Finally, the day has come. All the ceremonies of our pack were held near the sacred rock. The big round boulder was twice the height of an average wolf. It was believed to be a fragment of the moon itself owing to its crystally appearance and ivory hue. Its glorious radiance resembled that of the moon at night. Even now, the sacred rock was shimmering like the crescent moon. They kept the decorations minimal using garlands and corollas of purple and pink alpines, whereas the altar was submerged into a velvety carpet of white rose petals. All the flowers used are grown in the vicinity of our village near the lake.
The sun slept behind the horizon, the pinkish-orange shades dimmed into darkness, welcoming our moon goddess. The lawn was gradually filled with all the pack members. A lot of Kane's warriors secured the borders. Only a few were present here. Finally, the priest arrived, and it was only a couple of minutes for the moon goddess to grace us with her presence.
"Luna Serena", a voice brought me out of my stance. It was Kane's beta, Elijah. He was a mysterious wolf. Nerdy glasses, black oily hair parted on left, fair skin with bulky muscles. Reminds me of Marlo Brando from Superman. All that is missing is that goofy grin and humble body language. I wonder what's with the glasses. It's not like wolves need it anyway. He was dressed casually like others from Kane's pack, my pack.
My pack, my new family, my husband, my mate...
All my life I had been with my parents, friends and my pack. But now I'm going to make a new start—a new life. Just thinking about Kane, our pups, growing old with him makes my heart skip a beat. To say I am happy would be an understatement; I am overjoyed. I gave the beta a slight smile though I doubt if he could see it through my veil. He handed me a porcelain bowl of holy water.
"Alpha", he handed on to Kane as well before stepping down the altar. Kane wore a similar suit which he wore when we met at the council. The alpha offered a custom-made tuxedo for him, but the designer said it would take time for his measurements. So he politely rejected, saying the current suit is fine by him. If I'm not wrong, I think it's the same suit from that day. But he looks as impressive as ever. Maybe it's the royal genes...
'Ya, I think so, but he looks handsome', Soul chirped.
Yes he does
"You look gorgeous", he held my hand. I could feel the tingles, the bond was acting up. The divine aura of the sacred place, my true mate and my family all being with me on the happiest day of my life. I feel blessed. I blushed and just looked into his golden eyes through my veil. Soul and I want to get ourselves entrapped in this heartwarming moment.
The priest stepped forward as the moon illuminated brightly. The mild chatters disappeared as silence took its place.
"We all have assembled here tonight in the divine presence of our moon goddess to behold and carouse the pious wedlock of these two children of the moon", with that he started murmuring the biblical script. I took the holy blade and poured my blood into the bowl, streaming it with the holy water. Kane's eyes glowed dangerously, seeing me bleed. He mimicked me and handed it to the priest. After a series of pledges and promises, it was the final vow.
"Do you, Alpha Kane Hounds pledge your devotion and take the she-wolf Serena Rosewood as your soulmate ?" Kane stared right into my eyes. His eyes were flicking from golden to black. Kira was threatening to take control out of excitement.
"I do"
"Do you, Serena Rosewood, pledge your devotion and take Alpha Kane Hounds is your soulmate?" a blush made its way on my face as I looked at Kane. He was anxious, and I could almost see his desperation to get my answer.
"I do", I said, looking into Kane's eyes which gleamed in joy. We exchanged our cups, our blood becoming one under the consent of the moon goddess. The metallic salty taste of his blood surged through my body like a rush, sanctifying me from the inside.
"I now pronounce Alpha Kane Hounds from Golden Hounds Pack and Serena Rosewood from Mountain View pack as husband and wife", he didn't even let the priest conclude his sentence and pulled me towards himself.
My body flushed onto his firm grip, his hands planted on my waist and lips met mine. I heard and saw many males in my pack kissing their mates, exerting dominance, a trait belonging to their primal nature. But experiencing the same, that too with a mighty alpha wolf was entirely different. It was my first kiss, and like an idiot I was, I just welcomed his lips to ravish mine.
Then, slowly, I took pace and started to move my lips, kissing him back but not with the intensity he was doing. He growled lowly or I think it was Kira who wanted to be in control. And I gave up. He completely overpowered me, his grasp on my waist getting stronger. The kiss was not ending anytime soon and I was finding it difficult to breathe. Gradually, our lips parted ways and our eyes met. His face was drenched in sweat and his eyes were blood-shot red, he faltered a step back and held his palm towards his chest. Something's not right.
"Kane, what's wrong? Are you feeling ok?", he moved towards the stone and collapsed.
"Kane..."
And the next few moments, I had no idea what happened, it was all chaos. There were some unknown wolves sieging the entire area. I quickly checked on to see Kane who was coughing blood now.
"Kane...Help somebody...Kane, please", I lightly slapped his face in order to wake him but his eyes were leaving their colour and his skin turned blue and cold. His beta rushed towards me but instead of helping Kane, he clasped my upper arm pulling me away from my mate, my Kane.
"What are you doing Elijah? Leave me. Please help Kane", I begged for help but I got no answer.
The cries of people and hustle-bustle came to an eerie silence. All I could hear was my own helpless wails when a gigantic black wolf lunged from nowhere putting its paw on Kane's chest. I screamed and screamed but everyone was running for their lives. The next moment I saw his paw rising into a stance, the white rose petals turning red and my vision was clouded by my veil and tears. It started dimming, all I could see was dark blotches and then I sank into never-ending darkness.
