Chapter 4

EMBER'S POV

I was on my way back to my dorm room, as instructed by Kaid, but I suddenly overheard some girls speaking about Thane and Sin.

I had no idea who Sin was, but my guts told me that it was Him.

The devil himself.

Before I could stop myself, I turned around, rushing back to the locker hall where I left Thane.

Upon getting there, it was filled up with different students, all humming whispers and murmurs.

I was able to make my way to the middle, standing behind Thane, who was glaring daggers at Sin.

I drew in sharp breaths as his eyes met mine.

“ She's so innocent that it makes me want to break her.” A glint appeared in his dark eyes and a faint smirk lurked on his lips.

I felt my palms become all sweaty.

“ Don't mess with my sister, or I will kill you and bury you myself!” Thane locks his fingers around Sin's neck.

But, the fucking villian didn't move or attempt to free himself from my brother's chokehold.

I have never seen Thane this mad before.

He is always the calm and reserved type, but right now, he was nothing less than a devil himself.

The aura emitting from him was screaming danger, and it was nothing like that of Kaid.

For a moment, I couldn't believe that he was my brother.

“ This is who you truly are,” Sin's lips curved into a sadistic smile. “ You're nothing less than Kaid. You both are demons, but it seems you didn't do well to hide yours.”

He was trying to provoke Thane into causing more harm.

I couldn't watch that!

It hasn't been an hour since I resumed college, yet, three prominent personalities in the college fought because of me.

“ Asshole!” Thane raised his fist, ready to punch Sin, but I was fast to stop him.

“ Don't!” I screamed, making him jerk to a stop. “ Don't do it, Thane. It will only ruin your reputation.”

My eyes met with that of Sin, and all I felt was disgust and hatred.

Because of him, my brother changed into a monster.

“ He isn't worth your time.” I shook my head, my eyes still on his.

His expression never changed.

It remained cold, dead, dark and grim.

“ Chill, dude.” He cocked his head. “ Like your little Italian princess said, I'm not worth your time, so save your punch for some other time.”

A scoff escaped my lips immediately.

It took Thane over a minute to be able to let go of Sin's shirt.

“ Stay the fuck away from my sister, if you love your head!”

Once he was down speaking, Thane grabbed my hand, dragging me out of the crowds of students.

I didn't stop Thane. I couldn't.

He felt distant. Like a stranger, and I couldn't stop him or tell him that he was hurting me.

We finally got to the apartment where he stays with Kaid.

“ You're hurting me, Thane.” I said in a low voice, once he wouldn't let go of me.

“ Oh,” his face changed and the dangerous aura around him changed.

He was back. The Thane I always knew, returned.

“ I'm sorry. I was just so angry.” He heaved a sigh, dipping his fingers into his scalp.

“ I understand, but…” I trailed off, while staring at him. “ You were so dangerous back then. To be honest, I was afraid of you.”

“ You don't need to. You know how protective I'm towards you, right?” He smiled and ruffled my hair.

“ Yes.” I replied with a smile.

“ Fuck! I can't believe I missed the whole drama!” A lousy voice shouted from behind, making me jerk in fear.

“ Wow! My baby is a trendsetter. I can't believe that you've turned the school inside out in just an hour of becoming a college student!” Kaia said, rushing to pull me into a hug.

“ You scared the shit out of me, Kaia!” I replied holding my chest.

“ I'm sorry, baby. But how did you do it?” She asked, her brow raised.

“ Do what?”

“ How did you caught Sin's attention?” Kaia asked, and I raised my brow in confusion.

“ Enough Kaia. She just arrived, stop pressuring her with your silly questions.” Axel also joined us. “ Welcome, Ember. The whole Leighton family are now in Ravenswood College.”

“ Thank you, Axel. What about Beckett?” I asked, looking forward to meeting with him also.

“ He had a class to attend. He will see you at the freshman party tomorrow.”

“ Okay.” I smiled.

It wasn't up to a minute later, Kaid walked into the apartment, pushing the door open with a loud thud.

“ Chill, dude. Ember is fine.” Kaia said, but Kaid remained cold and indifferent.

Kaid and Sin looked similar in terms of personality, so it was difficult to tell who was more difficult.

“ I need to kill that bastard!” Kaid ranted, his eyes bloodshot. “ He'd better not mess with Ember.”

“ Mind your words, Kaid. You shouldn't say such in front of Ember. “ Thane said, in his usual calm and composed tone.

It's hard to believe that he's the same person who seemed so dangerous a few minutes ago.

“ I don't bloody care!” Kaid's anger erupted like a volcano. “ And you, Princess… never go close to that devil!”

Kaid's eyes snapped towards me, and I nodded slowly, taking in my lips.

“ Chill dude, we are all here to protect her from him.” Axel said.

“ It's okay, guys. You all are putting pressure on Ember. She just arrived an hour ago. She needs to take a rest.”

I was grateful for Kaia's intervention.

“ Fine. Escort her back to her dorm.” Kaid said, calming down.

“ I will take my leave now. Thank you Thane.” I flashed him a smile before leaving with Kaia.

The walk back to my dorm was quiet, and the tension between myself and Kaia was palpable.

I've never really striked a conversation with her before, so it seemed awkward.

“ We should be comfortable around each other. We are cousins, baby.” Kaia started, easing the tension between us.

“ Thank you for intervening back then. Kaid was really mad and so was Thane.” I sighed sadly. “ I've never seen him this mad and dangerous before.”

“ In order not to worry your brothers and make them fight, stay away from Sin. He is bad news.” Kaia said and I nodded.

“ I guess they are enemies.” I smiled a little. “ I mean my brothers and Sin.”

“ Not only your brother's. The whole Leighton family are enemies with the DarkFires.”

“ Darkfires? Who are those?” I asked.

“ Sin. His family name is Darkfire. They are the gods of the underworld. They are the Russian Mafia who took over Italy and the underworld.”

“ Oh.” I mouthed.

“ But why do you all call him Sin, don't he have a real name?” Curiosity got the better part of me.

“ His real name is Slade Darkfire, but we all call him Sin, because he is one himself.” Kaia chuckled. “ He goes against the law and commits atrocities. He is bad news, Ember.”

Kaia's words seemed like a word of advice or rather a warning.

She was indirectly warning me to stay away from Sin.

It wasn't like I planned on meeting with him or striking any conversation with someone as dangerous as him.

“ Thank you Kaia, I will stay away from him.” I said, reaching my dorm.

“ You're welcome. If you need my help with anything, let me know, Princess. “ She ruffled my hair and I frowned.

“ Why does everyone love ruffling my hair?” I asked, in an annoyed tone. “ I'm not a kid!”

“ You're so cute!” Kaia gushed with a smile on her face.

“ I don't want to see your face anymore!” I walked into my dorm, slamming the door behind me.

Once I got in, Piper rushed towards me, checking me out.

“ Are you okay? Were you hurt?” She asked.

“ No, no. I'm fine Piper, you don't have to worry.” I assured her.

“ We were worried when we heard what happened.”

“ I became the topic of discussion, just an hour after coming into college. I'm sorry.” I sighed.

“ You don't have to apologise. You did nothing wrong. Sin was just trying to get on your brothers' nerves using you.” Savannah said, her eyes focused on her phone.

“ I don't want to put my brothers into trouble, so I will stay as far as I can, away from Sin and every other person related to him.”

“ We should prepare for the fresher's party, it's tomorrow!” Piper suddenly exclaimed, her hands in the air.

“ Why are you so excited for a fresher party?” Savannah rolled her eyes.

“ Whatever! I can't wait to see hot boys!”

“ What? Are you a pervert!” I teased.

“ I don't care, as long as I can feed my eyes with many hot guys, I don't mind.”

I shook my head and lay on my bed, my mind flashing back to Sin.

His dark dead eyes, his tattooed body and his raven black hair which fell on his face.

Everything about him screamed danger, and I wouldn't love to come across him.

Never!

He is bad news.
