Chapter 8 - memorial

Chapter eight- memorial.

EDITED

((ROGER’S POV))

It had been a month since I noticed Jose’s presence and I have been watching him for quite a while now. I won't really label myself a stalker because I’m just checking if he was…well like… uhh... never mind. I stood at my locker pretending to be looking through my stuffs; this morning was bright and lovely and so was the boy I was watching. Wait! What did I just think? Well, ummm, maybe this me just passing a compliment to someone. Lucinda stood facing him as she said a few things I definitely couldn’t hear; I have been keeping a close eye and ear on him, Sue me.

“Hey dude” Milo said startling me. he was sometimes annoying, I smiled at him so he won’t ask me any stupid question.

“Sup dude” I said looking back at my locker again.

“So... I see you’re checking that Lucinda girl out” he said. I could sense the smirk on his face; turning, I looked at him and sighed shaking my head with my hands up as if to say 'I surrender you caught me', he smiled at this as he chuckled.

“Well enjoy the feisty little she devil pal” he said laughing to God knows what. I smiled before turning back toward where Lucinda and José stood, but they weren’t there anymore so I’m guessing they had gone to their class.

“So dude, what about your babe Jay?” he asked, I only shrugged not knowing what I was expected to say but knowing he wanted an answer. Finally removing my books for the morning's classes and putting them into my bag, I turned to face him.

“So if you don't mind me asking, when are you going to break up with her? You know she is kind of the school whore” he said again; I have been looking for a way to break up with her but so far I’ve found no evidence of her being a whore for others. Still smiling, I locked my locker and looked back at Jake who looked so bored.

“Well fella I need your help on that one” I said plainly as the warning bell rang, we began to walk toward the class of that morning which was literature.

“How?” he asked as confusion was written all over his face.

“I don’t know yet but when I do I’m going to tell you” I said as he nodded with a smile. Well the only true friend I've got in this school fall of fake people, is Milo. I know he hates school and all but that’s on him. He doesn’t need much reading to pass either way but I know he pretends in front of the others. He was my best friend, even if I were to insult him it would only be a casual thing. We got to class just before the bell signifying the beginning of class rang. When we were settled, I looked straight at the teacher as she commenced her lesson for the day.

^.^

Lunch came around very slowly but it still came around all the same. I had stopped seating with my friends because, well, you know, I was watching Jose. I knew where he had his lunch with Lucinda and I followed them there every lunch period, making sure they didn't see me; well I kind of stay far away from them so that makes it hard for them to notice who I was.

“Dude where are you going, aren’t you going to eat with us?” I heard Lucas ask but I shook my head.

“Then I’ll follow you” it was Jay this time. I huffed turning to look at her. She had her hair packed up into a bun and she was in her cheerleading outfit.

“You can’t” I said plainly as I walked away, she scoffed before sighing and following the others. I know I’m being harsh, but the truth was that I didn’t really care about that anymore because I had better plans and things to do.

I got to the library which was empty, but I knew at the back, behind the bookshelves, there they will be, sitting down, eating and reading. I waved at the middle aged librarian woman, Mrs Marico, who smiled at me calmly. Walking toward the back, I sat at the far end where they won’t know I was there, I watched through the space in the large shelf blocking them from seeing me. I know I’m sounding like a stalker right now but this stalker is totally harmless.

José sat there playing with a slice of apple on his fork. He looked sad as Lucinda on the other hand seem to be trying to cheer him up.

“Come on José, tell me, what is making you so sad?” she asked but José just sighed and looked up at her before sighing and typing away on his I-pad.

“I’m just not in the mood to talk but when I want to I will let you know” the I-pad read out. I always wanted to know if he was really mute or he just didn’t want to talk at all, I then noticed Lucinda sigh as she stood up and started walking toward where I was seated. Turning, I took a book which was laying on the desk and pretended to be reading it. She was picking a book, as I watched her through the corner of my eye she stopped what she was doing and looked at me.

“Hey Roger” she said in a very calm voice which could scare anyone to death, including me. Pretending to just notice her, I looked at her and smiled.

“Well hello there Lucy” I said turning fully toward her.

“Why are you here?”

“Me?” I asked pretending to be confused; I knew how much she despised my existence, well let’s say it all started ever since Max died. That wasn’t my fault to start with, but I felt guilty for telling Lucas and Jake in the first place, I was confused and I’m not gay.

She shook her head at me before she sat down opposite me looking at me intensely and making me feel uncomfortable, she finally stopped and said

“What do you want from us Roger?” she asked in, if i might add, a very serious voice.

“Wh-what?” I feigned confusion.

“I know you have been following us for a while now” she stated plainly, way to get to the point. Searching my mind to see if I covered my tracks well, which I did, I couldn’t give myself away not now, not ever.

“W-Why would you think that” I asked looking anywhere but at her.

“Well I don’t have time to waste on your denial but I want you to do me this favour, stay far away from him” she said before standing up and walking off without waiting for me to counter that.

Sighing, I watched as they stood up before walking out of the library. I covered my tracks well didn't I? But now that I know she knows, it still won’t stop me from wanting to talk to him. I stood up and was about walking out when I noticed a paper on the table where they had sat down a minute ago. Walking there, I picked up the paper which had a lovely century gothic like handwriting and there was a poem written on it which read:

Step by step

Inch by inch

Day by day

All the way

Piece by piece

Bits by bits

Little by little, I’ll get there

If I can’t climb a mountain

Then I’ll start from the hill

Mom I miss you, so much, but I know you are always right here to guide me.

Memorial for you mom
