Chapter 7: The attack

The attack...

"Jack Grayson ..." Brandon called his name hard. He stop in his tracks and turned around his senses on the alert.

"What is it father in-law?" he asked sarcastically.

"You better watch how you talk to me bastard."

"I fully agree father. Why haven't you call the police yet? Or is this just a ploy." Jack step out of the study. He was a man who knows how to fight.

"Jack ..." Brandon said.

"I am all ears father." Jack block the first attack by ducking then double punched the first guard in the face.

The second man stormed him. Without even thinking he simply kicked him in the balls making the man howl in pain as he double over onto the floor.

"Did you call the police father in-law?" Jack look curiously at the third man and it was clear he was hesitant. They certainly didn't expect resistance.

"I will teach you manners." Brett made his appearance with a golf club in his hand.

"Well - well, the little pup come to play. Show me your hand idiot." Jack challenged with a smile.

"You will get out of this place." Brett swing the club, hitting the vase instead of Jack who only slightly moved.

"I hope your next attack is better. I must say I am enjoying this unexpected workout."

Jack suddenly stood still. He looks directly at his father in-law. The older man seemed focus on something inside his office. He quietly cursed when he remembers the silent man who seemed to have Brandon McClain very nervous. This was his second time in this mansion and each time he forgets the most basic thing. Watch every player. The first time he walked blindly into this current attack.

This time when another player joined the game he has forgotten him in his haste to find Olivia.

"What are you looking at father in-law?"

"Know your place bastard." Brandon quickly wipes the sweat from his forehead.

"Do you need help? You look rattled about something." Jack moved towards him.

“Stop the bloody fool." he orders his guards.

"They are useless. You should let me train them." Jack was now curious as to what was going on behind that office door. He has this sudden need to see the face of that other man.

The moment he start to push the study door wider, Brett hit him right across the back. The force of the blow made him stagger forward. He managed to balance himself before turning around. He caught the swinging golf club pulling fast and hard. Brett was right in his face.

"Your mistake fool." Jack suddenly hit him with his head and the blood immediately splatters from his nose.

"You broke my nose." Brett yells.

"I am not done with you." Jack grabs hold of his hair holding him before he punched him in the stomach. "Next time you try hitting me make sure you hit the mark. I don't give second chances." Jack said through gritted teeth.

"Stop this." Brandon said nervously.

"Why don't you come out of your study?"

"I called the police. They would be here soon."

"Are you sure?"

"I am. I want you to stay where you are."

"Why not as I am curious to see if you are telling the truth;" Jack look up the stairs wondering what was keeping Olivia.

Brandon suddenly closed his study door. Jack instantly moved forward curious. The door was lock. He moved fast grabbing hold of Brett.

"Why did he lock the door?"

"How should I know?"Brett tries shaking himself free.

"Tell me what your father is doing behind that door."

"I am telling you, I don't know."

"Who was that man with him?"

"How should I know? I didn't see his face. Let go of me”

Jack suddenly decides to go up the stairs. He has the odd idea Olivia was being kept somewhere. The guards tried stopping him but he was fast.

"Olivia doesn't live upstairs." Brett suddenly said.

"Where is her bedroom?"

"Ground floor," Brett point in the direction past the study.

"Lie to me and I will remove your teeth." Jack slowly comes back down the stairs. It was clear the guards were nervous but he also knew they have a job to do.

The study door suddenly opened again. He looks at it but no-one made an appearance. He starts moving closer.

Instead of entering he just stood waiting. He keeps a sharp eye out for the circling men.

"Come inside." Brandon sounded tired.

"Are you alone in there?"

"I am."

"Where is your friend?"

"He left. Come in. I need to talk with you." Brandon said. He sounds like a man who was in trouble.

Jack slowly steps into the study.

"I am alone. Close the door." Brandon sits behind his desk.

Jack did what he asks but staying alert. These people were very treacherous. He looked around the space noticing it was clear the other man was gone.

"How did he leave this study?"

"Who are you talking about?" Brandon sounded puzzled.

"You like playing games. Okay let's play this your way for now. What do you want?"

"I am curious. Why did you marry my daughter?"

"I owe you no explanation."

"You do in reality. Olivia placed me in a dangerous situation."

"Doing what?" Jack narrows his eyes.

"Olivia is promised to someone else. You need to dissolve this marriage immediately."

"No." Jack said flatly.

"You are putting all of us in danger." Brandon looked visible pale.

Jack frown. The hair on the back of his neck alert him something wasn't right here. He looked around wondering again how that other man managed to get out of this study.

"Do you have another way out of this study?"

"No. Are you going to do what I ask?" Brandon truly looks nervous.

"Olivia and I are going to stay married."

"How much money do you want?"

"I am not for sale. Excuse me as I am going to look for my wife."

"Don't say I didn't warn you. You are a danger to my daughter."

Jack looked at the man. He seems frightened. He silently cursed that he didn't made a point of knowing who the other man was. Each time he step into this mansion he behave careless. He certainly won't make that mistake again.

"What type of deal did you make with that man?" Jack looked pointedly at his father=-in-law.

"It is non of your business but Olivia needs to honor the agreement. This is the final time I am asking you to dissolve this marriage."

"No I refuse."
