoes and loosened his tie slightly exposing his chest to a beautiful view. She couldn’t help but want to look more by unbuttoning his shirt. The man was breathtakingly gorgeous just as she imagined. But does he not recognize how she yearns for his love?

After struggling for a while she just took the duvet and covered him. She looked at the wall clock and it was already late she couldn’t go back to her house. She was going to spend the night in his house. The only problem is that he was close by but yet too far from her reach. If he could just give her just one chance then she will show him how much he meant to her

Her car was parked in a safe place and she knew it will be taken care of until tomorrow morning. So she decided to sleep on the couch. She took some sheets from the closet and went to the siting room. She also took Nicks pillow.

That night she could not get any sleep, she kept on turning and tossing for several hours .Nick’s scent on the pillow contributed to some extent to her being awake. She kept thinking of what happened between her and Nick at the parking lot.

Ana felt so good being in his arms and wondered about all those things he said to her. But at the end he was just drunk so everything he said didn’t make any sense to her and she will make sure to forget them .She didn’t want to get her hopes up with the possibility that Nick loves her.

Suddenly Nick woke up at the middle of the night. He was so thirsty and immediately climbed out of the bed to go get a glass of drinking water. When he looked at himself he wasn’t wearing pajamas and he thought that was odd.

He just yawned and walked out of the bedroom .On his way to the kitchen he saw the surprise of his life. There was a woman lying on his sofa set. He moved closer and discovered that it was Ana.

Her beautiful blonde hair was spread on the pillow and he could see her hugging the sheets. She didn’t cover herself well and Nick thought that being a cold weather she could catch a cold with that kind of behavior.

What puzzled him was how Ana ended up in his house and sleeping in his couch. The last thing he remembered was drinking in the bar after hearing those damn employees talking about Ana.

She brushed her hair softly and carried her to the bedroom. She must have slept late because she didn’t even realize that someone was carrying her. After that Nick went on to drink his water and continued sleeping on the couch where Ana previously slept.

Ana was dreaming in her sleep. She felt someone lifting her up with strong arms. Her body was suddenly moving slowly but steadily until she felt something soft on her cheeks. Since she was very tired from yesterday’s activities, she couldn’t open her eyes and therefore she continued sleeping.

Ana must have slept for a very long time. When she woke up she found herself on Nick’s bed. She rubbed her eyes and tried remembering what happened last night.

Nick was sitting next to her, very close that she started feeling uncomfortable. She looked at herself and found out that her clothes were still on.

Nick on realizing that smiled and said” Don’t worry I didn’t touch you. You were sleeping on my couch when I woke up in the middle of the night. What were you doing here?”

“You really don’t remember?” She asked with disappointment all over her face. Now more than ever she knew that Nick never meant what he said .He was just drunk.

“I found you drunk and brought you home. Since it was late I couldn’t go back so I decided to sleep on your couch. But I am surprised to find myself in your bed.”

Nick took on a serious face loving the way she was turning red all over. He chuckled softly and said in a deep voice” I carried you to my bed. Do you have a problem with that?

She just kept silent without answering his question. He has suddenly changed to the serious Nick who had never recognized her love for him.

“Go on have a bath .I will prepare you a breakfast.” With that he left the room leaving Ana to her own thoughts and disappointments. She thought that there could be some hope for them, but now there is none. A single tear was sliding down her cheeks. She wiped it with the back of her hands and stood up to go have a bath.

After finishing she went to the kitchen where she found Nick already eating breakfast. She sat down and ate only a small portion of her share. She had lost her appetite because she was tired of caring for Nick and he was just sitting down acting coldly towards her.

Finally she stood up and said that she had to go take care of her car. Also because it was a Saturday and she was not going to work, she wanted to clean her house. Nick just nodded and saw her off to the door without showing any emotion at all.

“What an ungrateful man” she muttered under her breath. I helped him yesterday and all he could do is act strangely towards me. She was so furious that even the driver of the taxi she boarded noticed and asked her. She told him to mind his own business.

Nick was left in the house by himself and felt so bad for Ana but there was nothing he could have done. If she could have stayed there a few more minutes he could have lost his self- control. He could have grabbed the woman and made sweet love to her.

The thought made him smile bitterly. It was for the best to let her think that he doesn’t care about her. He almost messed up yesterday by being weak in front of her.

Mike and Mark have finally met after being separated for a while, they needed to discuss more about their revenge on Ana .Even though she could not recognize them but she was the reason they became bankrupt after their family fortune was seized by the government.

It led to their parent’s unhappiness until they both died of depression. They were left alone on the streets to fend for themselves with no shelter or food to eat. They have both lived through very difficult moments of their lives. So it was time for Ana to pay for the difficulties they had to go through because of her.

“Little brother, how was the acting” Mike asked.” You performed very well .I thought we will never pull that part very well .When the police arrived it caught me by surprise but I was alerted by our brother.”

“You know it was pretty easy to fool her. She is really attracted to Nick, that foolish bastard. After following her for a while I realized that Nick was ignoring her. So I took advantage and offered her an alternative which she accepted. Now our first plan is in action and we will destroy her. She will regret ever messing with our family” Mark commented.

“I loved the way you planned the kidnapping case. We fooled her just as per plan. She was desperately trying to save your life.

“I told her about the fake story that we are the maid’s children” They both took cigars and started puffing smoke in the room.

“Well done brother, no one will ever know our true names or our true identity. In that way we keep off the police radar. They will never find out that we are both adopted and have no blood relations to our parents. Let them rest in peace”

Of the two brothers Mark was the most handsome and charming, women were always around him and he knew how to seduce women very easily. Mike on the other hand never liked women very much, all he cared about was a good lifestyle with lots of fun. Driving big cars and the latest models were his favourite hobby. In order for them to maintain their expensive lifestyle they became drug dealers after their fathers fortune was frozen by the government.

The plan was for Mark to seduce Ana, make her fall deeply in love with her and if need arises marry her. Then destroy her career which means the world to her and finally leave her in the streets penniless the same way she did to them.

“I knew you will not fail me, let’s go ahead with the marriage proposal which I know she will not refuse. The way I saw her look in to your eyes was amazing. It was filled with so much love I even envied you.

”Mike, You Know I don’t care about her, Let alone love her .For the memory of our parents she will pay.”
