Ch.8

Marley

Ellis friends were unbearable. I thought if I skipped school on Friday I'd be able to come up with a way to get enough snacks into my room so I didn't have to be bothered the entire weekend. Especially if Caesar was going to be there, he makes me forgot mytrain of thought when I look at him and he was always staring.

However- an hour as Ellen and Peter left for their weekend long business trip, Max and his twin stumbled through the backdoor. That wasn't so bad, they stayed in Ellis room for the most part but then they must've gone in up in the attic they had converted to Peters 'man cave.' I've never been up there but Ellis says there's a pool table and all types of fun stuff but he mainly just lets her friends hang out up there.

But up there you can hardly hear anything so when West was non-stop ringing their annoying door bell I was forced to leave my sanctuary in a Smokey daze, however still very much annoyed.

My high was crashing down with each ring off the stupid door bell. Who ever has a door bell in this day and age. Just knock.

And as if he could read my thoughts he started to knock- no West banged his large hormonal gorilla hands against the door like a mad man. Suffice to say I was royally pissed by the time I reached the door.

Tearing it open, my anger is momentarily dissipated as a cold wind breaks through on my bare legs. I was only wearing a pair of Miles old compression shorts and one of dads Bob Marley shirts, it was long enough to cover my mid rise and part of my hips.

"What is wrong with you?!" I snap as my anger quickly rises back to the surface as I look at the stupid crooked grin he was sporting.

"Yikes, you're even angry at home? I thought that was because we were stuck in school all day." I roll my eyes at West childish-ness and crossed my arms.

"Will you move? I'm freezing my nuts off out her-" Caesar shoves West through the door, most likely not seeing me past the human wall of teenage boy and his entire body crashes into mine. I grunt and step back a little before I shove him back into Caesar.

"Jesus Christ. I'm getting abused!" He wailed as Ellis and the twins finally came down stairs.

"Please get your fucking friends." I hiss and walk up the stairs to nurse my foot that oaf had stomped in the mist of it all. I wasn't really angry, my foot just hurt like a bitch now, thankfully it started to fade after a quick trip to the roof. Courtesy of neighborhood amateur druggie, Danny.

Ellis wasn't kidding when she said the kid threw ragers, but he dealt with pills and I was only into Mary Jane.

I chuckled to myself as I thought about naming my daughters that. My smile falters as I imagine dad shaking his head but laughing despite my childishness and Miles would over do it and tell him some ridiculous strain he pulled out of thin air to name his kids and dad would full out loud. His laugh was boisterous and he was always smiling , regardless of any hardships we faced.

Not long after Ellen left the first time we lost our small apartment and was forced to stay in a shelter. That lasted a little over a year and when winter cam dad used to gather up any blankets we had and all his coats and we squeeze onto one bed and shiver throughout the night together.

I breath in slowly through my nose and out my mouth to ease the tightness in my chest.

"Your momma named you Inez but I named you and your bother, after the greatest legend there ever was. You name got power babygirl, always remember that."

By night fall and two joints later, I have eaten all my snacks. My stomach was growling from lack of nutrients and the munchies. I groan out loud at the thought of having to face Ellis and her group of friends.

I really just wanted to have this weekend of peace. But that clearly wasn't going to happen. So I suck up my pride and pull on a pair of Miles old track sweatpants before begrudgingly opening my door and leaving my haven.
