I sat there, rethinking everything that has happened to me. This guy is going to be a pain in the ass. I can feel it. The dumbass didn't know even specific when I'm supposed to meet his brother and like give me proper instructions and stuff like that. Next time I see that guy, he's going to get it. Since the class is finally over, I can see Damien. It's only been a couple of hours, and I've missed him so much. I started the walk towards the daycare, and I've never been so happy in my entire life. As I slowly approached the front door, my phone pinged, indicating that I got a new text message.
~~~
"Noah - Hey, it's me
"Noah - Hey, it's me. I'm back in town and was wondering if I could come over to see Damien, of course, with your supervision".
"Me, - Sorry, Noah, Damien, and I have plans today; I'll let you know when we're free."
"Noah - Okay, let me know when. Bye"
~~~
Noah is the worst person ever. Even if he's Damien's father, I'll never trust him. He winds up only staying for a couple of weeks and getting the money he needs from me and leaving and breaking Damien's heart each time. He doesn't know better, though; it's his Dad. He wants to believe that his Dad is a fantastic person and a human being. In reality, he's the worst of the worst. He's the reason why my biological family dead; he and his stupid cousin are the entire reason my life changed so quickly. He was sent to prison for a year and a half until his Mom and Dad bailed him out; he always had his mommy and daddy taking care of him. Anyway it doesn't matter now, I have my son, and that's all that matters now.
"Mommy !" Damien yelled loud as he came running towards me with a paper in his hands.
"Look what I made today !" He excitedly showed me a drawing of his car he made.
"Wow, baby! It's so good, it's going up on the fridge when we get home. Did you enjoy school today, sweetheart"?.
"Yeah, mommy it was fun, Julie and Max and I played on the swing set today. But it got too high up, and I got scared", He said with a slight frown at the end of his sentence.
"It's alright, baby, next time don't go as high, now let's go. I have a surprise for you". I said, and his eyes instantly brighten up at the word surprise.
We started to walk away from the campus, and Damien held onto my hand as we started down the cement path. We stopped in front of Damien's favorite bakery, which makes his favorite cookies.
"Thanks, mommy. How many cookies can I have? Can I have three please, please, please"?He started to beg and instantly gave in and nodded my head, yes. Out came the owner of the bakery, my good friend Veronica, who's Damiens godmother.
"Aunt Ronnie, Aunt Ronnie, Mommy said I could have three cookies today." He said eagerly while running towards her.
"Really buddy, that awesome, how about a chocolate milkshake with it too." She said while smiling. He eagerly nodded yes and started to watch tv that was playing.
"Rose, how was your first day back," She asked, knowing that I'll tell her everything.
"It was terrific, Ronnie, I think I'm going to be able to finish college soon and start studying for the MCAT. Anyways how was your day today ?" I asked while grabbing an apron and started to work around with her.
"It was fine, but I have this investor coming in to see the place, I'm not sure why but it's happening. Was there anything particularly weird?" She said while raising an eyebrow at me.
"Well, if you must know. I talked to Sabrina, and while we were catching up at lunch, some kid named Kendall was there and was in my class after lunch and started to bother me. He wanted me to meet his brother or something.".
"What did you say to your new mystery, man ?" She eagerly asked.
"Oh, no. I know that look. I'm not getting myself into a relationship or anything, but I still agreed to it, and it won't even be a date or anything. I'm bringing Damien."
"Alright, alright, but if you don't tell me all the details when you go on a date, you are absolutely dead. But to celebrate your first day back, we're going out tonight." She said eagerly.
"Ronnie come on, you know I can't go out with Damien, and I can't even give him to my parents. They don't know that I'm back in town." I said, rolling my eyes at the absurd comment.
"Oh hush up dummy, Josh and Sabrina agreed to babysit him overnight, and worst care scenario that Grams takes care of him." Grams is Ronnie and Josh's grandmother and is the nicest woman ever.
"Fine, but if you leave me with a guy, text me, so I don't freak out and call the cops," I said worryingly. The last time we went out, she left with a guy, and I got so scared that someone kidnapped her. So I called the cops, and there was a whole search going on for her.
We had to stop out conversation because there was the mid-day rush going on currently. Ronnie made the drinks while I took the orders and gave them their baked goods. Ronnie gave the regular's their food, and then a group of men came into the shop, all in suits.
"Ronnie, are those guys them? The one you said that would come." I said, now eyeing every single one of them and in came a familiar face in the crowd, Kendall. Why on Earth would he be with them?
"Yeah, they are, umm can you give me a minute to fix myself while they order." She said, and I gave her the nod. I watched Damien from afar; these guys are giving me a bad vibe.
"Damien, sweetie, come sit over here with me, please," I said, and one of the guys paid a little to close attention to my conversation with Damien.
"Coming..." He said while trotting down to the back of the counter to his seat with his hands full of cookies, and he started to struggle with his milkshake, and Kendall noticed.
I watched the entire conversation between him and Kendall. Damien always gets nervous in front of new people, so he froze up and only nods instead of giving him full words.
"Hey buddy, how about you run up there, and I'll bring your shake there," Kendall said while squatting down to his four-foot self. My poor baby looked terrified at the interaction and quickly ran towards me and tried to get up on the stool. Kendall came and approached me and set the shake on the counter.
"Rose... I didn't think you'd work here". He said while smiling.
"Yeah, I don't work here, I'm just helping out. Anyway, this is a surprise to see you here, in a suit looking and acting like an adult." I said, slightly ranting but composing myself.
"Yeah, my family has a company, and I have to be there whenever there are deals and annoying things like that. I see that your brother isn't very talkative."
"He's not my brother; he's my son. He gets nervous around new people and freaks out. I'm sorry about that. Well, what I get for you guys to eat.", I said, changing my tone and posture. I don't want to mess this up, Ronnie, so I'm trying my best.
"I want a.." and Kendall was cut off a man who was slightly older than Kendall and I and had the same facial features.
"Black coffee for all of us, no sugar." He said rudely while interrupting Kendall.
"Alright, I'll bring that out for you guys. Kendall, was there something that you particularly wanted?" I asked because he looks butthurt on being cut off.
"Can I please a chocolate muffin, if that's alright," He said, looking back at the man who rudely interrupted him.
"Yeah, no problem, if you could all follow me into the conference room," I said, smiling, walking towards the door, and watching the men filing in and taking their places except Kendall. He stood next to me and walked me back to the front, where I started getting their drinks ready.
"So... why are you here with me. Shouldn't you be in there with everyone else?" I question while making the coffee.
"Yeah, well, I know that my brother is going to yell at me, so I would rather be here with you. I actually have no idea what we're doing here; it's mostly my brother and Dad that are into this stuff, I'm just here because of my last name." He explained while sitting on the bar stools.
"Yeah, I get that. My parents were like that, my brother and I, we're dragged along to every one of their business dinner and parties when we were little. My brother hated my Dad's company and wanted nothing to do with it, and well, there was me who doesn't know a single thing about running a company. So I'm guessing that the guy who cut you off is your brother".
"Yeah, that's my older brother Carter. he was the one I wanted you to meet." He said, smiling.
"No way, Kendall. By all means, he might be good-looking and all, but he seems like a jerk," I said, placing all the coffee on a tray.
"Oh come on, Rose, he's not that bad. Well kind of, but it can work out well". He said, smiling.
"Kendall, I can't be selfish. I have a little boy to think of, and I'm not ready for a relationship right now." I said while walking towards the conference room.
As we walked in, Kendall and I saw a disaster. Ronnie was red, she was getting mad and upset, and Kendall's brother looked beyond pissed.
I handed everyone their coffee and left the plate of cookies there, and went back outside to tell Sam one of the waiters I trust a lot to watch over Damien. Sam's in high school and is super trustworthy.
"Okay, what's going on over here," I asked now.
"We own fifty-one percent of this business, and we are buying you guys out," said Carter.
"Umm, that can't be right because on the papers I own fifty-one percent of this place. I'm the silent investor in this bakery, so I need you to explain to me the situation because on every one one of the contract it says my name and Veronicas," I said now getting slightly more irritated at this man.
"Well, that can't be right, the owner is Rose Morin." Said a slightly older man who would seem to be Kendall and Carter's father.
"I am Rose Morin; I'm the silent investor. So tell me what's going on or please leave the premises," I said now fully outraged but keeping a composed tone.
"Ms. Morin you are quite aware that you are the sole owner of Morin Corp right," The older man said.
"Yes, I am quite aware of the circumstances of my mother and father's company, but where is this conversation headed," I asked.
"Over the last couple of months, my son Carter and I have been trying to get in contact with you to talk about the contact that your father and I made in 2008." He said in an over-anxious voice.
"Sir, what would that mean? " I said now, terrified of the answer.
"It means that you and I have to get married," Carter said in a voice that could scare anyone.
