Jack made contact with Olivia again...
Jack stood motionless in front of the coffee shop. He had to really take in what was happening when it dawn on him his past is again his current present. "The ring ..." he said softly to himself. "Is this going to be a groundhog type of moment?" The words were softly whispered in puzzlement.
"Are you going to stand there the whole night?" Mario the owner asks with a smile. "It would seem College has fried your brain."
"Don't talk nonsense," Jack smile back briefly slapping his friend on the back. "How's business?" Both men enter together. "The location is ideal. You won't believe how many midnight students I get my bruh."
"No troubles with any unwanted muscle?"
"Nah but I am vigilant especially with the girls. Boy are some beautiful but so bloody studious." Mario laughed while pouring two mugs of strong bitter coffee. He places one in front of his old neighborhood friend. "If you need me I am in the back. You want some of my special pie?"
"Sure why not." Jack went and sits in the corner of the shop. The wall was protecting his back. He was secluded enough but still has a good view of the front and interior of the shop. He looks at his watch and noticed it was just past ten o'clock. He finally realized the ring somehow brought him back here to the now. The question was why? He was a bit worried that his already past somehow will cause trouble in the future. Why time travel back here? He didn't even know it was possible. Then again he knew he should follow the path. There was a reason for everything.
Jack count the minutes in his head if he was right Olivia would be making her appearance. He wonders briefly what kind of mischief this ring was also going to cause him. Shrugging his shoulders he went back to studying for his mid finals. The chimes of the door made him look up. Just like in the recent past; a frightened Olivia enters looking drop dead gorgeous with her bookish appearance.
His expression serious as he looks at her; then the guys that followed her. He made a point of not getting involved with the world he was born into but the fright on her face made him approach her. He walked past her using his body as a shield.
"What do you want?" Jack questioned.
"Mind your own business." the one guy tried pushing him out of the way.
"This is my business. If you don't want serious damage done to you I suggest you leave right now."
"Don't tell me what to do."
Jack watch his hand moved behind his back. Without saying a word he simply removed the family crest like necklace from beneath his shirt. He looked hard and serious.
"Shit!" The guys couldn't get out of the coffee shop fast enough.
Olivia stood looking at his broad back. She knew she was in trouble when she left the grounds of the College. She wondered what this tall strange guy has shown those men to make them suddenly leave. She quickly looked at the secluded table where he had sit and noticed the books.
"My name is Jack Grayson." He turned to face her once he was certain those guys were out of sight.
"Olivia. I knew I made a mistake being out this late." she said by way of an explanation.
"Then why did you?" He keeps his expression serious.
"The need for constant coffee and a heavy work load." She tried smiling but wasn't in the right frame yet.
"Join me." Jack point at the available chair.
"Are you sure?" she was hesitant.
"I am. I am also aware who you are professor. I don't intent to get you into trouble."
Olivia looked into his serious eyes having the odd sense of protectiveness. Her eyes did a quick inventory about his profile liking how her body was instantly reacting to his maleness. There certainly could be fireworks between them.
Jack simply nods at Mario who smiled before bringing another pie and coffee.
"It's going to be a long night my friend."
"It's fine." Mario said smiling then vanished again.
"I am Jack." he said again.
"I heard you the first time." Olivia fiddles with the edge of one of her files. Her reactions surprises her. She can feel the rising of instant desire. This man intrigued her.
"I am twenty five and am about to finish my final year." Jack said seriously.
"Why wait so long?" Olivia looks into his eyes than found something odd happening. Her face was burning with sudden shyness yet she also senses the rising of her feelings towards a high that shock her. She shook her head. She was doing her best to hide what was happening to her. Then suddenly wonders why should she hide?
"I never thought this was important. But life teaches you things or forces you to make promises."
"Who forced you? You don't seem the type of guy who would ever allow him to be told what to do."
"I am not. I want to go. I will escort you back to your place. Just for the record before we leave, let a friend know you are with me."
Jack walked to the back looking for Mario. “Hey I am leaving."
"The professor?"
"I am walking her back. I want you to be careful. Those guys who followed her, I am not sure if they truly left."
"You take care of her."
"Ready professor?"
Jack pulled his backpack over his shoulders then reached for her things. The ten minute walk was done in rather comfortable silence. Both feel aware of the other.
"This is my building."Olivia looks very shy clearly not ready to leave."You want a cup of coffee?" she offered.
Jack carefully removed the slender hand from his chest. He moved into a sitting position before he reached for his jeans on the floor. He found his reaction towards her curious. It has been a while since he slept with a woman on the first meeting.
"Are you leaving?"
He turned to look down at the sleepy clearly ravish woman. His first impression about her was correct. She is very beautiful. His heart still rise with the knowledge he was her first lover.
"I was quickly going for a coffee run." he said smiling sitting down on the side of the bed.
"You were not trying to escape while I was still sleeping perhaps?"
"Olivia, I am not that type of guy." he reaches out to carefully brush the hair from her face. He suddenly leaned forward and kissed her softly tenderly on the lips. "You want pie with your coffee?" he smiled against her lips.
Jack left his friend's coffee shop. He walks back the way he came. Whatever the reason was for the situation he was finding himself in, he was happy being with Olivia.
"Hey you!"
Jack stop to look around.
"Say hi to your mother and sisters."
Jack heard the popping sound. The strong invisible arms that encircled him on his ride to see his grandfather pulled him into the alley.
