Chapter 4

"Now for the last topic of today's conference, as you all know a couple of weeks back Alpha Caleb killed the alpha of Black Mountain pack and took over his territory. Luna of Black Mountain pack, Jasmine is the daughter of the retired beta of RiverRun pack". An old man in his fifties with peppered hair was keenly listening to the announcement while glaring at Caleb. It must be her father.

Caleb was a handsome buff man with dark black hair and a scar near his jaw. He kept an impassive face while the old wolf was growling at him.

"Alpha Caleb wishes to take Luna Jasmine as his mate against her consent. Hence, the RiverRun pack has requested us to rescue the Luna", elder Ho concluded.

The news completely petrified me. There were a few whispers among the wolves but all the alphas were deadpan.

Once an alpha is defeated or killed, his pack and everything that belongs to him is claimed by the conqueror.

Be it his finances, territory or pack.

But a mate was never involved. Usually, the she-wolves were either sent to their older packs or banished along with their pups.

A young wolf from Caleb's pack with shaggy blonde hair stood in retaliation. He had exact same features as his alpha.

'Might be related to the alpha', Soul spoke

His green eyes held annoyance, "This request is irrational. We are wolves. Alpha Caleb had killed that bastard in a duel in front of his entire pack. His pack, his property all belongs to Alpha Caleb."

Jasmine's father growled angrily but his alpha motioned him to stop. " But a she-wolf is not a possession. She might be a member of his pack now, but he cannot mate with her against her consent", the alpha of the RiverRun pack protested.

As an individual, he was so right. Only if we would be humans, things would be so easy.

"I am an alpha. I am a werewolf. Dominance is in my blood, my very nature. We don't have any law that state I cannot claim Jasmine as my mate. If any other wolf here wants to claim her, I'm ready to go all out.

Duel or even war.

BUT. I . WILL. MATE. WITH . HER", Alpha Caleb announced confidently glaring right into eyes of the poor alpha. RiverRun was a very weak pack. The alpha had no children and was old. Also, his pack was very small. By now, he was not attacked because there was nothing with him that could be beneficial for any other pack. Unlike us, they all took various jobs into cities and had a very small territory of their own. But still, they were self-sufficient.

Jasmine's father was shaking and was at any time going to shift. I held Kane's hand tightly but he just smiled at me.

"Calm down Dad, Jasmine won't be happy if I have your blood on my hands", Caleb mocked the old beta only infuriating him further.

"I will kill you...you bastard", her father roared in anger shifted into his wolf. I literally dug my nails into Kane's wrist but he looked unflinched. So were other alphas.

As soon as he was about to jump, a small dart stung his hind leg and he fell unconscious.

I felt sorry for Jasmine. She doesn't deserve this.

"It was laced with low amounts of wolfsbane. He would be fine in a couple of hours", elder Bree spoke nonchalantly while alpha of RiverRun hung his head in shame. More than shame, I could see, helplessness in those exhausted eyes.

"Those in favour of RiverRun pack, please vote", elder Bree asked although I knew it was just a formality and nobody was interested in going to any wars.

Not even a single wolf supported the poor man. All alphas had blank faces void of any emotions. It was really very heart-breaking to see this.

"As clear as it is now, hereafter the council will not involve in any matters regarding mates", elder Bree concluded.
