Chapter 8 I Can Save Him

In the lobby, only Deanna was left.

She stood there, unsure whether to leave or stay.

Deanna recognized at a glance the man with gold-rimmed spectacles, one of the passengers from the car she hit yesterday.

As for the other man with a noble temperament, he should be inside the room as the scent of blood wafted out of it.

That man was obviously a big figure, not someone she could mess with. She should leave instead. However, as a doctor, she couldn't leave alone that man who was in a life-threatening situation.

Just as she hesitated whether to enter, Xavier's exclamation came from inside, "Mr. Mercer..."

Deanna immediately forgot her hesitation and stepped into the lounge.

Upon entering, she smelled a strong scent of traditional medicines.

A delicately featured man lay on a clean hospital bed, eyes closed, pale-faced, unconscious, with abnormal redness on his cheeks.

She could tell at a glance that he was running a fever, and it must have been high for quite some time.

Xavier and Ava beside him were both frantic, rushing around.

Lance had stayed overnight since coming last night, sleeping in the pharmacy.

He had been fine until Xavier came to fetch him just now and found something wrong: he couldn't wake him up, his breath was weak, and his forehead was burning hot.

Panicked, Xavier hurriedly went out to find Old Hughes.

Ava, witnessing this situation for the first time, tried to remain calm, suppressing her panic, and said in a low voice, "Xavier, Old Hughes isn't here now. Mr. Mercer's condition is urgent. Shall we take him to the hospital first?"

"That's the only option for now."

Xavier didn't dare to delay, pulling out his phone to contact the hospital.

However, as he was about to dial, he caught sight of a figure in red out of the corner of his eye, approaching the bed, reaching out towards Mr. Mercer.

Xavier's eyes instantly sharpened, stepping forward warily, grabbing the person's wrist, and sternly asking, "What are you trying to do?!"

The person was Deanna.

Deanna didn't expect his reaction, momentarily stunned, but calmly raised her gaze to Xavier and replied, "I mean no harm, just wanted to check on him. Perhaps I can help him."

Xavier then remembered her from the lobby earlier.

He let go of her hand, scrutinizing her warily, and questioned, "Who are you? I don't recall seeing you before!"

"I..."

Deanna didn't know how to answer for a moment.

Seeing her hesitance, Xavier grew more suspicious, scrutinizing her up and down.

After a while, he inexplicably felt that this woman seemed somewhat familiar.

A flash of insight struck him, remembering the accident yesterday, and he suddenly realized, "I remember now, you're the one who stopped on the street yesterday, the hit-and-run driver, right?"

Caught off guard, Deanna felt awkward and averted her gaze, "Yes, it's me."

Xavier frowned at her, "Why are you here? Do you know medicine? Are you a new doctor at the pharmacy?"

Ava hurriedly came over to explain, "No, Xavier, this is Miss Deanna Jones, she's a herbs supplier to Hughes Pharmacy, a regular visitor. She knows Old Hughes. She's not suspicious."

After the introduction, she glanced at Deanna and carefully asked, "Miss Jones, when you said you could save Mr. Mercer just now, were you serious? Do you know medicine? I don't recall hearing you mention it before."
