Chapter 2
"How old are you?" Sandy asked.
"Twenty-two." Sake's sparing answer.
"Are you still studying?" Sandy asked again.
"No longer."
"Eh, what are you doing?" Sandy asked.
"Online games."
"Huh?"
Saturday. We just lay in the living room waiting for the heavy rain to subside. There was also no electricity and we had no choice but to stay here indoors.
"By the way, do you know that Anya crushed you?" Sandy suddenly asked which stopped me from reading. Sake turned slightly in my direction so I immediately scolded Sandy who was now laughing out loud.
"Sandy too!" I hissed.
"Before. He crushed you then, I mean." She suppressed her tongue with laughter.
"I didn't know." he answered in a monotone voice. "So, you had a crush on me before?" he added, still looking at my direction.
I was shocked by his question. I didn't know he was going to ask about me. I never imagined that he would talk to me or Sandy about this.
He is so careful when it comes to conversations, ever since.
"Hmmm, yes." Sandy replied as if the answer had been carefully thought out. I looked at his eyes wide open.
Sake glanced at me with his expressionless eyes so I immediately bowed.
I just quietly listened to their conversation here in the kitchen. I was reading a book so I distanced myself but my attention was on the two of them.
It's embarrassing...
"Then she wouldn't be angry if I ate her cake in the refrigerator." Sake replied. After that he also returns the power. "Excuse me." he said goodbye to us.
Sandy and I were left speechless by the culprit. When Sake finally entered his room we both looked at each other and we laughed together.
"He ate the cake..." Sandy asked laughingly.
"Yes." I also laugh at the answer.
I didn't know he had a conscience but he couldn't have eaten the cake last night because he knew it was for him?
And he's just playing with us by asking who is Sake when in fact he knows he's it? Hmmm.
Ah! I reluctantly walked to the school auditorium to attend the proper implementation of our new security system. It's Monday and I've only been with Sake in the same house for three days but my heart seems to explode.
It doesn't seem like I really lost my feelings for him that he just diverted to other people (particularly korean actors and groups) but it still stayed. For a long time, I spoke to myself once with my right hand on my chest.
"Friend? Is it a flag ceremony? Why are you standing there and that's how you feel?"
I ignored Sandy and continued to listen to my heartbeat. Hays.
"Let's go." She said once dragging me into the auditorium.
Sake, why did you come all of a sudden?
"Our school president wants to ensure the safety of the school and every student in this university. I know you already know about the hacking issue, yes, that's true, it's good and our security team caught up with it immediately so the anonymous didn't get in. this hacker. "
The students applauded what a professor said in front of them. Some others whistled but were only scolded.
"Why do you think these unknown people want to target our school?"
I gave Sandy a do-you-have-an-Alzheimer-disease look.
"Ohh, the President's son is right here and... we've already talked about this," he answered his own question and sat down.
I really don't feel like talking right now. I just want to sit and keep my mind blank because I'm sure I'll think of that Sake's face again when-
Ah! Here he goes again!
"Around applause to the new head of the school's security system, Mr. Baron Peterson."
I looked at the man called by our school professor and to my surprise he was young. Almost every woman in our auditorium looked at him. With his height, fair skin, and gentle face who can't be bothered.
"Good day, I'm Baron Peterson."
Even his voice is handsome. Everyone applauded after he introduced himself. The applause is even louder now than before geez.
"How old are you Sir?!" A woman shouted behind us. We can't determine who because there are so many of us inside but her question was supported by many including Sandy.
"Yes Sir! How old are you?" they added.
The guy chuckled and answered in a low voice. "Twenty three."
He's only a year apart from our age but why is he so successful?
It must have come from a wealthy family. More betting.
"My dad is the CEO of Future Technology Inc. and my mom is a psychiatrist..."
I knew it.
The orientation ended with everyone (mostly girls) wide awake and everyone was enlightened by the school's stricter security measures.
"I really love that Peterson," Sandy said with a shudder as we made our way home.
I just laughed at the way she still closed her eyes while the smile reached the sky. She looks like a cheerful monkey.
A few steps from our house I stopped when I noticed three men standing outside the gate.
They talk to Sake who is in bed and wearing only a white t-shirt with a matching expressionless look. I immediately pulled Sandy behind a wall.
"Ouch!" She complained. I shushed her once peeking in Sake's direction. They didn’t seem to notice us.
"Who is that?" she hissed.
"Oh my gosh! Who are those?!" Sandy exclaimed when she saw Sake's interlocutors. “They look like gangsters something like addicts,” she added.
I know these three.
"Isn't Sake a drug dealer, friend?!"
"No. Don't advance there. They are Sake's friends. I told you about them before," I explained to her while still looking at Garu.
"Oh! Really?! They're kind to your story but in real life-" I stared at her badly so she swallowed. "Nevermind hehe."
After a while, they said goodbye to Sake and left. I waited for Sake to enter the house before we finally came out of our hiding place.
What are they doing here? I ask to myself.
"The ice cream we bought melted!" frowned Sandy as we approached the kitchen.
"Don't complain and I bought that for correction," I insisted as I put the ice cream in the refrigerator.
"Even!"
We stopped answering when we heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
"I'm leaving," Sake opened as he adjusted his jacket. "Lock the house, I have a spare key. Don't wait for me to come home," he added before finally leaving the house.
"We're not really going to wait for you." Sandy whispered disgustedly.
"Sandy!" I whispered rebuke to her. "Be careful!" I shouted at Sake even though I wasn't sure if he could still hear me.
It's two thirty in the morning but I still can't sleep and I don't really have any plans to sleep yet. I've been waiting for the main door to open but until now he's still gone. Sake still doesn't come home.
I got up and left the room. I was still slow in moving because Sandy was too sensitive now after the accident earlier with the ice cream.
I gently close the door and then I use my cellphone to light. We turn off all the lights to save electricity and I can't turn it on because Sandy might wake up.
I was about to go downstairs to the living room to wait for Sake when I thought of peeking into his room. Maybe he was already home and I just didn’t notice.
I decided to check his room first before going down stairs.
I slowly walked to our opposite room and carefully opened his door.
I lit up the room with my cellphone and was shocked when I was exposed to two computer monitors still flashing a single keyboard and mouse and a gamer swivel chair like I had seen before.
To this day he still plays.
The bedroom lampshade was on and the surface of the bed was messy. There was a picture frame next to this table that grabbed my attention.
Sake isn't here yet.
I finally entered his room. I had no other intention but to just look at who was in the picture but before I could even get close to it I was stopped.
"What are you doing?" asked a familiar monotone voice.
Dead, blindfolded when speaking to himself.
I just stayed where I was until I felt he was behind me. It's good that my hair is loose and it covers my appearance aish.
"You're trespassing," he said. "Didn't you read what was written on the door? Do not enter. DON'T," he added in a deadly tone.
"S-Sorry it's dark so I didn't notice what was written," I replied with a bow. Damn, my knees are shaking.
"What do you need here?" he asked again.
"I-I just want to know if you're home yet," I whispered back.
He licked his lips and jumped in his bed. "I'm here, you can go now," he grinned.
"All right. G-Good night," I stammered as I ran to the door and then a stupid thing happened.
"F*ck! Are you okay?!"
And that is the last thing I heard before darkness consumed me.
To be continued...
