Chapter 2

I quickly rushed to the ladies room and stood in front of the mirror. Small strands of hair were loosened from the braid I had on. Oil and sweat formed a thick layer on my face along with the dust. The girl I saw in my reflection looked very exhausted. I don't want my mate to be disgusted with me.

My heartbeat sped up with anxiety. In a panic, I combed and tried to style my hair differently but it would just stick to my scalp making me look like a nerd. Unbraiding my hair, I let them loose. At least, now it looks better.

I got rid of the stickiness by sprinkling some water on my face. Getting my scarf out, I snaked it around my neck. When I saw myself again, at least I didn't look like a homeless person now.

The hallway led to a big room. I could see four bulky men guarding the door. And now they were looking at me with suspicion. I swiftly tip-toed towards them cursing the stilettos I was wearing. I shouldn't have listened Sharron.

"Excuse me miss, How may I help you?", the main guard asked me politely.

"I am Serena Rosewood, from Mountain View pack. Here is my pass", I handed it over to him which he cross-checked and allowed me in.

As soon as I entered the hall, all the eyes were on me. I was glad that the meeting did not start but I was still uncomfortable with so many stares. I searched for Alpha Vincent and saw Ashton waving at me.

"Don't worry. You're not late. Everyone's waiting for a few alphas and elder Bree", Ashton comforted me. This is what I needed right now.

The topology of seats was as usual as any other werewolf meet. The Alphas and Lunas taking the main seat and the rest of the pack members behind them. A few seats were still empty. Seems like more Alphas are yet to come.

Apart from me, there was only the luna from the security check. I couldn't even see the female warrior. I wonder where she went. I noticed a few Alphas staring at me. I quickly averted my eyes as it would be rude to directly look into an Alpha's eye.

"Alpha Vincent", a young man in his twenties approached us. He had piercing green eyes and dirty blonde hair.

"Alpha James?", he greeted the man.

"So is this lovely lady your daughter?", he approached me and kissed the back of my end. For some reason, I disliked the way he touched me.

Putting up a fake smile, I bowed to him.

"No James, but she is no less than a daughter. Meet Serena, she's just accompanying us for this meet as my secretary", as soon as Alpha Vincent said those words, I nearly choked on air. What is he even saying. I looked at Ashton and the others but everyone had a blank face.

"Pretty little assistant you've got here", he smiled at me and I had to reciprocate a fake one, "We'll see each other soon", saying this he took off.

"Serena, you are one lucky girl. James is the alpha of BlackWaters pack. His pack is twice that of ours and also holds good social standing", he said and I just smiled at him.

BlackWaters pack was a good pack. It had no enemies. They had a fertile terrain and abundant harvest every year. I didn't like James. He was handsome but for some reason, my wolf was uncomfortable around him. She didn't like the way his lips lingered on my hand for more than it was needed.

I just hope to find my mate today, Moon Goddess.

There was some commotion outside and suddenly all the alphas stood alerted so did all other warriors including Alpha Vincent and others.

Nobody knew what happened but I saw the Luna from earlier being guarded by some of their men and escorted towards the edge of the room completely opposite to the main door.

"Brad, Miles, take Serena away from here. If it comes to a battle, protect her with your lives", Alpha Vincent said as he moved near the door with the other Alpha. Brad and Miles nodded and took me next to the luna.

Are we being attacked?

Are there any rogues? Vampires?

I couldn't smell any of them except wolves.

Suddenly the door flew open and a big golden wolf with red eyes stood ahead. The alphas growled at him but he paid no attention to them. He was looking at me. Right into my eyes.

'Mate' was the only word that came to my mind. He took a long jump and directly landed in front of me. Naturally, Brad and Miles were defending me but my mate was growling at them baring his teeth. He was about to kill them.

I had to do something. I pushed them aside and moved towards the golden wolf. As soon as I went near him I could hear people shouting and screaming from behind. Some even turned to their wolf forms. I was clueless about what everyone was saying. My whole attention was towards my mate who was ready to rip the whole world to pieces.

He put his nose in the Crook of my neck and licked my face. I moved my fingers through his thick fur. Speckles of orange and golden were visible in his red eyes. We both looked in each other's eyes and then the wolf turned into a human.

Before I could even see his human face, I was embraced into a tight hug. By this time everyone was quiet.

There was complete silence in the whole room.

It was as if nobody was around.

Only the two of us.

I could hear his heart beating.

The warmth of his body was heating me to my core.

My wolf was howling in pleasure and my happiness was on cloud nine. I felt light-headed as if I had forgotten how to breathe.

"Mine" was the only word I could hear from his mouth before I was swept away by darkness.
