I thought I was the only one surprise at my grandparents announcement. Aside from my parents, Sheil and Levi were quite surprised as well.
"But I can't use magic,"
"But she can't use magic," -Mama -papa -Levi -Sheil.
All of us said it in the same time. Wow.
Grandmama ang grandpapa laugh hysterically. Like, hysterical. I didn't how many times I blink.
I know my grandparents are crazy. I just didn't know that they can become crazier.
"Ooh, stop making me laugh Louis..." Grandmama wiped a tear beside her eyes.
"She can't use magic. All institution requires magic." Levi protested.
Grandpapa cleared his throat. I gritted my teeth. My parents agreed to Levi's statement. I'm still so useless to them huh.
"Well, Isabel can just apply--"
"She can't mama, you already know that every school requires magic. She won't be able to get in,"
"But what is she can?" Grandpapa ask, the way he said it is in mysterious way.
"We will just apply, what's wrong with that? My granddaughter need to experience school as well."
"But ma, pa--" -papa
"Let us rest for a while Louis, Patricia dear. We've come a long way," grandpapa said. Papa and mama nodded.
"You're right mama. I think you should rest, you're clearly not thinking well..." Mama said.
Although I agree with them. I have no power and I'm a lower of an average vampire. But I can't help it but get offended by their words.
"They're right grandmama, grandpapa. It'll be useless cause I'm a useless vampire, who has no power, no ability and nobody wants to take me." I said. They all stop talking. I smiled and continue, "Even mama and papa didn't want me because I don't have any power, what more if I go to other school grandma, grandpa? If you're doing this because you don't want me anymore, you just say so. Don't worry, I've been through this already. " I said looking at my parents who is in shock for what I said.
"Isabela, you know it's not true. I didn't--" mama cried guiltily.
"I don't know ma."
"Bella, that's not why we want you to apply. We just want you to experience what is li---"
I cut off grandmama. "Stop explaining grandmama," I said softly as I smiled. "I'm going to apply if that's what you want. Excuse me," I stood up. I took the papers with me.
"Isabela," mama said softly. Her eyes are glittering in tears.
"Where should I sleep?" I ask.
"Hija, let's talk about this first..." grandpapa beg.
I shook my head.
"It's alright. It's not your fault I was born... powerless." I sigh. "I'm tired, where should I sleep?" I asked again.
"Bell--"
"All rooms are occupied, you can sleep in my room." Sheila volunteered. I nodded. I followed her as she walk.
My heart is heavy. I didn't want to say those words to them, but the resentment I felt towards them overflow.
I sat on the bed. Sheil is standing in front of me. I didn't dare look up as I notice that my tears freed themselves to my eyes.
I tried to nonchalantly wipe them. But then, I couldn't hide the sob.
"Issa..." Sheil's voice became shaky as she said my name. She was about to say something when the door opened revealing Levi.
"Your shirt--" he stop his tracks when he saw us crying.
I cleared my throat wanting to wipe the lump on my throat. I stand up, wipe my tears and took the shirt he handed. I was about to take it when Levi's hand gripped my wrist.
"Let go," I said, voice trembling.
"What you thought wrong. We never abandoned you--"
"Liar!" I screamed. My tears fell like a waterfall. I tried swatting his hands away but he was too strong. Or maybe, I was too weak.
"No Issa. We could never abandoned you! We love you!" Sheil tried to calm me, she was also crying so much.
"No you don't! You never visited me once! You never tried writing me! You said you would be there for me, but you weren't!" I sob.
"No, no, no Issa. That's not true. Please calm down..." Sheil embraced me. I cried more realizing that I missed her so much. Our moments were only little but they mean so much to me. Levi too!
I became a little weaker at their hold. Levi embraced us.
"Our parents did that for your own good. You think Sheil and I want you gone? Mama and papa has their reasons,"
"Because I was weak and they didn't want me. That's why," I protested. "D-do you know how much I tried to train hard just so I wouldn't be a burden to anyone? I wanted to go home so much because I miss mama and papa. I miss my Kuya and Ate! And everytime I think about it hurts me. B-because why do your love is condition? Can't you want me as I am? It's not my fault I was born powerless..."
Sheil cried more. "T-that's not true. Ate and Kuya loves you so much and we miss you everyday."
"Lair." I said, still crying. I tried gaining my posture. They were surprised when I pushed them away. I sat on the bed again.
"We should tell her," Levi said.
"But--"
"Tell me what?" I asked.
"Nothing's gonna happen if we tell her. Besides, I can't help it anymore if she thinks that we abandoned her." Levi said very determined. Sheil sigh and nodded. So Levi continued. "Remember the story when mama asked for the fortune teller to foresee your future? She was the reason why mama had to hand you over to our grandparents. To protect you."
"Protect me from what?" I asked.
"From her. She wanted to buy you. Mama thought she was crazy. But then she started to became more aggressive." Sheil responded.
"Why did she want to take me?" I ask curiously.
"We didn't know why, she must've seen something in your future."
I snorted. "If she was a real fortune teller, didn't she see that she won't take me? You're making up excuses to your faults." I sigh. "I'm sleepy," I told them.
"It's true Issa..." Shiel whispered. She smiled softly at me. "We understand your resentment towards us, but put in mind that we love you so much." She said. I was surprised when she cup my face and kissed me in the forehead. "We love you Issa," she said. "Get some rest,"
Levi kissed my head as well. "Our Issa is such a crybaby," he smiled. "Kuya misses you so much," he smiled as well before he went outside the room.
After I took a bath and changed my dress. I lay in bed, Sheil was nowhere to be found. As soon as my head hit the soft pillow, I fell asleep.
Morning came and I was woken up by mama and papa. Papa was carrying a tray that's filled with food, I can smell it's delicious aroma. Meanwhile, mama was carrying Yuri.
Mama smiled at me. "Good morning Issa, how was your sleep?" She asked. Last night, a small burden was lifted out of my aching heart. The talk made me a little better, it's inevitable that I'll forgive them soon.
"Give the flower to your ate, Yuri." Mama said. Yuri handed me the flower. She then again resumed burying her face on mama's neck. "Yuri isn't much of a talker in the morning," -mama.
"Here Issa. Papa cooked your favorite, I also bought you an apple. Your grandparents said that you love eating apple," papa smiled. He was still wearing an apron.
"We'll leave this alright? Come downstairs if your finished." Mama kissed the side of my head. I didn't wanna talk, so I just nodded.
The food they made was delicious. Cow meat, buffalo ribs and cold blood. I'm still mad at my parents but I can't say no to foods. Beside, this is the first time a had breakfast in bed without running 20 or more mountains. Grandpapa and grandmama makes me run first and do chores before eating. Speaking of the two grands, I wonder where they are.
I sigh again. I hope they won't scold me for cutting them off and getting upset last night. Goodness, the last time I talk back accidentally on them they throw me in the deepest trench and made me fought many megladon. Those big sharks and sea monsters. I can still remember how gooey and stinky their blood is. The horror.
After I finished my breakfast, I bathe again and change my dress. I still took the papers with me. I fill it up already. The five of them.
I met Andy on my way downstairs. "Hi Ate, how was your sleep? I was about to go to your room to wake you up," he said.
Before yesterday, I didn't know that I have more siblings existed. "It was great, how was yours?"
Andy shrug. "It's fine."
His face is a bit chubby and I couldn't help but pinch his cheeks. I can't help but get excited thinking that I have a younger brother and a sister. I'm a big sister!
I talk to Andy for awhile, I found out that he was 7 years old and Yuri is 3.
Andy and I made it downstairs. Levi was cooking. "My beautiful granddaughter is awake!" Grandmama said then she kissed my cheek. "How was your sleep?" She asked. I can smell warning on her voice. Shit, I'm going to get scolded. It's very unusual for her to kiss me suddenly.
"Rise and shine sunshine!" I heard grandpapa.
I downcast my self.
"I'm sorry grandmama and grandpapa. Please spare me. I know I'm at faults for cutting you off and talking back to you. I apologize," I said sincerely with all my heart.
"Good, good..." grandpapa chanted.
"I told you to never talk back to elderly. Must respect seniority,"
"Yes grandmama,"
"Pledge it!" She said with authority.
I quickly raise my hand. "I pledge to never ever talk back to elderly people." I said holding back my breath.
"Good," grandmama and grandpapa clapped.
Suddenly their eyes became softer. "We raise you well. We understand what happened yesterday, your resentment towards your parents and siblings but always remember that everything has a reason to it dear." Grandmama smiled at me. I nodded at her.
Grandpapa's eyes then wandered on the paper I was holding. "I will--"
I was interrupted by Sheil's voice. "Everyone! Mama, papa! I have good news!" Sheil said excitedly. There were sweat on her forehead and looks like she's been running.
Mama and papa came down instantly. Wanting to hear Sheil's news.
"They have found her! They have found her!" Sheil said in joy.
"Who?" all of us asked.
She then took the newspaper and open it for us to see.
A very beautiful woman was printed on the paper.
"The girl from the Prophecy!" Sheil said excitedly. "She's the one who will save us from Oz." she was breathing heavily and she look like she was really save by these girl.
"Who's Oz?" I asked.
"Oz is the powerful ruler of the Olympians. He's kidnapping girls from every village. Reason why we don't want you to school Issa is also because of that. We don't want you hurt and we only want what's best for you..." papa said.
I look away. I already made up my mind. Although I hate destiny, fate or prophecy... I wanted to try these. My first rebellion.
"Is Oz that powerful as this kingdom?" I asked again.
"Rumor said that he is making his troops stronger." Levi replied.
"Why didn't this kingdom attack him first before he got stronger? I mean, isn't that a best move."
"Well, our kingdom is making their knights even more stronger to help the chosen one defeat Oz. They tried attacking him once in his territory but his defense was stronger than they expected. A lot of warriors died, that's why they're being cautious now."
"Did this Oz know about prophecy?" I asked again.
"Each kingdom has their own prophecy to believe in. Stop asking questions child," Grandpapa said with finality. He covered my mouth with his hands. I pouted at him.
"Now that the Chosen One has been found, a huge battle will happen soon."
