Nicholas' POV
"Why in everything holy names' did you bring a filthy person into my fucking manor?" My mom yelled, barely letting me into my own manor.
The planned attack never happened because somehow and one way or the other, the Blue Sky never showed up. We were there for almost two hours but my mind was only on one thing, the lady back at the manor. I wanted to run back home so bad that I called off the hit an hour into the midnight.
"Not like they were ever going to show up. We got scammed." Duncan said and I scoffed. We got back in the car and I took the wheels this time. I drove so fast that the other cars could barely keep up. Driving a Bugatti Chiron gives me all the speed I need on the streets of Milan.
"Answer me, Nicholas!" My mom yelled, drawing me back into reality.
"She is not filthy and this is my manor!" I responded, making straight for the doctor's room. I had to see how our pretty little lady was doing. My mom was behind me, walking and nagging as I made for the doctor's room. I shut her voice out of my head, I'd learnt to do that over the years and it keeps proving useful.
I knocked the door but opened it before I could get an answer, it was like I had to see her to breathe properly. I shut the door behind me before my mom could get close.
"Sir." Dr. Matilda greeted with a slight bow as I walked in.
"How is she?" I asked impatiently. I was losing composure over someone I've never even had a conversation with and it annoyed me.
"It's pretty bad but she's going to make it." She said and I heaved a sigh of relief.
"Why am I sensing a but?" I asked and Matilda sighed again.
"But she might spend quite a while on that bed because the injury to her head seems fatal." Matilda said.
I walked closer to the sleeping beauty and I bent over to take a deep sniff. She smelt like a mix of vanilla and chocolate and I had to fight myself from taking a lick of her.
"She's not your regular person. She is unique." I said.
"She's also not affiliated to the family. " Matilda said and I nodded with a smirk.
"Even makes her more intriguing." I said and I had my seat close to the bed. I took in her facial features in my head countless times that I could draw her off head but everytime I took my eyes off and back at her, there'd be a pretty new detail I'd find. I found myself taking deep breaths so I could master her deep breaths.
I left the room minutes later for Dr. Matilda to examine her properly and to also sort out some issues with the Mafia and the failed attempt.
I was on my way to the consulting room when my mom bumped into me. She was on her way to her room from the kitchen and this was totally unplanned.
I should have just waited more seconds!
"Now, tell me you're taking that thing back to wherever you found her." Sandra said.
"Mom, you really make it hard to do anything you want." I groaned. "Why can't we just want the same thing for once?"
"How do you think it'll sound when it is made public that Nicholas Hills, the Don of the Dark Haven has taken a stranger to his manor?" She asked. "You know why we never take strangers!"
"You know I don't give a single fuck about what people think." I responded with a frown. My mom was about to begin her dramatic scenes and I was seeing the fake tears form already.
"Mom, stop that shit." I chastised. "Don't cry those fake things. Save them for when I finally do something you like."
"And I'm guessing that thing would be throwing Yvonne to dogs?" She asked sarcastically.
"That doesn't sound like a terrible thing." I said with a smirk. Her expression changed almost immediately and I left her presence to avoid any more talks. She said other things but I shut them out as usual.
"Go to bed mom." I urged and went out of her sight.
***
I felt something cold on my neck and I slightly opened my eyes to see the sleeping lady now in front of me with a scalpel on my neck.
"Who the fuck are you?" She asked and I scoffed.
"I take a nap and wake up to you trying to kill me?" I asked.
"Don't dare me and answer my question or I'll litter the floor with your blood." She said and I shrugged.
"Is this the thank you for saving your life?" I asked and she looked confused.
"Where am I and who are you?" She asked and I slowly moved the scalpel from my neck. She pressed it back into my neck and I let her be. I like them stubborn.
"You're at the Hills Manor and I am Nicholas Hills." I responded with a smirk.
"What happened and why am I here?" She asked.
"How about we go question for question?" I asked and before she could reply, I asked my own question. "What is your name and why were you out in the streets tonight?"
Her facial expression was blank. She looked very confused and her heartbeat slightly increased as she racked her brain for the answers. She looked at me with more confusion and her brows furrowed into a frown. It was cute that I could hear the little thumps her heart was making. The room was that silent.
"You can't remember anything, can you?" I asked and she pressed the knife back at my neck. I raised my hand in a mock surrender and smiled. "Woah woah, please don't kill me."
"Answer my question and tell me what I was doing." She said.
"You were dancing on a pole." I said and she looked even more confused and I laughed at the innocent confusion on her face.
"You think this is a fucking joke?" She pressed the scalpel further and drew blood. It hurt a little but I didn't care as long as she could stay that close to me. There was this look of compassion and fear that crossed her face immediately she saw my blood and it made me scoff inside.
"You were being attacked and I waltzed in to save you." I explained. She nodded her head as if to ask for more details and I was delighted to help. "They were about six, tall..."
She seemed to understand what I was saying.
"You're the breathtakingly gorgeous menace to the society that saved me."
I chuckled at her compliment which seemed to have come when she wasn't even listening to herself.
All of a sudden, she fell to the ground and she began screaming loudly. It had me scared. I could feel her pain dig round the room.
That switched up real fast.
