Chapter seven: Laughing with the Rich boy

I groaned in frustration when my cell phone started to ring, it was my first weekend off in weeks and I was planning on sleeping in and maybe catching up on some assignments. Not to be awakened before dawn. “Can’t you like call me when I’m actually awake and not sleeping?” I answered my phone when I notice it was Jaylin who was so rude to wake me up.

“It’s not even 10 o’clock and you are already cranky. Who stole your food?”

“I’m still deciding if food is important right now or ripping your head from your body.” I was lying on my chest, mumbling into my phone.

“I forgot how cranky you are in the mornings.”

“Only if I’m awaken.” I replied rolling onto back gazing up at the naked ceiling. “So, what is so important that you just had to call me?”

“Can’t a friend just call?”

“To checkup?” I can just imagine her rolling her eyes at me.

“I’m not checking up on you, okay maybe I am. But I am just curious to know how things are going that side.”

“So, far so good. I haven’t punched someone in the face. So, it must be a good sign, right?” Jaylin and I talked over the phone for about two hours before she decided to go. I just decided to stay in bed for a few minutes before finally getting up. Mandy was already up and gone when I started my day. She probably had a volley game today and usually, after every game, she joins the after-party. So, I had a whole day to myself, and working on assignments wasn’t going to cut it.

I got dressed and went out skateboarding. Trying to get used to my board made me fall a couple of times, like a toddler who just started walking. It almost looked as if I was doing the walk of shame on my way back to the apartment. My knees, elbows, and even my arse was covered in bruises. So much for staying on the rebellion side. I get the feeling that Jaylin is going to have a laugh at this. As if she is ever going to find out.

“Mandy, you home?” I called as I entered through the front door, noticing it was unlocked. I knew for sure that I locked this door before I left. “In the living room.” She replied. I dumped all my stuff at the door and continued my way through the apartment where I found her lounging on the couch with an ice pack pressed up against her cheek.

“What happened to you?” We asked in unison.

“You first,” I said sitting down next to her. “Giselle knocked the ball so hard my way when she noticed that I was getting all the attention.”

“You.”

“Tried to be a kid again,” I said motioning towards my skateboard. “But it was obviously a fail.”

“I thought you would be at the after-party. You do always brag about them.” I said pushing myself to my feet. “I wasn’t in the mood for Giselle and her mood swings.” She replied dropping her head back against the couch. “I warned you to stay clear from Corbin.” I looked at her weirdly. “What could I have possibly done to put her in a bad mood?”

“By talking to her precious, Corbin.”

“She should grow up and find herself another man to obsess over.”

“Corbin is the guy she wants to obsess over.”

“Poor guy. First, he thinks he dates a model only to find out he dated a psycho.” Mandy let out a laugh.

“I’m going to take a shower and then head out,” I told her kicking off my shoes. “Where are you going?”

“I don’t know. Maybe find myself a club.”

“To do what?”

“What does one do at a club?” It was a rhetorical question. “You can come along if you really want to,” I yelled over my shoulder while making my way towards the bathroom.

Mandy ended up joining me, she probably thought it would be more fun than the empty and lonely apartment. “I haven’t been to a club in ages,” Mandy said looking around the club. “And I definitely don’t remember seeing hunks like these,” Mandy said almost breaking off her neck as she looked at all of them.

“Put that vagina away and let’s go,” I grumbled walking off towards the bar. “Hi, can I get a coke and a Cosmo for her?” I ordered. “Who says I’m a cosmopolitan girl?” Mandy asked. I just raised an eyebrow at her and stared at her bored. “Says the one who always whines and complains about her figure.” She ignored my comment and accepted her drink. She didn’t ask about mine, she never questioned me about my personal life. That’s probably the main reason why I chose to live with her.

Mandy and I made our way to the dancefloor, my body automatically responded to the beat of the song which made me forget where and with who I was. I swayed my hips to the beat of the song, twirl my butt in a circle and threw my head back and enjoyed this moment of good music.

“I need to find a toilet in this place,” I told Mandy once we made our way away from the dancefloor. “Maybe you can use a can.” I just looked at her. “Are you crazy? And how many of those have you had?” I asked watching her order another Cosmo. “This would be my third and no I’m not drunk.”

“Well, enjoy your Cosmo while I search for the bathroom.” I left her side and pushed through the crowd until I found one. Not one of the cleanest toilet’s I have been to. I didn’t waste a minute longer in there, I did what I had to do and left. One would get sick in there.

I dried off my hands at the same time looking at a door that was in the middle of nowhere. There was no one standing there, but I have seen people go in and out of there. Was that like the VIP section of the club? But wouldn’t they have security? Curiosity got the best of me, which made me sneak in. The smell of smoke and sweat hit me square in the face as I made my way down the stairs. Definitely not a VIP section.

More like a betting section. And when I say bet, I mean illegal money betting on fighters. I made a decision to get out of here as the smoke was almost choking me when my gaze landed on Corbin, who was throwing punches inside of the ring and the people around me, was betting on him. What the actual fuck, was going on? My feet halted as I watched him land a solid punch to his opponent’s face who tumbled to the ground and didn’t get back up.

There was the cheer of the crowd, the handling, and swapping of money. I lifted my gaze back up and found Corbin looking at me with not so friendly expression. What did he expect? That I was an innocent little girl who didn’t know about these kinds of things? This was nothing compared to what I’ve been through.

“Camille.” It wasn’t a greeting.

“Well done, or should I say congratulations?”

“What are you doing here?”

“What does it look like?” I heard him sigh probably in frustration. “How did you find this place?” He asked looking from side to side. “I was upstairs in the club when I saw the “secret” door.”

“You know what they say about curiosity?”

“And then you should know what the next question will be.”

“No, surprise me.” He said crossing his arms in front of his chest.

“I’m just wondering what a guy with your reputation is doing in a place like this, fighting in the ring so people would bet on you.”

“A guy with my reputation?”

“Yeah, you don’t need money. The last night I checked.”

“We all have our reasons.” I know that line too well. I’ve been using it since I got out.

“Well, then I should probably leave.” He didn’t nod or say anything he just looked at me. “I’ll go with you.” He said motioning something to someone, who gave him his stuff and a nice slab of cash. He shook the guy's hand and then led me out of this place. “Wait, I need to find Mandy. I left her alone for too long.”

“Mandy?” He asked after a long pause. “You came here with Mandy, your roommate?”

“Just choke on it,” I replied looking for her. I found her where I left her, chatting with a gorgeous looking guy. “Hey.” I greeted placing my hand on her arm. “Where have you been?” She asked looking at me with narrowed eyes. “I’ve been busy,” I said motioning to Corbin. “Corbin?” She asked standing up. “What are you doing with him?”

“Nothing much, are you ready to get out of here?” She looked at the guy and then back at me. “Yeah, let’s go.” She grabbed her stuff and left with us. “Who is the guy?”

“His name is Charlie. I think he kills people for a living.” I smiled at her as she got into the car. “Where’s your fancy ride?” I asked Corbin before I got into the car. “Around the corner.”

“You do love your corners, might want to think to get another car so no one can spot you. Because that car of yours is not really a good way of hiding.” He smiled at me shaking his head. “Just get in the car and go home.”

“Is that an order?” I asked cocking my head to the side. Corbin quirked an eyebrow and closed the space between us, invading my personal space. I should have jumped back but instead, I stayed looking up at him. “For once, just obey one order.” His voice was different. He was different. “I will, but only this time.” He nodded. I turned away and yelped when I felt a slap on my ass.

“You ass.”

“I'll tell you again. It is a nice ass.” He said with a wink walking off.
